Hey everyone. It’s been brought to my attention that some “information” from the video is now broken. My best advice for everyone is to search for “everdrivepack directory listing - Internet Archive”. You should find what you need there. Email me if you have any problems MikesArcadeRepair@gmail.com

I set up my Mister a couple weeks ago and I have been playing through the NeoGeo library. I never had one as a kid but I had tried it and I gotta say, it is amazing to play these games now that are soooo expensive to track down and play on a real NeoGeo console. I love how easy it was to set up the Mister and for all those people who say it's too hard and can't be bothered, it's really not. The options are endless as you said and I wish I had found your video before I did my setup because it would have made life easier but oh well. I made it through.

Thanks for this how to video. I'm looking forward to installing Neo Geo once I get my De10-Nano. I'm not sure if you're aware that the part where you show the Neo Geo bios, there's multiple of the same bios. If you look at the dates of the bios, there's newer versions of the bios.😉👍
@mike7599
@mike7599 4 года назад
Nice pickup I didn’t notice. I wouldn’t say the newer upload date makes it any more efficient though. It may just be a duplicate uploaded by a different person at a different date or more likely It’s probably just different variations of the bios on different platforms like a mv1c bios vs a mvf1z bios. Doesn’t make one better or worse. Remember obviously the original bios’ couldn’t be updated. Only the unibios is the one you want to make sure you have the most recent update. Good luck with setting up your Mister!

I'm very interested in all this FPGA thing, from Mister to consoles on a chip like the ones from Analogue, but all it's like very expensive, I have always been a fan of old hardware emulation, but saying that FPGA it's preservation of hardware...I think it's too much to say. Edit: ok, after seeing 15 minutes of your video I'm almost on board...not much more difficult than a raspberry pi build, I'm definitely very interested. Re-edit: Finish the video and look for prices...again very expensive, for the price I just can get a real mvs consolized and a mvs flashcart, I will stick with emulation, not sure about all this "simulation" thing.
@mike7599
@mike7599 4 года назад
It’s not for everyone, but you’ll definitely spend way more going with original hardware. You also have to worry about the original hardware eventually failing. It is 30 year old electronics at this point. A consolized mvs will range from 300-1000 depending what you get and a flash cartridge is anywhere between 450-650 depending. Also remember with a mister you also have access to a ton of console cores. You are not just limited to Neo Geo.
@Sr.D
@Sr.D 4 года назад
@@mike7599 since I wrote my comment I'm more in to FPGA, mvs consolized always had been a no go for me on reality due to quality control on low price Chinese variants and high price in others, but both old hardware prone to fail some day, I'm very experienced with emulation and it's really difficult to see differences between this and some cycle accurate emulators out there, but again the diy thing it's very attractive, probably I will jump on board, and you will be on part responsible for that sir! Greetings and sorry for my English.

@14:xxx ;) I could never find the neo-epo.sp1 for the life of me. But it didn't matter because I went unibios all the way. By Default Unibios sets as Europe/Arcade and you just simply have to change it by holding ABC at the Neo Geo BIOS splash screen on boot up to change it. You also get cheats with UNIBIOS. Check out Razoola's page for instructions on how to use UNIBIOS. I never understood the instructions on the MiSTer github on using/converting your own rom dumps. As a person who is used to using Neo Geo emulators and fighting with so many different rom dumps and naming conventions, I wonder why Darksoft's Neo Geo dumps was chosen for MiSTer to work. Not complaining but I'm glad they are sticking to a "standard" and I love Darksoft's work. Even the Terraonion NeoSD has to convert zip files to their own format (.neo).
@mike7599
@mike7599 4 года назад
Thanks for checking out the video! The unibios is awesome and you are right on, you only need the .sp1 file if you want to switch to the original bios in mister. Note the .neo terraonion format is also supported with the Neo geo core, not just the darksoft romset.

Hi, I ordered a kit of BlisSTer cables and they were out of stock of the Neo Geo pigtail type, but they sent me 2 like the one in your video. 1 of them is a version 1 and the other is version 2. Now, I ordered 2 custom made neo geo sticks and neither of them work through those adapters. I know it’s not the sticks because different buttons work depending on the adapter. Plus the guy that made them, tested them on an aes. Any thoughts? Is your setup still working?... thinking maybe it’s an update issue. I’d appreciate your thoughts. Thanks. Just to let you know other llapi adapters (pigtail type) are working fine for other systems
@mike7599
@mike7599 4 года назад
Hey Kevin. I ran into problems with mapping the Neo geo adapters also. I had the version 1 and emailed them that it didn’t work so they sent me a version 2. Long story short I found the issues cleared themselves up by updating the blisster firmware. Which is kind of a pain in the neck. they do not make it clear how to do this on their website. You have to download a program from their website and then plug the blisster board into your computer via usb. Hope this helps man. Also make sure your mister is up to date by running the updater script.

@dannahan

Where did you get the blisster box and the attachment? I’m thinking of waiting for the ll cool joy. Also have you tested the lag between a usb plugged device vs the db15?
@mike7599
@mike7599 4 года назад
Links in the description of the video for the blisster stuff. The low latency port (LLAPI) acts as a regular usb hub unless you download the specific LLAPI system cores. Unfortunately these cores are not officially supported by MiSTer so you will not get them automatically with the updater script. It’s kind of a pain in the neck to have to maintain two different sets of cores, but if your worries about lag it will eliminate it completely! There is almost no noticeable lag as it is with the regular USB port, however the LLAPI really does eliminate it completely.

That MVS AES fact is kinda wrong. Basically all Neo Geo Carts have the AES and MVS version in them. That is why you can select it in the Unibios. Why are you saying that MVS Games are corrupted on a AES system?
@mike7599

The fact is correct. Mvs has sprites for its games built into its hardware that the aes does not. If you ever play the mvs version of a game on a aes console you will see corrupt start up graphics.

Correct but some graphics are also corrupted. For example if you boot up a mvs game in USA mode on a AES the whole “winners don’t use drugs” screen is corrupt because those sprites are stored on the MVS hardware and the aes has no way to access them.
