The realism is, well, like IRL. 😂 Things break, they don't work, they have bugs. Phase, thanks for showing us the method and real-time troubleshooting techniques. 😊
I may seem weird but I really dig the physicality of the new system. Previously, it was way faster but it lead to being able to quickly updating all ships to the best possible components, swapping them quickly and that was it. That side of SC experience was done and forgotten. Now I feel it will give that space engineer vibe and experience which really enhances immersion.
I kinda like the idea personally. But I'm the guy that actually liked needing to gas up your cars in mafia and mafia 2 lol. maybe it would be cool to toggle between new and old ways, were it possible
@@agonydagamerplanning is key, sure means you will have to figure out a game plan before hand. But if you don’t mind wait times then it won’t matter. But a good way to not be the friend that everyone waits on is making sure you’re not the friend that everyone waits on. When you get the chance plan out your sessions so that there is a good amount of time before you log off that you get all your ducks in a row. Then log of for the day, then when you log on, everything should be where you left it and your adventure begins! Hehe.
Good to know. Thanks Phase. For players that are more interested in jumping in going this os going to upset them, for the rest of us that enjoy the process this is awesome.
I actually like this direction SC is going in this area. Have concerns about the personal hangar and intruders, specifically the teleport thing where it basically becomes a quick smash and grab. Hope that idea evolves into something different. But this is cool! Needs some tlc maybe. But i like putting things together so this will be a fun addition. It will probably fall into role play for some people. "Hiring" ship mechanics to fix your upgrades if your having trouble or a friend to help you etc..
Been keeping an Eye on SC for awhile. your videos give me a good impression but more realistic view on how things will be when I do hop in again when it isn't a free fly. Hope to Win the Cutter. it was an epic ship last time i flew it during the Expo
This is nothing new, the VLM is just bugged again, you have been able to manual component changes in many (not all) for a while. The freight elevators and personal hangers just made doing this much easier to do.
I REALLY hope this is just a bug with the ship loadout interface, and not an intended change right now. Apart from how clunky and cumbersome it is at the moment to manually swap components (as you so thoroughly demonstrated here XD), there's still a LOT of ships that still don't even have physicalized components yet. This change would make it impossible for those ships to be upgraded until CIG goes through the backlog and updates them, which will take ages for them to do. Once EVERY ship has physicalized components, and they make the snapping system work a bit better, I wouldn't mind a change like this. But at the moment, the game simply isn't ready for it.
Yeah, I am pretty sure this one is more of a bug than a feature rn. Esp. since size 3+ (non-weapon)components are explicitly not able to be removed/added in this manner.
@@MrDecelles No, they don't have a physical model, nor a place to mount them on the ships, so they can't be brought up to the hangar via the freight elevator.
Yeah, they cant put that manual component swap thing in yet and make it the only way to change your components right now. Bugs notwithstanding, a lot of ships, older ones at least, don't have their components accessible; like the Reclaimer. Others you cant get them out of the slots, like some of the MSR power plants I believe, which do not fit the slot door.
Yeah and what about those that have no physical components yet? Like Caterpillar that should thrive in Cargo patch and looks like it gonna get another kick in the nuts. I would really like to see how CIG will swap Power Plan in this one. Would be really fun.
Some ships do not even fit a component true the doors to get access. This is huge progress but we are going to need a rework on like at least 30 ships asap. Mening by the end of the year all ships should be fixed.
Wait what? Are we sure this has been removed? How are we supposed to engineer stuff like the 300 series with bo conponnent access? Or the C2 that would beed a hole cut in the hull?
Yea, I don't think this is going to be the new way of outfitting our ships. Cuz as it stands right now a lot of the ships and game are not gold standard and those we can't manually replace or remove the components, not to mention a lot of ships don't let you access the missile racks to resupply the missiles manually. Not to mention how are we supposed to apply paints if this is the new method. I believe this is just a bug that the ship loadout manager is not functioning properly.
FWIW, unless components have had changed values, military components are far tougher against actual damage (including distribution), but industrial components are far better at their job. They're also supposed to be more durable in the sense of lasting through tough environments and all. So industrial components should actually give you the most power, the most cooling, etc. Military will be pretty close, and will be faster to do things, but is also going to consume resources at a much higher rate. The class of components you want to avoid is the bizarre Competition class, which sounds like it's designed around racing but is really the least effective at doing anything, and is for some strange reason the most efficient at things like Quantum drives, while fighting industrial ones for being slowest. Some ships that come equipped stock with competition components may be unable to recharge weapons or shields because they're so ineffective. Definitely a bug; the components you were putting in should've been more than sufficient.
Hopefully the VLM is still a thing, or the ability to pay a fee to outfit ships while stored. And pay or wait to have stations load cargo. Not everyone plays with an army of people to help them.
This would be great in the future, but right now its too soon. Several ships need to have been updated to fully support this, right now some ships don't have ready accessible components or the corridors to get to the components aren't large enough to move them through the ships.
With a bit of practice it will be faster. I tried with my prospector but can’t put the new components into the ship. Didn’t succeed in changing mining head neither. I hope Cig will correct this soon
I can see them taking out VLM in the future. But at the moment, not all ships are up to current gold standard. Some ships have components that are inaccessible or components are too big to get into ships. This tutorial should age well down the line.
what happens with ships where you cant physically move the components? or they are not fully physicallised? you have to use a ladder to reach the components for the prowler, the components are bigger then the ladder access. the merc starrunners powerplant is rediculously difficult to remove when salavaging becasue the covers block it being removed you have to clip it through the model.
Common @CIG, I don't have time to spend hours to replace my components, I just want to play a video game when I have 2-3 hours free time. (and imagine in Ships where the components are not so easy to access !!!). It's ok to have more realism for those who want or have 8 hours per day to play on their Computers, but don't forget a video game must have also easy game play ! ... Otherwise thanks for the video showing how crazy is this update
Lol I get what your doing, but yeah this isn't supposed to be the case yet, even when they expect us to manually change components down the line, you will still have to apply paint in the vehicle manager
that is cool, gives you that more hands on aspect of your ship. noice... watch me mess it up lol, something tells me i'm going to need my brown pants on !!
i was able to equip a lancet to a prospector but not the modules. :( working it out. (also large tractorbeams are awesome and can fit in my backpack if i need the extra gun slot) be sure to give feedback guys on spectrum about things you feel would improve the UI experence Def think the naming of STORAGE containers and color to bookmark items you use till we het displace sorage items like inside starciztien showed off Ship mechanic gameplay loop where you have to install parts for other players and are charged based on time I would like to see Levels of complexity in ship mehcanics and installing parts should require a Ship systems calibration etc to install the new part
So so painful to swap now. What do you do when you can't get access to the components on the ships that you can not get on top the ship unless in space like the stock saber. Ehhh
I can't even figure out how to add tractor mod to multi tool. So far it seems you need a backpack put both parts in and drag ans drop but that only works kinda
If possible I would move my ship as near to as possible to the cargo elevator. When I tried to change paint it told me the paint was blocking the elevator so didn’t work
As much as it is a little cringe to watch the swapping of parts, it is something you aren't going to do with great frequency once you get your set up. Looking forward to the hangars.
Lol, this has been around since the release of salvage and not in anyway new. On top of that, the VM not allowing component changes is a bug. This was working in evo before the recent patch. This video is a bit misleading to those that don’t know better.
except there is still an afk timer so if yer called away at all you can still time out and lose all yer shit... not happy... alot of time spent to still be in danger of loss...
Yeah, try changing a jump drive on a Carrack. This crap makes no sense at all. At least have all the ships reworked before changing to this. I expect that there is a service charge and a timeframe for using VLM. You save that money by doing it yourself.
I was told in the PTU that THIS IS TEMPORARY. Believe me, I complained about it several times in game chat an Spectrum. A number of people assured me that the VLM is only temporarily disabled while CIG works out bugs in 3.24.
