As a user and devote of DOLBY and all of their rich history and products, as well as being a user / engineer in the ATMOS lane since 2016 (in the television world) I wanted to congratulate you on a terrific, well articulated session(s) regarding the use of various ATMOS related technical tools and approaches as you did in this series! Simply put, It was amazing! I just subscribed and will be looking forward to whatever new posts you come up with! I am a partner in a very well equipped ATMOS studio and since beginning my own personal music focused journey, it is great to have people like you willing to share their time and expertise with all of us newbies! Ok this isn’t fair, I had to work all this crap out a year ago 😂 Great video, a lot of what I’m doing too. A tiny tip would be instead of creating the sidechain buss (or any buss) in IO setup you can do the whole thing in one step. Click the send slot and go to the bottom “New Track” you can choose mono aux and type in the name there. It will create the bus and the send from the track in one go. Looking forward to part 2 ❤️

Wow Alex !!! thank you for taking the time to do a video like this.. I've been mixing for over 15 yrs and I have done some mixing for Universal in the latin world. So I am about to make the jump into mixing in Atmos, so thank you for his video. I haven't found a video like this showing you step by step especially in making a template, now that is a BIG step for us who are trying to get into the whole atmos mixing. I am in the process of getting a new location just to get a room made So I can have my set up for Atmos mixing and I am exited to get started. I couldn't find a part 2 to this series, is there a part 2 to this video ?? Gracias una vez mas Alex !

Do you ever run into issues when linking plugins, where you might click the "undo" button or ctrl+click something to a neutral setting, and it decides not to copy that setting across to other plugins? I have that all the time in Cubase. Perhaps ProTools is better with respect to this behaviour. Thanks for the video! Helped me understand the methodology you use. Will continue on the next ones in the series now. :)

Thanks for the information! I am taking notes on your workflow. I use Cubase Pro wit the integrated Dolby Atmos workflow (Still a few work arounds to get things done). Have you tried the Waves Spherix Immersive Compressor and Limiter 7.1.4.? I plan to purchase it once I start getting gigs. I already had HoRNet SAMP, which allows me to compress, EQ and limit at 7.1.2 (Bed).

Is there any pre mixed music for dolby atmos music available already? I would like to have 2 fronts, 1 center, 2 rear, subwoofer and at least 2 height (atmos) speakers. I would like to build an audiophile experience in my 50 m2 barn with speakers all around. But with that amount of speakers you need at least the music to play through all those speakers...

Is it the same workflow with the newer built in Atmos render in PT2024.6 ?
@majeston
@majeston 5 месяцев назад
When it comes to building your 7.1.4 Bed, do the same rules apply to the integrated renderer? Also, would the stem tracks with the linked plugins work the same way for the integrated renderer? I'm having a hard time deciding what to do for my integrated renderer setup vs the external renderer tutorials and lessons I've been watching. Thanks Alex

Great vid. Alex I watched all your vids on this project but the reverb routing was never touched nor did I see any immersive reverbs. Do you use the same Object Bed for reverb and recommend the use of Follow Main Pan on the sends for DA?
@DolbyAtmosMixing
@DolbyAtmosMixing Год назад
Hi Philip, thank you for the support. When working on immersive mixes from mixed stems, I don’t always use Reverb or effects. Remember that all the mixing decisions have already been made by the mix engineer. If I need to enhance the effects, then I will use an immersive reverb or stereo reverbs.

@@DolbyAtmosMixing Perfect logical answer. Your tuts are the best on this subject man. If you weren't mixing already mixed stems, would you use Mike Genewick's Object Bed tip for routing "reverbs" too? or how would you recommend routing say Liquidsonics or other immersive reverbs?

Hey! nice video, you have my sub for all the gems you gave us I just have oone question: When you said there's no "mixbus" to process all the beds and objects together on Atmos, isn't that possible on the dolby assembler by using a limiter and compression on the ADM BWF file?
@DolbyAtmosMixing

It is but that’s done after mixing. There’s no real way to use a mix bus processor while creating the mix. Good point.

Curious I dont quite understand the benefit of an object bed over a regular bed. I can place any audio in any of the subpaths of a regular bed already no? l can put for instance drums in just the Front LR, Side LR or Rear LR of the default bed. I thought the benefit of objects was that i can place them in coordinates in space and not in specific channels like in 5.1 for instance. But maybe im missing something and you can clarify? thanks for the video!

I am using Dolby Atmos Renderer 5.0.0 with ProTools Studio 2023.6, and when I create the Aux mono track named LTC and add the Dolby LTC Generator, Alex is showing how to set the output of this track to "LTC 129 (mono)", but this output is not an option that is available in my ProTools Session/I/O Setup. How exactly does Alex' I/O Matrix look like? Where can I download it or how do I set it up correctly manually? Is it as simple as creating as creating an Output Object #129 in the I/O Settings in Protools, and then the Dolby Atmos Rendere will pick up the LTC automatically from this object?
