Excellent video. However, I have to correct you on one point; You said, that Seiko would never recommend anything else but Seiko oils and greases. Well, that's not exactly true. Seiko 6138A Movement Official Service Manual says spesifically on page 1, section 4 (ahem): "4) Lubrication Colored symbols in the illustrated figures indicate the types of oil, its quantities to be applied, and lubricating points. Types of oil: >Moebius Synt-A-Lube >Seiko watch oil S-4" So, there. Gotcha :D But seriously, I like these videos. Keep on making them. All the best.

The proper way to understand watch oils and lubrication is conducting extensive testing with watch movements. You will know what works best for the movement.

Hello Kalle. I have read that Longines Ultra-Chron used molybdenum bisulphide for the escaptement to reduce friction, do you think this is so ? As an enthusiast/collector ( not game to interfere with my watches ) I have to say your videos are tremendously informative. Many thanks. Nikki

A favorite :D Unless you are not from japan... Japan is the country for small mechanics just as Swiss.

Love all your videos but I spent many years working in Japan and speak Japanese pretty fluently. Forgive for saying so but Seiko is pronounced like “Say-Ko” not psycho! Haha

Search for Moebius oil chart. Esslinger got a wealth of excellent information.

@ChronoglideWatchmaking how does 8217 compare to 8201 as a Kluber breaking grease alternative?

Oils I've been using is 9010,9415 for pallet jewel(was told to only oil the exiting stone),D5,8200 grease and 8301 grease with graphite for inside mainspring barrel.not real sure of the longterm with these oils and so far I've only actually done 2 movements but both seems to be working really well. Does the expiration date on the oils and grease mater that much.ask only because I'm willing to bet the oils I have will last me many more years than the expiration date on them and I'd hate to buy new oil every soo many years if I still have a ton of oil left.honestly for how many movements I'll be doing and how little oil is actually needed inside a movement I'm willing to bet the oils I have will last me a majority of my lifetime.lol

I think that makes sense to oil pallet fork jewels... What would happen If you use tiny ammount of 9010?
@ChronoglideWatchmaking
@ChronoglideWatchmaking Год назад
No problem with 9010, just on the tip surface of the pallet jewel, never on the sides. Good luck!

Not only does synthetic oil last longer, when it does break down it evaporates and doesn't leave the watch parts all gummed up like natural oils. The parts are much easier to clean when the watch is serviced. Should synthetic oil cost as much as it does? Probably not. I just ordered 2ml of, 1300, cost was $30 Murican. At that rate a 44 gallon drum of this oil would cost something like $2.5 million. Is Moebius the best? As you already noted most tech sheets for Swiss movements recommend Swiss oil. Gee, I wonder why? Probably the same reason that the tech sheets for Japanese movements recommend Japanese oil. When my current stock of Moebius is depleted I'm going to order some other brands of synthetic oil (cheaper). I'll bet you dollars to donuts there won't be much difference.

why are the pallet pinions never lubricated, please?

The palletfork must move as quickly as possible, oil will Increase friction if you believe it or not. There is no rotating force on these pivots. Hope that it makes sense.
