01:51 Residence Permit in Greece
Residence Permit in Greece (EU citizens)
If you are an EU citizen you can just come to Greece without much hassle. If you want to stay more than 3 months in the country you need to register your stay. You will need an address to register your stay but this is a pretty straightforward process.
Residence Permit in Greece (non-EU citizens)
If you are a non-EU citizen however, in Greece, like in any EU country, it is much harder to actually get residency. But Greece does offer some interesting options for non-EU citizens, especially for digital nomads, retirees and investors.
Digital Nomad Visa in Greece
Greece was one of the first countries in the European Union to make a digital nomad visa available for non-EU citizens. So if you already work remotely and have a decent income, you can work from Greece and enjoy the benefits of living in the country.
The financial requirements for the Digital Nomad Visa in Greece are the following:
You must have a remote income of at least 3500 euros per month. I would call this financial requirement pretty high, as you can easily get a residence permit in the neighboring country of Albania even earning half of this.
The digital nomad visa in Greece can be issued for up to 2 years.
One of the main advantages of the digital nomad visa in Greece is that you will have tax breaks. For a limited number of years, you will be eligible to pay just 50% of income tax that you would normally pay if you were an average, let’s say, Greek resident. But of course, it is important to remember that Greece is an ultra high tax country, so even at 50% of the normal taxes, it is not an amazing deal.
04:34 Golden Visa in Greece
If you are wealthy and don’t want to deal with a lot of bureaucracy you may just want to invest in Greece and get a golden visa in the country.
The golden visa has a lot of advantages compared to a normal resident permit, such as being able to stay in Greece minimally during the year and being able to renew it. The normal residence permits on the other hand will require a stay of more than 6 months per year in order to be eligible for a renewal.
There are many categories of investment for the Golden Visa in Greece, which is one of the main advantages of the Greek golden visa compared to some other European investment Visas.
Greece also has some of the lowest investment requirements among European countries offering similar options.
The cheapest option to obtain the Greek Golden visa is to make an investment of 250k EUR in real estate in the country. There are other interesting options as well.
If you park 400k in a Greek bank account you will be also eligible for the Greek golden visa. This option is especially good if you don’t want to deal with real estate and you have a risk averse profile.
There are a few other options to get the Greek golden visa, but these two are the best in my opinion. There isn’t any golden visa with an investment below 250k either.
Greece Permanent Residence
Usually permanent residence in Greece is granted for those who live consecutively in Greece for 5 years on a temporary permit. This applies to both non-EU and EU nationals. However, to non-EU nationals stricter rules apply, as one cannot be outside the country for more than 10 months during the 5 years prior to the application.
06:16 Greek Citizenship by Naturalization
If you want to acquire Greek citizenship through naturalization you will have to reside in the country for at least 7 years to become eligible for it.
Greece allows dual citizenship. So as long as the other country you have citizenship also allows dual citizenship, you will be able to be a citizen of Greece and other countries at the same time.
06:48 Advantages of living in Greece:
-Excellent weather
Mild winter, seabreeze, most of the country
-European Union (stable currency)
Euro bank stability
Even during Greek crisis
Hyperinflation
-Schengen area
Freedom of movement
-Low cost of living (eurozone)
-Good residence permit options
Golden visa, passive residence permit
-Low foreign pension tax
Disadvantages
-Taxes and bureaucracy
44% highest personal income tax bracket
Ease of doing business low rank, below Peru and Tunisia
-Stagnant economy
Building ships and tourism

Greece has great artisans, local products. People mostly speak English which is great because the Greek language is hard to learn. And people try harder to be nice to tourists on a par with Portugal compared to other Southern European countries Italy, Spain, and France.

you should get updated with the economy, Greece's economy doing well and as a result is cutting taxes, like the enfia tax which is being cut by 30%.
@traveleconomics
@traveleconomics Год назад
The Enfia change is good. But unfortunately, the Greek economy is in shambles (which is a pity, the country has a lot of potential). Unemployment at 14%, personal income tax highest bracket at 44% and population declining despite immigration. Greece needs to do a lot more to turn things over. Reduce tax and bureaucracy, reduce the numbers of civil servants, give more incentive for new business.

@@traveleconomics how is Greece in shambles in 2021 Greek economy grow 8.3% one of the highest in the EU and it will do the same in 2022, Greeks are not declining my friend we are returning, like my self who is opening a business. The only problem that Greece has is a shortage of workers there are many businesses that cant find workers and good paying jobs too, like I said taxes will reduce because of the growth, I don't know were your getting your info from but it's wrong.

@@vassilisioannou5488 I hope you are right, I really hope, Greece is a wonderful country. Unfortunately most of the economic data are appalling. If I get a GV, after 7 years I can apply for citizenship (if I can pass the language test). How much of the 7 years can I spend outside of Greece? (you said 10 months, is that in total or at a time?)
@traveleconomics
@traveleconomics Год назад
you have to spend most of the time there. The GV is not a reasonable path to citizenship. You'd still need to make the investment and de facto be in Greece most of the time. Once you can apply for citizenship you'd still need to wait 1-2 years for the naturalization process. It is a 9 year game - being a tax resident in Greece for 9 years is not a wise decision for most types of income. The PT GV is much nicer if the goal is citizenship, just 5 years before you can apply and lower time on the ground among the requirements.
