This is so helpful, I just ordered some foam panels to improve my recording setup and I live in a rental place, so I absolutely can't make any holes in the walls. Thank you!!

This setup has worked spectacular for me: (1) 24"x24" Corrugated Plastic Sheet + Gorilla Glue Spray Adhesive + (4) 12"x12" Acoustic Foam Panels - Require 1 small nail for vertical walls, 3+ nails per panel for ceilings. I have found this is the best option for me, when utilizing nails and panels that can be reused with no damage.

I've found that the strips lose integrity after about 6 weeks when attached directly to the foam panels...the second option of attaching the foam to a backing panel would probably be best practice

Thank you so much for this!! Tacky glue is my preferred type of glue for crafting and whatnot so I’m glad I have that and the foam.. now I just need some cardstock or foam core board to glue them to!
@bangojetty
@bangojetty 11 месяцев назад
the commands strips are a little difficult to stay put, mainly because they don't adhere to the foam very well(air pockets and whatnot). Perhaps if you glue a sheet of paper or something to the foam tile, you can then use the command strips more effectively.
@Downsouthie
@Downsouthie 4 года назад
This works amazingly well. I cut my foam about 1-1/2 inches smaller (3.75 CM) and mount so that the boards and the command strips never show. With the command strips, the big Velcro ones aren’t necessary- just use the strips on the board and the wall. I’ve even put up corner block bass traps-use two small boards and one strip on each board. Windows are a PITA, so do some heavy blackout curtains (IKEA/ Amazon, etc). When using spray glue, get the 3m SUPER 90. The regular stuff doesn’t do quite as well in my experience.

Pretty useful for any need for acoustic panels. I need them because I'm currently living in a freshly-made room in a basement, with my gran in a room over. I'll be moving out soon enough, but for now (and probably also when I move into the new place) I need some way to keep the noise down when I'm playing games or mixing tracks. Having them not damage the walls is also important, both so that I can bring them undamaged to the new place but also because the new place is just a rental.

Nice with the webcam... will try the velcro. Hopefully it sticks better than the joby suction cup I'm using with my C922 - and some clear adhesive on the wall to make it more even...

Best way I found to work with foam panels and no damage to walls is to use foam core with 3M spray adhesive on back of the foam panel and the front of foam core. Wait until both are tacky then apply pressure to get them to stick. When dry apply 4-8 3m command power strips to the back of the foam core , then apply to the walls. Mine have been hanging like this for over a year and no issue with them falling off.

I used "damage free" command strips to mount acoustic foam before and it definitely isn't damage free. I was moving and went to remove the foam after it had been mounted with the command strips for about a year and it took the paint and paper backing of the drywall off. Had to spackle, sand and repaint the whole room.

I'm curious how the sound absorbption would be affected if I attached the foam panels to the wall using thin foam weatherstripping used for doors along the edges instead of attaching the foam directly to the wall. Would that make it better, worse, or no difference?

This works for acoustic foam, but what if you have panels from Vicoustics or GIK Acoustics that have wooden front covers etc. (and thus are heavier)?
@FuzzyFace73
@FuzzyFace73 3 года назад
I used a compromise. I glued my panels to the foam core - and then used drywall screws to attach the boards to the walls. Yes, I have screw holes, but the foam stays up, and the screw holes will be easy to spackle when I take them down. And even better, by not having the glue on the foam reach the ends of the foam core, I was able to bend the foam up and put the screws behind the foam where they are hidden.

Apologies if it's further down in the comments, I didn't see it. If you don't mind, how many of those hangers did you use on each panel after you applied the backing boards? I would think two on the middle sides would suffice.

The command strips only adhere to NEW CLEAN walls well - else they will not hold. If a used house or apartment (flat for those English) and it has not been painted then there is film on the walls and you have to clean the wall before placing them onto the wall - else they will fall down.

Tried the command strips quite some time ago, worked great for some time but after a while they came off 1 by one. thing i noticed is based on the fabric you use of soundproofing it often doesn't stay on the panels. I tried super gluing the strips to the panels and used the normal strip adhesive on the wall (obviously) and its stayed up for almost a year! only negatives to this are how time consuming it is and how easy it is to misplace the panels to prevent sloping or gaps (also recommend using gloves when using glue on the strips)

You forgot the part where you pull them off again to see if it actually is damage free.. I've had acoustic foam glued with this kind of velcro tape directly on the walls, but when I had to take them off it took the paint right off. Still looking for a better solution since with these things taking up so much space you might want to move them at some point..

Now I’m not sure if it’s the foam I ordered or not, but I used just this method and it only sometimes decides to hold the panels. A lot of the time the command strips stick to the wall great but not to the foam. I did everything according to the directions and they just refuse to all stay put. The first 3 I put up worked great, but the rest have varying degrees of success and I basically wasted like 40 command strips. I’m glad it works for some people, but I have decided to go back to pins in the wall because adhesive just isn’t reliable enough for me
