FYI, Terrain Patcher has now been updated to v1.1.0. ATM, this will cause save game files to freeze during loading. It is because the new version is not compatible with the current version of Terrain Extender. Make sure to download the old v.1.0.2 used in the video if you run into that problem.

I just discovered the mods for Sub. I didn't know it existed although I have been playing numerous times. I came across that by accident lol Your guide is perfect. Simple, clear and educational. For me: the black box screen never appeared/loaded. When running the game after the "Terrain Patcher" my loading screen froze as someone as in the comments. Did what you said under the comment and didn't use the lastest version. Used the v1.0.2. Everything runs perfectly. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the tutorial. As someone who has been a console gamer for my whole life until recently, I didn't even know where to start and was worried I wasted my money on something I couldn't mod and at first all the files seemed overwhelming but then easy when I realised you could drag and drop and also props for explaining what every mod did for people who didn't want those kind of mods or features. Edit: I am now stuck on an endless loading screen when I create worlds

The latest terrain patcher is glitched I've heard and incompatible with terrain extender. Download an earlier version of terrain patcher and try that

Hey I installed all the files I needed to but in the subnautica settings there are no mods section. And In game when I click f5 nothing pops up. Also I did all the trouble shooting

This was sooo helpful and fixed my problem Might be good to mention to NEVER use the manual download button found next to the vortex download button at the top. It downloaded the legacy version for some of the mods instead and I found I couldn't use them because of that, I was getting so frustrated. but this time I used this video to follow even the buttons you used and got everything working perfectly.. Thank so much for all the time you put in this!

@@leviathankraken a possible video tutorial suggestion? I'm not sure if this works with BepInEx but I can't get QMod to work with what I have.. some mods require BepInEx and SMLHelper and some require QMod and I can't get them to work together, is this even possible? Or do I simply need to choose?

You simply have to choose. Qmods was the old method for legacy version so thats why many mods are slowly being updated

Try removing the terrain patcher mod and see if it works

So if you had qmods installed previously from legacy version be sure to delete that. If you're 100% sure that you installed everything right, then you might wanna consider deleting and redownloading the mods in case the download got corrupted. Delete and reinstall subnautica. And make sure that no strict anti-virus programs are interfering.

Not 100% necessary it's only for tweaking some mods. Make sure that don't have f5 assigned to anything else

If you don't want to delete a mod but don't want it active in the game just create a second folder outside of the subnautica folder for your unused mods.

Well the latest version of bepinex no longer does the pop up window(i need to make a new video) so go into your main bepinex directory and look to see if a plugins folder was generated

This is a very good tutorial and I approve this message. For the love of God delete Norton. Sorry, I've just fixed so many machines with issues, Norton, AVG, and many other programs cause problems. Windows defender is more than sufficient and is built into windows.

Its possible you might have accidentally downloaded the qmods version's, they have to be the ones for bepinex. Are you seeing a mods option in the menu screen?

The latest version of bepinex actually doesnt show the pop up window anymore. Check to see if a plugins folder generated inside the bepinex folder

Well, I followed this exactly and it worked! At least, for the mods you did in the video. The Silence and the Mantis Class sub are both working! :) The only other mod I've tried was Seaglide Upgrades, which I couldn't get working which is what inspired me to watch your video. Still not working, despite having all requirements and everything being in the correct folder. Dunno what I'm doing wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I do save my Steam games to a secondary HDD, while my OS and the Steam install itself is on my main SSD. Dunno if that's messing things up or not? Whatever the reason, I've never had any success modding Subnautica, even using the Vortex manager, until now :)

Ramune the modder has made it so that you need "Ramunes Workbench" to run seaglide upgrades. You will need to build the workbench with your habitat builder and it is what will upgrade the seaglide

It's possible that some modders have placed a block on the pirated version. Which would explain why some mods work and some dont

Hello. I did all the important steps in the video (I installed BepinEx, Nautilus, ECC Library, I didn't install Terrain Patcher) and I don't see the "Mods" option in the menu. I also don't see anything from the mods I installed in the game, and I can't use F5 in the game. My version is cracked because the price of Subnautica is ridiculously high. My saved games still open, and I can create new games, but the mods don't work.

I don't have a Subnautica folder in C:program files x86\steam\steamapps\common\subnautica since I have the game installed on D: So instead I extracted the TobeysBepInEx files to D:steamlibrary\steamapps\common\subnautica but when I hit F5 in-game, nothing happens. I also tried Shift-f5, ctrl-F5, & Fn-F5 and still nothing...? However, I did get the DOS window pop up when launching the game so it seems to have somewhat worked. EDIT: Nevermind. I had a macro set to my F5 key so that it functioned as a different key. Turned that off and now it pops up as expected!

Been a while since I played and wanted to give the new procedure a try. Great video on how to. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of bugs with the new procedure with BepInEx and Nautilus (replacing SML Helper), or modders that claim they updated accordingly to 2.0 are doing something wrong. When starting the game the loader does not detect any errors but when you start to play and start using the mods you start to get errors, if you don't realize it and save your game ... eventually it will crash.

@@leviathankraken Had about 39 but now using 29 Mods ... which includes the main one you used for the base. Came across one modder that has many mods (the 10 mods I won't mention the name) causing all sorts of errors when loading and that does not even start the game. Another issue is the CMD is used to tell us what's being loaded and it is not very accurate as to what causing the errors. After removing the 10 bad mods or from the start it seems to work ok but it appears I'm now getting issues with Terraforming_v144 & TrueBaseColorizer v1.8. They don't seem to cause a problem in the beginning but once you use them over and over eventually something breaks and if you don't see it and save the game I think the save files become corrupt ... *What mods are you using?* Man, I can do without TrueBaseColorizer mod but I really like the Terraforming mod. Made an awesome base with it ...

You should join the subnautica modding Discord and let some of the modders know about the issues you run into. Cause I test them out but unless it's a playthrough I don't test them long term. They are looking for testers anyways to find bugs

So you're on 2.0, steam version. You downloaded all of the necessary core library mods, bepinex, you started the game up once to get bepienx installed? Are you seeing mods in the options tab in the menu?

Try redownloading nautilus. Delete the one you have and reinstall it into your plugins folder. t's possible it didn't download correctly and got corrupted

There is a mod called custom craft on nexus mods but I've never personally used it. Supposedly you can make your own items with it

Delete the terrain patcher mod and replace it with an older version. That should fix it

Ive seen people get mods on ps4 for subnautica and i have a ps4 that has subnautica and i want mods on there also and i was wondering if its possible and if it is if you can make a video on it since i think your able to on the web

Well if you followed all instructions and it still wont work all I can say is to join the subnautica modding discord discord.com/invite/subnautica-modding-324207629784186882 Because the modders can look at logs and know whats wrong

how do you drag the files ive been trying to drag the files but it doesnt work, i had to copy and paste the entire folder in the first thing, but it doesnt work and im so counfused on how to drag the plugins in the main thing

You will need a good zip program and when opening the zip use your mouse to highlight the files and hold down the button to drag them and move the cursor over to the folder youre moving it to. So you will be moving the mods entire folder into the bepinex/plugins folder

The only problem I'm having is that for some reason bepinex won't load with subnautica I try to delete it or reinstalled it but it just won't load can you hope with that

If you're referring to the black pop up window the latest version of bepinex no longer does that. But just look for a mods tab after installing

Sorry, a stupid question. When you spawned the silence leviathan, how did you command? As in, what keys did you use to get the game to understand when to take a command? Because if I just type it won’t work

The latest terrain patcher is broken you'll try taking that off and let me know if it works

hey i placed the all the bepinex files and folders in the subnautica folder and you said to open the game once and there would be a pop up but in my screen there's no pop up. the game starts with no any pop ups, what should i do?

You'll need to double check that your version of subnautica is 2.0 and that you downloaded the latest version of bepinex. If qmods was previously installed then delete it. Reset your pc. Try redownloading bepinex in case the download was corrupted. Also the latest terrain patcher is broken so take that off and replace it with an earlier version.

So I asked the modders and yes they do, but apparently there is a mod to unlock achievements with if you wanna do it that way: www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/1154

I haven't moded this game since 2022 so I still have a Qmods folder. My questions are, can I just transfer current mods into the new plugins folder and can I still download older non lagacy mods but also put them into the new plugins folder, or do I still need all the Qmods infrastructure?

You can't use any legacy mods and you'll have to delete qmods entirely. None of it is backwards compatible

Yes the latest terrain patcher mod is broken try downloading a previous version of it and everything should work

If you installed everything correctly goto the options menu in subnautica and you should see a mods tab
