Here's a new feature on the 2018 Honda Odyssey! Some of you are still driving vehicles with regular gear shifters, but its not that way anymore on some new Honda's. Lets take a look and see just how to put the vehicle in gear!

Was at the Toronto Auto Show yesterday, I was looking in vain for the gear shifter. Pressing buttons? More learning curve, not sure if it's better.

This is the same setup on my 2018 accord sport 2.0t. Funny the 1.5 turbo cvt comes with the lever but not the 2.0t. I think its pretty cool, whenever someones in my car they keep staring at it lol.

We have the Honda Clarity Plug-In which has button shift. I really miss a shift lever. The buttons are easy to understand, but they require me to look at them to use them. With a shift lever, even the funny one of a Prius, I can just grab the lever and put it in Drive, Neutral, or Reverse without looking. It's just more intuitive.

I know the comment is old but I was afraid of that. I don’t mind the buttons if I can use muscle memory without looking down such as parallel parking on busy streets

93,000 miles on ours and it’s been flawless! Up until now, never knew S stood for sport! Now need to figure out what that means!

How do you place the vehicle in neutral if it stalls and you must move it? Asking for 2018 Pilot? Wife’s Pilot stalled and we couldn’t push it out of rush hour traffic! Dangerous!

2 transmission types. One needs a special tool from Honda that they don't even provide to roadside service providers. The other requires an open ended wrench. And it's under the hood on the transmission itself. Dangerous indeed. No neutral override makes them nightmares to tow or move when disabled.

wabbyabby Nothing. You cant engage "Park" while driving. The beauty about electronics is its intelligence. Its a better, smarter system than the old mechanical lever.

There is a knob on transmission. You have to pop the hood to do it. It’s not so easy.

How do you shift to S for sport mode? If you stop but don't push the P for park but push the start/stop button to turn off the engine.....will it shift to park automatically?

Now I know why Honda is so expensive. Too many engineers on the payroll; "OK, what ain't broke so we can "fix" it"?

I hate these systems. I wouldn't mind if they had an option for a manual transmission with clutch and everything in the Odyssey. Automatic transmissions are unreliable.

First of all, S is for SNOW not sport Snow gearing, becomes active after you hit the snow button He fails to mention the paddle shifters on opposite sides of steering Wheel. Right paddle shifts up...left...down

You're completely wrong. According to the owner's manual, S is for sequential, so he's actually closer to being correct than you.

Damn. Was it just me, or did that brake peddle go all the way to floor? And easily too. WTF??!! This is typical Honda. Over engineer shit. I like to look behind me or in my mirror as I shift into reverse. Can't do that with this. Foot on brake, hold while I look not where I plan to go but at dash, push buttons, then look to see if path is clear. Hey we Americans are busy dude. We gotta get to work, not go thru a pre-flight before we engage thrusters.

Garbage. No way to put in neutral if the engine won't start. I've had to tow 2. And drag them with wreckmaster skates because to put them in neutral you need a special tool from Honda. You'd think they'd provide it to those of us who are responsible to perform their roadside assistance program calls... But no. Removing shifters with neutral overrides and replacing them with this setup is the dumbest thing Honda has ever done. I loved Hondas for their reliability and ease of servicing before these. Damn shame.

Too many distractive unnecessary useless features. If Honda want me back as customer, they should better concentrate on nicer exterior desighn, quality and practicality

well I think they did a nice job with the new odyssey the exterior is looking pretty nice to me, but everyone is welcome to say what they think. Now on the unnecessary features you have to remember Honda likes to always be the pioneers with new technology and then the other brands start doing similar stuff. or at least thats what I've seen in my 17 years in the car business, but your right sometimes they put a little to much on the cars which makes thing confusing. thats why I started making these videos to hopefully help people have a better understanding. half the time you got to read the entire owners manual to figure this stuff out lol. have a good night and thanks for watching. if you enjoy car review, car vlogs etc please check out my channel. this is a full time job for me so I'm uploading different car videos every day.
