Hi, I’m from France. I Love, love, love this Hoya and your channel !!! I have a large one since 3 years (and it flowers every year in autumn). It’s not very difficult to find this plant in France and not too expensive (around 15 € for a 14 cm pot). Origin: mountains of Southeast Asia. It is a cool humid temperate undergrowth epiphyte. I cultivate it in a “classic” substrate for Hoya, with potting soil, sand, perlite and a little coconut fiber, clay balls at the bottom ... - exposure: very light part shade (in my kitchen, in a north facing window) - watering: regular but spaced, the base of the root ball must remain moist Hoya linearis is sensitive to drought and excess water. - temperature: between 10 ° Celsius and 20 ° C in winter, tolerates up to 25 ° C... heat sensitive !!!! - flowering induction thanks to cool nights and short days .; a day-night difference of a few degrees is needed - Cuttings: in an earthy mixture, not in water .; ideal: sand, vermiculite And as you said : - enemies : mealybugs!!! I’m surprised you can’t root the linearis in water, it’s my preferred way to propagate, and I’ve always had 100% success. Another way to bulk up the plant, is to wrap it round the soil on top of the pot and peg it down. It then roots easily and you have a good full plant. It also likes bright indirect light to hit the top of the plant. Another great video, thanks Seán from Ireland. 💚💚
it will not root "anywhere from the stem" but only where there is a node or aerial roots, nature has his own rules ..... so it is better to cu half a centimeter below a node to avoir rotten stem in the ground
I acquired 2 full Linearis plants by pure luck. They’ve been at the top of my list for quite some time. I want them to thrive and this is very helpful since it’s not like a “regular” Hoya. Love your content! Thanks for all your hard work!
I bought one about 6 weeks ago. It came potted in pure coco coir. It was basically doing alright. I moved all my other Hoyas to lechuza pon and have had a lot of luck with it. And this one was so long its weight was pulling the roots up out of the coir. I was terrified to repot it since I heard they’re so tricky but eventually tried putting it in pon too 2 weeks ago. It might be too early to say but it looks very happy so far. Actually it looks like a different plant now. The leaves got very plump and juicy and “succulenty”, so it looks more like a Hoya now. The pon gives it a lot of aeration but also keeps a lot of humidity around the roots without leaving them damp. It gets a lot of bright indirect light indoors and has also gotten darker green. I think it looks quite happy. It’s just funny that I woke up to a new robust looking plant instead of the thin dainty plant I purchased. I water it when I do my other regular plants so not as rarely as my other Hoyas or peperomias for instance, more like a philodendron or a pothos.
Perfect timing!! I received a small cutting a few weeks ago and I am trying to keep it healthy... (fingers crossed) so far so good... it's still alive!!! I really like how you show the updates in the same video ... that way there's no chance of missing the update.
Your videos are getting so good, that I started to check out all of them, past ones included. Particularly when they are coming from Asia where I am located. Makes more sense. I like what you showcase your success and struggles with planting, as planting is not all bed of roses. I also like your propagation videos. Keep these videos coming!
I’ve had huge success with water propagation! I also had to fight mealy bugs on my quite long Hoya. I used the spot treatment on it, rubber alcohol, and then dipping the whole plant in neem, and I’ve finally got rid of the mealy bugs! The plant looked really sad for about a month but in hindsight I think it was because of underwatering
Hello! Can you tell me how your Linearis hoya is doing a year later? I just purchased two 6 or 8” Pots (really nice size plants.) I am afraid bc I have read that it is a difficult one to grow?? A lady in a blog said she killed two and gave up on it. It looks like I should repot mine. I just soaked the pot and a bug came out of it. I think I will do one with orchid mix and one with New Zealand Tree Fern. Thanks for the update.
I found an 8” pot of this at a garden center several months ago & hesitated to buy it because I considered it a bit pricey. But I got it and I love 💕 it and I’ve never seen one in a store before or since!
Love my Linearis..propping some now in sphagnum moss as well, I always do One node cuttings and never lose any, I place container in a prop box with light and heat mat..works very well, Vancouver Island BC Canada👍❤🌿

Oh my, it’s like you are talking about a totally different plant. BUT I’m in the Czech Republic and all my Linearis are super easy. I have them in aroid mix and also in Leca. They water-root super easy or I just stick them in soil or Leca. They grow like crazy and I have them in North and South facing windows. Amazing how different climates affect plants. No pests either on mine, even when others do. The only thing that’s the same is that they don’t like to dry out.
common in europe but not so easy to cultivate I lost mine too much water I can't wait to follow the evolution of the cuttings bravo for the quality of the videos
I'm in Louisville too! Girl I went up to New Albany, across the river, to Grantline road nursery, they have linearis and several other types of Hoya at decent prices, full 6inch pots AND rooted cuttings, all looking healthy af. Sorry, thought someone should know lol
I just got my very first linearis cutting 😳 I'm terrified I'm going to kill it. I put it in well draining soil (and some worm castings) in a tiny pot and put a little cling wrap over the top to give it some humidity. I just got it yesterday so... 🤞🤞🤞 I love your videos! They are educational and amusing 😘
I find that humidity doesnt affect this plant much, it does better in fact in my AC room with 50-60% humidity than outside. Just balance the watering so its not over or underwatered. It helps that you have it in well draining soil 😀
This may be too late for you to read, I was watching one of your older videos where you bought an african violet and you thought it would like to dry out between waterings, I hope you have learned better by now that they need constant moisture and very bright indirect light? I see that you also love episcias, have you considered joining the Gesneriad Society? I think you would love their articles on rare plants and you can get seeds very cheaply of rare plants. I hope you see this comment and grow many beautiful gesneriads.
I HATE that I learned about this plant a bit late😕 the prices right now are just a bit out of my price range for what you get...but damn do I want one SO BAD! They're beautiful when they are hanging in a full pot!
OMG I have also a plastic linearis "living" in my bathroom 🤣(unfortunetly no windows there), but I have also a "real one" in my bedroom😀just in front of my bed and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my lady(ohh btw she's grow in leca)
i like hoya ... more so than peperomia actually (gasp!) however I m afraid of the care and maintenance so I been looking at them ... but not hoya ... yet
For the hoya linearis I imagine you can take cuttings when you feel you have enough growth from the parent plant. They can take cooler temp and lower humidity but be sure to supplement light if its too low in the winter
I am from thailand but I don't know hoya! Actually we made new name for any plants. If not because of RU-vid I wouldn't know what it actually is lol I just get into plans for a few months.
They like cooler climates and regular room humidity 40-60%, and more light than we think without there being too much direct. Mine keeps dying in the nursery but spring back to live in my air conditioned bedroom
Hey! Ive had my hoya for about 2 years now, its lovely and hanging about 2 meters down! It just bloomed lasy month and the smell was amazing!!! What I noticed today, it's gotten black tips. About 1mm of every leaf has gotten black! Google know nothing about it. What is happening!? Help please
Could be over or underwatering. Or perhaps it lost many roots from rot or pest or drought and is now unable to take up water to support that many leaves. Do check the roots and the soil 😀
I have a nice long one, I let it dry out but not for a long time, when it gets dry then I water. Mine also got mealy bugs, I used a systemic pesticide. I keep it in a east window in USA . Smells like poop💩haha! 😂🤣
