Mastering the Mohawk skating techniques will give you a huge advantage on the ice, especially in the offensive zone.
If you struggle with Mohawk skating make sure you are working on your edge work, but it may also be your hip mobility.
If you think it's your hip mobility holding your mohawk skating back check out our Hip Fix Program: www.hockeytraining.com/hip-fi...

Off ice drills are so important. You have to practice the stances off ice with hip, groin, and knee stretches and strengthening exercises. You can even practice getting in and out of the stances with your skates on if you have good blade guards. Practice off ice is critical to not getting injured on the ice. A slip or lost edge on the ice can result in an injury quickly especially for older players lol

Bingo. And it’s easy to do this if your hips open up easily, I feel most kids get a “put your legs in this position” ... it’s easier said than done. Show me HOW. That will definitely be off ice, some sort of yoga/ Pilates/ stretching.

Another fun way to stop fast (and skate in general) is what’s called a ‘Mohawk’ in hockey. Basically, open up the hips so that both inside edges are being used, body facing towards the centre of the turn (a good way to learn is to try to build speed by pushing with the leading and trailing feet) I find it nicer than a sharp turn because your body will naturally want to fall towards your hands rather than towards the outside edge, so it feels much less sketchy to turn tight. It’s a really fun technique to skate in general with too!

I’m not sure why, but I walk with my toes pointed out and this was a way of turning that I would do since I was really little, I was never taught and it made it really easy. My squirt coach would always scream at me for it but my bantam coaches liked that I could do it.

For me it's middle to toe. At least on the inside. Maybe more middle of the blade for the outside edge work that he demonstrates at the end. I found that getting too much toe on the push makes me lose my balance. Also, it's not a necessarily hard push. This is a move more geared towards mobility versus speed or power.

OK, first of all, this is a figure skating move that has been used for decades, Crosby didn't build that. Second of all, players in check leagues need to be careful when they use this. You are opening yourself up for a big hit in the wrong situation. And make sure you get it down before you start screwing with it in a game. Also, there is a bit of a slowdown when you go into it. Just things to be aware of. All that said, it's a useful technique just like any other improvement in your skating ability. And this demonstration is definitely amazing.

Well, guys, to be honest, if you want to have such hips mobility, quit watching videos and put in some years in ballet classes of hips mobility. Yeah, it takes years.

Jonathan Dahlen is master at this. Crosby is very slow at this technique. Precise and effective but slow. Dahlen creates incredible speed and is untouchable while skating like this.

Ahhh....yeah.... I mean that's a great video but the skill level needed to even attempt that drill is pretty far advanced.

Obviously the cry baby is a better player, but watch Skinner, he goes heel to heel on every shift.

@@redlights1585 calling Crosby a crybaby in 2019? Someone's a little out of the loop, you should know since he spanks your dogshit Sabres every season

@@him8012 Yeah, Crosby didn't invent this, nor does he own it fanboy.

@@TheWitchOvAgnesi I had no idea Crosby didn't have proprietary ownership over a hockey move. Thank you for the info. I called Crosby a better player than Skinner so that makes me a fanboy? Stop eating paint chips dipshit

not all bodies are capable of knee and hip displacement such as this. Long term effects ought to be studied. it’s an unnatural configuration for our form to place under such stress. But sadly, no it won’t happen, cuz HOCKEY parents meal ticket mentality won’t let that happen.

I don't think calling it Mohawk is very sensitive to the natives. Call it something else. Call it the Sydney.
