For those saying you moved the folder but then it was still in the :C drive but the location tab dissapeared, restart your computer and it will move correctly.
I like how this guy provided such a basic and straight-forward solution to this problem. Literally people anywhere were telling me to touch regedit and change registry keys which is a bit scarier because of unpredictable results. Been to a lot of tech support forums including Microsoft Community and everyone's providing complex procedures. This guy managed to solve the problem easily.
@@mpexxx solution is to buy at least 2 tb ssd. Bc Windows is a dogsh*t soulless piece of sh*t that doesn't even let you own your own computer. Better use Linux

@@pondererer5066 Yeah it works fine, my only suggestion is keep some apps in the original file. Like Discord or whatnot. If you find apps aren't working after moving everything to an External HD, then move files back that are associated with the app that's messing up. An example I can show is the following. I have Discord still in the original Roaming file & after moving everything, a plugin got moved out of the roaming file & it messed up my discord. Moving that one specific folder back to the original roaming file fixed the error. It was a very small file so it wasn't even something that needed to be moved in the first place. May require some trial & error with your stuff. Will also cause you to get logged out of a lot of places too.
You are a legend. Simple and straight to the point. (I actually did this because of my yearly 2 week Minecraft phase and I don't want my C Drive to get cluttered with mods. lol)
Please delete this video, as i can see from the comments many people including myself have gotten issues from this, clearly not a viable option to move the appdata file around. I've found that my my task manager doesnt display start up programs no more as well as not having a working run app with all my appdata files having to be ignored by my system
Unfortunately this is the only way to move app data. I made very clear in the video you're only supposed to move that one folder out of the three. if you move more than one folder you will break programs
@@TutorialClan Hi, I moved the roaming folder using your way. I ran %appdata% to verify if windows now knows where appdata folder is (step at 3:50) the address bar still shows C: as the location. So when I try to repeat the process again as you said, I noticed that the location tab is no longer present in the properties of the roaming folder on C:. HELP.
i did as instructed but it remained in disk C: (i wanted to move it to disk D: ) and when i go right click ,properties there are only these options: General, Sharing, Security, Previous Versions and Customize and i do not have Location option idk why, not just on that but every folder. How do i fix that?
Thank you for the video! Every little bit helps, and with Unity asset downloads, my Roaming can get out of control. But my Local is no joke either with all the modeling and animation software I use. It's super freaking frustrating that we can't control where that stuff goes!

No, it's not. Local file is the main settings folder for many of your programs, like your firefox profile or many many many windows applications. It's a fixed folder, like "system32", and the programs wouldn't know anymore, where your data is, if you moved that. With Roaming it's a different story, as quite no program is saving really into "Roaming", but into "%appdata%". That's a variable which can be changed. When your local folder is quite full, there can be two reasons: 1. You have installed many programs. Many programs means many setting files. Be glad that they are orderly filed in that folder, and are not just in your /home folder like in Linux (where you easily can have hundred folders with a . at the beginning in that main "My files" folder). 2. Your temp folder at /local/temp is quite full. As it's a TEMP folder, it's save to just empty the folder all the while. Just go into the folder, type STRG+A and then delete all marked files. Whose files, that cannot be deleted, just skip. They are used at the moment. When a program would need a temp-file, it would just recreate it. Most times TEMP is full because - you downloaded a file like a .pdf and opened it instead of saving it on your computer first and then open it from there - you opened a RAR file. WinRAR has the stupid method of first decompressioning the data in your temp folder, and when you just view it, but NOT decompress it - WinRAR will just left the decompressed files in your TEMP folder. That can get big easily, as you might expect. Only way against it: click the .rar-file with the right mouse button and choose "decompress here". Then WinRAR decompresses the file in the folder the rar is in. This is even a quicker way to decompress your data, as it don't need to be copied from TEMP to your folder after the decompressing.
After I applied the corresponding drive letter in roaming properties, I did notice that windows still reads the appdata file from the C drive. To solve this, I simply restarted my computer. Afterwards that's when you can probably delete the appdata file in the C drive.

Hey there! So, the likelihood of anyone responding to this is very low and I'm well aware of this, but if someone is out here willing to help I'd love to accept it. I've been struggling due to a very, very small C: drive, that can barely hold enough space to run the OS on the device, I looked into my Roaming folder, saw it was the problem, and I'm not seeing the Location tab whatsoever. I'm clearly on the latest version of Windows 10, I see nothing that should be preventing me to move it, and while I can fuck with the registry and whatnot, I'd prefer not to if at all possible- Any idea as to why this is happening and how to fix it?

Several of my apps have file paths for things like User Library, Assets,, etc. After moving the roaming data to another drive, will I need to change the file paths in each application?

(my D drive is my bigger one that I wanna use) Should I delete roaming or something in the C drive, so it HAS to default to D?

My local disk has 76 GB free and my Minecraft crashes saying not enough storage I did this and it says the same thing still I moved it to my drive that has 1TB but still crashes saying not enough storage

I wanted to move Appdata so I can get back some storage but it wasn't that easy with any files. I had to set up my pc completely new on a new drive. Now it seems to be working but I have also WIN 10 Pro instead of Home. Not really sure if that makes a difference. But thanks for the answer :)
Thank you. Same issue, I found out about 50G under my appdata roaming. Size of apple computer folder is like 45G, you can just delete it, it's backup data when you sync the phone. Then the rest of appdata roaming is literally nothing.
Minecraft for example saves it's data into roaming. Like all the worlds, mods, schematics, different versions you downloaded etc. That can get really huge. But that's also the reason, notch used %appdata% and NOT Local for that: So you can move all your minecraft data savely to another partition ;)
So by doing this, anything i download from now will storage the data of the app on the driver where i moved roaming right? (btw now i can't find the folder on the driver i moved it to) (Sorry if u don't understand, my english can be bad sometimes lol)

I had this Location option, set it to D: already, away from my windows. But now, location option is missing as well as my PC still storing GB of Data on C:
I moved the roaming folder directly to my D drive expecting the actual folder to be moved, but instead it moved all of the items inside of roaming to my D drive and the roaming folder is still on my C drive. Now I cant change the location anymore, what do I do
@Daniel Rossoni de Freitas maybe is a bit late, but you can open your admin task, delete explorer.exe, ejecute a new explorer.exe and then check when roaming is located

after doing this now i have 2 appdatas one in D and one in C, when i run windows +R and write %appdata% it shows it is on D, where i want it to be, the problem now is that whenever i check a folder properties i dont have the location tab any more. do you know how can i have it back?. also when opening games it still using appdata on c... i kind of wanting to get it back to normal, and get a bigger drive instead. "make sure youre on the newest version of windows 10" yes but the point is that i cant update to the newest version of windows 10 because i have no space and appdata is taking like 30gb
Plug in a USB flash drive of the amount of the appdata. Move the data Through a copy and paste that the data is not there anymore and then update windows. Once updated follow the video, move appdata to a different drive and then take the data off of USB stick and copy and paste it into the new location of appdata.
The AppData folder cannot be safely moved at all. While there are hacks that allow you to move that folder, the next time you receive a large Windows update, your system will brick and it will need to be re-installed. it is not worth the effort. Microsoft community says so.

Yall fucking dudes, you can't move appdata folders to another drive, there are reasons why it is on the windows boot drive, if you have like a SSD with low space, just put ur most used programs there like chrome,minecraft or roblox, then the other things that are more powerful put them on the HDD like cs go, source filmmaker, TF2 etc etc.
after i did this: 1- nothing happened i just had a second Roaming in my other drive. 2-the location tab disappeared. 3-when i click on the File Explorer in the Task Bar i get pop up saying that it can't open this file because it was moved, renamed or deleted!
Seems like this guy messed me up too, and his reply to someone else is him mistaking their problem for windows not being up to date when they did his exact steps
This is the only way that you are able to move appdata on a computer. Microsoft took disability away because of the fact that it can make programs not work correctly if they're not reinstalled later. I highly recommend to do this on a new install of Windows
I moved it to my D: drive and when I do Win+R it shows in the place I moved it to but it's still in my C: drive taking up storage, how do I fix this? Is it safe to uninstall?
@@TutorialClan I have this same issue. W+R %appdata% show the correct drive, but it's also still in the original location with all the files still in there. It essentially looks like a copy. Even though W+R %appdata% shows the correct drive, it's still putting the files in the out of space, original drive. (I restarted my PC). I also no longer have the "Location" section under properties
After moving AppData\Roaming found that some applications were confused and lost their settings until I restarted computer, then they seemed to act normally.

Wow. Tried it, and just like with some other people it just copied the Roaming folder over to the other drive, keeping the original one. Guess what, when I try to move it back by changing the location of the new folder, it won't let me because of low disk space, which is the reason I moved it in the first place. Please delete this video
It's just really sad and pathetic that I have to search for an answer to a question about windows and can't just call microshit and ask a tech there my question, microshit is a POS... enough money for 2 gaming companies but not enough to offer some kind of call in tech support... wow what a POS corporation.... thanks for the vid...and yes, I hate microshit with a passion..
