I am a networking ninja/passionista. Everything Andy said - YES! Especially don't network in the wrong groups. I know it can be very uncomfortable networking when you're looking, but it's what you need to overcome. It's worth it.

Andrew LaCivita thanks so much I reached out to everyone I could find at my target company on LinkedIn, and before I could even email anyone their hr saw my profile and reached out to me. They put me in touch with their hr manager, then the branch manager and finally their cmo and in a week I got a job offer. Thank so much this is my first real full time job, all your videos have been supper helpful. I really appreciate it.

I've never gotten a job via networking. I've always gotten jobs through a combination of working with recruiters and applying directly online. I am in a niche career field that's in high demand. I only had an 8% response rate from online applications (while unemployed). But it eventually results in one or two offers. It takes time but it still works. I feel very uncomfortable reaching out to people on LinkedIn while unemployed. It makes me feel desperate to be like "hey, I lost my job, do you know of any jobs that are conveniently available right now in your company that I'm qualified for, interested in and have commensurate pay?" It's just too far fetched IMO. Also, working with recruiters and applying online eventually leads to more network expansion and meeting new people anyway. But my career is so niche that I have to be open to relocation practically anywhere in the country. I'm on my 7th job now and 6 of them were obtained while being unemployed. I now get paid in the top 25 percentile of everyone in my field. Oh, and no cover letters ever needed.

the same never got a job through networking. Because your friends and coworkers are competitors, they do not need someone to compete at work. Coworkers are not your friends but rivals. Rivals do not help.

I moved to Germany, Berlin, extempore, without any specific plan. I know nobody, my german language is at the B1-level, (they often require C1-level at least, but there are English speaking jobs, too) I am not very eager to socialise, I want to change my career (I am an architect by my occupation) I am 55-years old - and I decided to get a quality job of my dreams - or at least near to my dreams, and start networking today, following these instructions. If I had had this information that I am now learning from Andy Maybe I'd have stayed in Finland, in my country, and started from there. I made extra-challenges for myself by moving abroad! In the question of networking, it does not matter, because I did not know anyone special in Finland, too. I would have had started from scratch there, too. Besides, I have a feeling that they are more tolerant here about the age than in my country. As a matter of fact, a 55-years old architect is a YOUNG architect because that occupation needs a longer gestation time. Frank Gehry was about 50 years old when he just started to understand what it is about. After that, he has planned several Guggenheim and concert halls around the World. Now he is 91 years old and working in his office. I met people from his office years ago when I was working in my country and we were planning to get the Guggenheim there, nd they said that he is a great boss!

Hey Andy!!! Thanks so much for the awesome video. You mentioned a "job search workplan" (with stats/prescriptive guidance for how to incorporate networking into our job search plan), but am trying to locate the link. Would you be able to direct me to where to find this? Thank you!

I am not sure if those messaging to bosses directly will not be irritating rather than creating network positively for German market. :) but thanks for video. please do not hesitate share your arguments.

Sir, you must be overwhelmed with the current outbreak. I finally left college after 4 years and I did 10 years of service. Unfortunately, I never thought about the whole networking ideals and my network is not strong enough for a 37 year old. Do you do stuff for people looking to change careers at 37?

if i am an accountant with whom I can network? It is ridiculous. Please give examples of how junior accountants can networking with CEO and chief managers? If in companies there is forbidden to communicate with managers, but only allows to communicate with coworkers? But coworkers are not your friends, who help you to find a new job.

Now am going to tell you one thing: networking for people like me SUCKS because is already hard to talk with people, and is even tougher to request for work - so, how an introvert with a dose of social anxiety do networking properly?

Hey Andy, I sent out a BH letter & applied via the ATS as I wasn't sure he was the hiring nor. He responds back asking me to apply online and the recruiting team takes it from there. Clearly, I looking to bypass all of that. Can I reply back to him and use the line asking for other referrals seeing that I'm in a job search or is that wrong since I'm interested in the company but he won't speak to me directly about a role he's hiring for? Smh🤦‍♀️, lol. I guess I know he's a rule follower!
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 4 года назад
I wouldn’t recommend that route. Ask him who inside the org Is responsible for recruiting for that position.

@@andylacivita Thank you, Andy. Okay, good. I didn't ask him about it but will ask about the recruiting contact. I didn't want to let it go to many days without responding back, so I'll re-follow up.
