If anybody out there ever wonders why a taxidermist cost is so high, they need to watch one of this guy's videos and imagine how many hours it takes to do this and how many hours it took him to get good enough to do it this quick... I don't know how much he charges, but it probably isn't enough... lol
Finish work (just like carpentry and auto body) is never speed work. It takes years of training and practice to become a skilled craftsman. Attention to the smallest details and realism is everything in taxidermy. People who go fast, cut corners and make things look like shit don't make it very long as taxidermist. You have to be a perfectionist. No, the really good taxidermy guys do not charge nearly enough for their hours and artistry.
great video could you do a video on the coyote heads mckenzie is putting on their coyotes now i am doing this as a hobby and no professional training thank you for taking time to do these videos
What do you do with it when you can’t finish sewing in one day…put a plastic bag over it? Won’t edges dry out over night? Or do you rehydrate if need so needle can penetrate? I put my coon in plastic in the fridge
Hey thanks for watching! Yes. If you need to stop and work on the sewing the next day you can put a plastic bag over it and if it starts to get dry I will rehydrate the hide with a spray bottle mix of skin prep nbu and water.
Hey thanks for watching! I plan on having a finishing video on the channel real soon so be on the look out for it. Make sure you hit the notification button to make sure you get notified when new content is available.
The ear liners that you used in the video. Are this the Jonas liners from McKenzie? Looks like they only sell mediums. Are coyote ears all pretty much the same size ? Is your hide prep process for coyotes pretty much the same as whitetail? Thanks for the videos!
Hey thanks for watching! I can’t remember for sure if the ear liners were made by Jonas. They did come from McKenzie. The size of the ear liners is going to depend on the size of the coyote. If it is a larger size coyote I will order a large and then trim the ear liner to fit. The hide prep process is the same as the whitetail but you will have to add a degreaser to the pickle step to help remove the grease from the skin.
Hey thanks for watching! If you’re interested in learning taxidermy hit the bell notification button and it will notify you when I have new content on the channel.
Hey thanks for watching! It is wet tanned so as it dries the skin will stiffen up. Also the use of hide paste and latex caulk will adhere the skin to the form making it very solid.
Hey thanks for watching! I use hide paste and caulk. I will put caulking into the legs and around the face and in the tail and work hide paste around the body. You just have to make sure you don’t squeeze it out of the seems where you have done any sewing.
Hey thanks for watching! I plan doing another coyote video just focusing on the head and face so I can cover doing the eyes and tucking the lips, nose and setting the ears. Make sure you hit the notification button so you will know when I have new content available on the channel.
This wasn’t much of a how to, you didn’t show us how to set the mouth, the tail, the hide, what sewing needle to use, how to set the lips, you didn’t really tell us how to do anything, you just did it and half the time you were in front of the camera so we couldn’t see. Basically learned nothing from this video
Hey thanks for watching! I will have more in depth videos coming in the near future with a lot more detail. Make sure you hit the notification button so you will be notified when I have new content available.
