Hi, Julie. They are very nice. They will be beautiful in your garden. The splash of colour in the garden will be eye catching. Very nice I love them. Have a great day. Take Care

Hi Rose, thanks very much! They're definitely a pop of color in my green, white, and purple garden. I will bring them in for hurricanes (I'm in Miami), but it's nice that they're small enough to easily remove. Thanks for watching!

Yes, recently I have been creating lightweight polystyrene bears covered in two layers of alkaline resistant mesh and thinset. Now you have inspired me to create shapes on a stick. 💕 I have been able to purchase the same rods as you demonstrated. 😃

Hi Julie, I loved how you hummed music while waiting for 10 minutes,very cute.Do you think we should put some glue into the hole where the aluminium pole is going to go first?Or is it enough for the wee bit of thin set going in.Love the vids,kind regards Janine,Western Australia
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 7 месяцев назад
Hi Janine! LOL, I'm always singing!😂 The rod in the hole is a tight fit. A little bit of the cement adhesive did make it's way into the hole which helps secure it in place. And of course once I got the rod in the hole I applied more cement adhesive around the area where the rod meets the cement board. Hope that helps! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥

Hi there! You want to use a substrate that can withstand the great outdoors! Don't use foam core board, but instead cement board (lots of options to choose from). Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!⚡

Question - I don't see latex additive at Home Depot that is specific to grout, but I wonder if a latex additive for PAINT - like Floetrol - would work? Great video - thank you for making everything so clear.

Hi there! Thank you for your kind words. It's great to hear you enjoyed the video.😊 Paint additive won't work. You definitely want an additive specifically for grout and cement-based adhesives. I found one online and added to the video description. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Thanks for this video. Wondering why you do all sides at the same time? Wouldn't it be easier to do one side and then the other and edges?
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 года назад
Hi Patricia! Thanks for watching. I usually mosaic the edges first, and then I move on to tiling the front (and then the back if necessary as was the case with this mosaic). Unless the edges are part of the overall mosaic design when looking at it from the front, I like to 'cover' the edges with the mosaic on the front. So in other words, when you're looking at the mosaic from the front, all you see is the mosaic.....not the tile on the edges. Hope that makes sense.😊 Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!

@@JulieWeilbacher I wasn't clear in my question. I meant do you grout all sides at the same time 🙂. Couldn't figure out how you would stand it up or lay it down to dry completely.

I'm enjoying your vids a lot. Could I just drop a hint that 'Wedi' board in most countries is sold by different names! Ie ... in Australia its Marmox. 'Thinset' is really only known by that name in USA (?Canada). Most other places in the world its named Cement Based Adhesive!! As your videos go worldwide I suggest to avoid confusion you could mention these things. I teach Mosaics here in Oz (Albury, NSW) and know people listen to you!🤣🤣

Hi Julie just love ur show! You explain everything in detail so well and you seem down to earth. Question: for using tiny mirrors outdoors do I need to apply edge sealer and a neutral curing adhesive on backs of mirrors to prevent blackish? That preventive spray sealer is $25 a btl! Or just the neutral curing adhesive be enuf? I will be using lexel for adhesive then grouting. Making a mosaic manniquin. Ty so much!
@JulieWeilbacher

Hi Tina! Thanks for your kind words, and great to hear you're enjoying my videos. I would do everything possible to prep mirror for outdoors. The outdoor elements can be harsh, especially on mirror. And you're making a mannequin which is a big project.I would take the extra time and steps to prep the tesserae. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
@tinamaruco4920
@tinamaruco4920 2 года назад
Nah I'm only using a long line of mirrors not for the whole mannequin. It's a half mannequin.. I think I'll forgo the mirrors not worth the $25 for the spray on back for just 1 long line. Ty!

Hello, Ms. Julie, I am having the worst time getting the fiberglas filament to stick to the boards. I can't even move forward to stick the metal rod in before it starts coming apart. Does the filament actually come apart easily or do I need to buy more fiberglas tape? I live in the high desert and it is very dry, even in the winter months. Any suggestions. Thanks for reading this.
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 8 месяцев назад
Hi there! If you're using the same exact substrates + materials that I used in the video then a couple things come to mind. (1) Make sure your fiberglass tape is new (adhesive can go bad on old tape), and (2) make sure it's wide enough to come down at least 1/2" on both sides of the wedi board. If you're still having a problem then I suggest adhering your fiberglass mesh to the substrate and adding a weighted object on top for 24-48 hours or so to see if the adhesive will stick. If it sticks, then move forward with the next steps. Hang in there. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!⭐

I must have missed something. How do you keep the rod in the foam? I saw you put a bit of thinset in and around the hole, but that isn't enough to hold that rod in place over time outside.

Hi Julie, I am wondering your opinion on sealing an outside mosaic.. I am installing one in a hot dry and sometimes rainy garden. Would you recommend sealing it? Exposed there is both gray grout and even some white thinset. I purchased both stonetech impregnator pro sealer and 511 impregnator sealer. They both seem to be similar products. Also, do you seal your mosaic stepping stones?
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 года назад
Hi Kim! I seal all mosaic art for outdoors. ALL. I'll apply at least 2 or 3 coats. It depends on how much sealer is absorbed. And if I lived in a cold climate I would consider bringing it in for winter (if possible)....or in my case for tropical storms or hurricanes. I have both of the sealers you mentioned and I've been pleased with them. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!

Great video! What kind of latex additive?
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 года назад
Hi Jules! Thanks so much! Great to hear you enjoyed the video. Here's a good latex additive: amzn.to/3Cq9wUQ. Remember, if you use a fortified mortar-thinset and grout, you don't need the latex additive. I would strongly encourage you to seal your garden stakes once the grout has fully cured. Here's a video on how to do that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5JqZU5ucM_k.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

I want to do a garden piece about 10” square.. Is a single rod adequate for the extra weight of a larger piece ?
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 года назад
Hi Milly! If you go with a single rod, just make sure it's pretty thick and does not bend. To be sure, I would probably do 2 rods as you suggested. But see what you can find. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here! 🔥

Hi Julie Would the color of my glass show better on white thin set...especially because some of my glass is transparent? Then will it be ok to use a gray grout?
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 года назад
Hi Phyllis! Yes, white thinset-mortar is the way to go when working with transparent (or clear) glass for outdoors. Make sure you cover the entire surface of the back of your glass with thinset to avoid grout bleed. You don't want the gray grout (use fortified!) to show through. Have fun! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
