Great video again! Regarding getting rid of still functional furniture: There may also be a charity in your town that picks up things like that for free and gives or sells them at a small price (to cover their costs) to people in need. One example is the "Sozialkaufhaus" in Bonn. I think they are more specialised in complete "Haushaltsauflösungen" (termination of households), e.g. after the passing of the last tenant, but they also do single pick-ups. Incorrect disposal of cardboard: A fine by the local authorities is one thing. A public reprimand of an elderly neighbour lady in the courtyard after she saw the not-so-neatly folded box in the community container for 2-3 houses, took it out, inspected it, noticed the shipping label with your name on it and patiently waited at her bathroom window that opens to the yard in order to dress you down: That's a whole other expericence! Needless to say, my cardboard boxes haven been folded perfectly ever since! (In our municipality, there is no difference in disposing of paper and cardboard if your house has a container instead of a bin.)

Though I live and grew up here in Germany, I am still impressed that Jen and Yvonne often remind me of things I would not have remembered or thought of and sometimes I even learn new things that didn't exist decades ago or I may have ignored them. Even for me this is always informative and I love to reflect on my German pre-conditioning vs. very different expectations and approaches from people with different pre-conditioning. I find it very interesting and I love the good vibes they send.

Keep in mind how much the furniture is worth when deciding on the price it costs to move it. It might be worth something sentimental-wise which has no pricetag, or it could be really expensive and would cost a lot to replace so it would behoove you to move it. Sometimes the move costs more than you think the furniture is worth, especially if it is a short distance move. You can just replace everything with new furniture instead of paying to move the old.
@zameerkhan8824
@zameerkhan8824 Год назад
One more important thing I got to know about giving away old furniture is the non-profit furniture stores who would come and pick-up the old furniture free of cost and they less it to others with a nominal cost.. The best way to recycle the used furniture and someone needy can use it if it is not worth shifting..

Great video! So helpful! Wondering I have read somewhere in case of flor (in my case it's laminate) I have some scratches from furniture and discoloration of color at few parts. Do I need to pay for that when moving out? Somewhere I read that those kind of "usage" are considered "normal usage" when person is living here for some time.
@simplegermany
@simplegermany 18 дней назад
Yeah it depends on how strong the scratches are and whether they have been there before. There is definitely some normal wear and tear usage that’s ok.

I totally can confrim that getting an appointment with some of the "Ämter" in Düsseldorf through their electronic system is nearly impossible 😞 (needed a new passport for my Out-of-EU travels this year)... However this seems to differ a lot from town to town as I could easily get appointments with any authority in Monheim, the next southern city of Düsseldorf.
@simplegermany

Oh interesting, we never had issues in getting appointments for documents in Düsseldorf so far.

@Simple Germany hello Jen and Yvonne, What exactly is the purpose of a mediation meeting and how can i best prepare for it? The context is, Ive been in active pursuit of permanent employment, and it is tomorrow.
@simplegermany
@simplegermany 6 месяцев назад
Mediation is usually used when there is disagreement or conflict. Not sure how it is used in your situation to get a job.

Quick question 🙏 The landlord is asking me to transfer the Kaution before inspecting the flat (going to see if everything works properly). Is that ok/legal? Thank you!!
@simplegermany
@simplegermany Год назад
Usually the steps are: you view the flat, you sign the contract, you pay the Kaution before getting the keys, you get the keys and do the Übergabe, where you fill out a document to state the status quo of the flat.

Yes, it is totally ok to pay before inspecting everything. Just make sure that you tell the owner as soon as you observe a defect, don't wait weeks long.

I think it actually depends on the city (or maybe state?) Moved within Germany and it was 8 days in a medium city in Thuringia, 14 days in a large city in Northrhine-Westphalia.

You guys are awesome and i love your channel. Very helpful ❤ and smooth 🫴 What documents do i need from my previous landlord? Is mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung needed for my new address registration? Thanks in advance.
@simplegermany
@simplegermany 5 месяцев назад
A Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung can be helpful to find a new place. We had one and added it to our ImmoScout profile when looking for a new flat. Other than that you don't need any documents from your previous landlord. 😊
