This is actually helpful for someone going from a physical sim to an eSIM. I wasn’t too sure how this would work. Thank you for posting this for people with older iPhones.

Agreed! I unfortunately had to leave my 15 PM home to go to work as I had to wait 2 hours over my time for work, and I just got my screen and lens protector on, then started set up, the eSIM swap was quick! I thought I would have to be on the phone forever but it just asked if I wanted to swap sims and now it’s updating and my lovely 12 PM will hopefully be fixed (camera glass broke, needs replacement camera too I assume) and sold to someone else. This phone has done me well, I have always hated the connectivity compared to my Note 9 though. Here’s to the 15 being better!

Luckily I figured it out and the new iPhone 15 pro max guided me through. The way you explained it was very helpful and from step by step was excellent. You’re the best tech video out there. Very informative video. I was a little apprehensive about transferring an eSIM as I heard last year it was a huge mess getting it set up. I’m considering getting an iPhone 15 and now I’m more convinced it’ll be a smooth transition from my iPhone XR. Definitely have to give it to Apple moving from one iPhone to another is very simple and effective.

I just upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro from iPhone 12. Transfer went very smoothly after upgrading to iOS 17.0.2. No data loss in the transfer...even kept custom ringtone. I used the iCloud method, as with all of my previous iPhones. Only minor downside is to re-sign into some of my apps.

Great content. Just a heads up that if you want to return the 15 Pro and go back to an earlier phone, you can't go back if it is running 17.0.1 since the 15 Pro is on 17.0.2. Restoring won't work until they are both on the same software number 🤬

I backed up on my Mac and then plugged in my new one and selected the date and time. The eSim had a little snag but it works now.

Oh man, I was looking for this video yesterday. I thought transfering data directly from one phone to another was faster than via iCloud. Now I know better. Unfortunately, I started the transfer before watching this video. At the beginning I got a message that my phone number could not be transferred. I'm hoping I can do it smoothly right after transfering everything. I'm moving from iPhone 14 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max with an eSim. I wanted to ask you, if you're upgrading both your iPhone and Apple Watch, is there a preferred sequence? Does it make a difference if you move to the new watch first or to the new phone first?

The side by side transfer of everything from my iPhone 8 Plus to the new phone went without a problem. It took a 20 minute phone call to my provider to activate the eSim on the new phone. The phones could not connect to transfer my number. Because the 8 has a physical sim? Good video. Regarding photos. I copy all photos to my computer. Then back up on an external hard drive.

Transfer was pretty smooth with no issues, Apple Watch was were problems started. Had to wipe watch clean and add it as new watch. Thought there would be an easier way ?

Wouldn’t a transfer from a backup on the Mac be better on the new phone? For reference I’m currently using the iPhone 11 and when I upgraded to this phone, while using the direct transfer data it didn’t transfer everything so I had to factory reset and upload the backup from my Mac. Not sure if that’s still the same or not. I’ve got a 15 pro on order so I was wondering which would be the best method

Here's a great tip, don't expect your backup to simply reinstall the line app - any backup refuses to install line. Make sure you link the line app within the app so after you download it you can use that linked account to get your account back. Not sure if this is a problem with line or a problem within the cloud backup. Caused me no end of stress as i had already wiped my old phone after backup :(

I updated my new iphone 15 pro to iOS 17.0.2 and now beta versions are not available anymore and the option between listen for "Hey Siri or just Siri" is also gona and you always have to say "Hey Siri"....is this normal? I love your videos btw, thank you. Very useful!

I tried iCloud transfer last time based on your advice when I changed to iPhone 14 Pro. Two hrs later and it was still syncing. Not sure it’ if it was working. Eventually cancelled and reset the new phone and used direct transfer. It was done in about half hr or 45mins.

Isn't it still the case that the esim transfer may require doing it through the carrier app and not work using that method?

Although the transferring was the easy part but when you have several credit cards, several bank accounts and so one, the authentication can take up few hours to re-authenticate. That was probably the most painful part but it's good that we had to for security sake.

Just love watching your very informative videos I’ve learned lots that I just wouldn’t have known …. ONE QUESTION…. When transferring from old phone to new phone why in the past have I kit been able to transfer my Bluetooth setting and pairings ?? With so much nowadays working on Bluetooth it’s a complete pain to have to set up a pairing again…. Is there a way to ensure Bluetooth setting transfer ???

I went from a 14 Pro to the 15 Pro (eSIM to eSIM). I’m keeping the 14. When I went to erase it, the option to keep or delete the eSIM came up. I kept it the eSIM. Was that the correct option?
