When short on time this is how I do a quick clean and lube on my reels. Tacklejunkey81 videos: Video 1 - • BPS Pro Qualifier Reel... Video 2 - • BPS Pro Qualifier Reel... Video 3 - • BPS Pro Qualifier Reel...
I purchased this model a year ago and was very happy with it so I purchased a second to add to my gear. Easy and fun to use and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to bait cast.
Crazy how much better you have gotten with video quality. I bet you would have never thought then that you would have this many subscribers and sponsors. Crazy what some hard work will do for someone.
I take apart computers regularly, change components (memory, PCIe, processor, hdd/sdd etc.), put it back together, reload the OS (if needed), and be good. But taking apart a reel makes me nervous for all the SMALL bits and pieces that, like you mentioned, just fall out. Of course like a computer, once you learn to do it, you do it easily I suppose. Great video, and very informative!!
I know this is an old video but it's all new to me and it is an excellent video to show me how the proper way to lubricate my baitcaster thanks again for making this video and sharing it with us.
Hello...im a failrly new sub. I really enjoy your videos..im a single father of an 11 yr old girl. About 2 months ago i introduced her to bass fishing and we have gone damn near everyday since. Especially w this Covid 19 crap going on. Im constantly teaching her. I love your message "teaching the world too fish" we watch your vids together. Hell im still learning and ive been fishing for 20 yrs. Anyways....i just wanted to say thank you. You prob hear it all the time so it may not mean anything to hear agian but i wanted to say it. It's hard raising a little girl alone and u give me one more thing that her and i can do together. So i thank you. Keep stuff like that in mind when u make your videos. Keep up the amazing job...and thank u agian. Eric.....
Yes. I own two of them and they are great reels at that price. I finally found something that they can't do. They don't like to cast heavy lures like big swimbaits and umbrella rigs. They are great for everything else.
Pretty cool how your excited in this video on hitting 11,000 subscribers and now your over 175,000!!! Lord knows you have made me a hell of alot better fisherman. Congrats to you Flukemaster. Good luck this year on the water
Great video but a spot you failed to mention is the worm gear to main gear. I cleaned mine multiple times and it still had a growl while reeling it in even changed the anti reverse bearing as to it being a little rusty from saltwater fishing still had a growl. I took a small paint brush and greased the worm gear to main gear and it got a lot quieter. Hope this helps someone. Other then that great video long time sub glad to see the time you take and the instructions you give have helped me a lot.
Fluke, as a trusted resource, I would love to see you do a similar video on cleaning your 13 Fishing spinning reels. I have seen a lot of varying opinions and videos out there on what components should be oiled versus greased, and vice versa, and how far a maintenance or cleaning should go, ie how far do you go to get things greased, oiled and cleaned. As a resource many see as honest, straight forward and without bias, I would very interested in watching a video done by you on cleaning and maintaining a 13 Fishing Spinning reel. Thank you and keep up the great work. Sincerely, Nick
I'm new to baitcasters, but I've done a lot of research on the parts commonly seen inside them, especially the bearings: Generally speaking, if a bearing needs to move as fast as possible, use thin oil. if a bearing needs friction to work right, but still needs lube, Thick grease. Some parts don't need speed Or friction, so you might just use grease so the lube lasts longer, or maybe oil so it stays cleaner. For that I like to split the difference with THICK viscosity oil, which is thinner than grease and thicker than speed oil. One more side note about Ceramic Ball Bearings: DO NOT use oil, or grease, or any other liquid lubricant on CERAMIC ball bearings. It will ruin the bearings, as the ceramic BBs are porous, and once they absorb liquid lubricant, they will grind forever, and they cannot be cleaned. Ceramic bearings are meant to run completely dry, no lube. Some types may be able to use graphite, but I recommend leaving them alone. That's just ceramic, though.
A black or white Buzzbait can be really helpful as well as a rebel popper. I'd fished many ponds before the big reservoirs and lakes but anytime of the day I could catch a fish from those 2 baits. I'd actually started with those 2 baits with a 6'6" Zebco Spincast and caught hundred of bass from it. A Mann's Minus is a great shallow pond bait as well. PM me about any type Qs about Bass fishing...I have many years of tournaments, tackle, gear, and equipment knowledge. Keep on Fishin'
have same reel, actually got 3 revos, only 1 stx. I just take spool out, clean a little bit, drop of reel fluid down where spool connects during the fishing season if I think it's running a little rough or I accidently dunk it, get it wet and see a little oil slick in the water, literally 1 tiny drop is good if it's just running rough, I might do what gene did if I accidentally dunk it. I do the whole tacklejunky81 thing over the winter, Gene's absolutely right, tj81 has some good videos, I used to have my reels serviced, last winter did them myself
That's a 6.3:1 Revo STX Gen2. I'm working on the outline and details of something similar to the video you asked for. I'm not sure when I'm going to film it but it's in the works.
Thanks Gene ... At first I didn't recognize you without your HAT LOL... Nice idea of taking photos of the reel on disassemble... I think I will do the simple breakdown cleaning first to get familiar with the term at first.. Keep a tight line..
That's cool man. I'm glad it worked out for you. It's amazing what a little TLC will do to a reel. I'll check out your message in a few. Thanks for watching
Great video. Being as lazy as I am I run the empty case through the dishwasher then blast it with the air compressor, then butter oil and put most of the parts back where they were.
Hey Gene, you should make a video about JJ's Magic. Like when, where, and how to. I'm new to it, and pretty sure there's alot of anglers who don't know about it either.
You have got to focus on finding the fish. The bass aren't going to bite if they aren't there. If you are bank fishing start off on the steepest bank and fan cast all along it. That is usually where the channel of the pond comes closest to the bank and the channel is the travel route of all the fish in the lake.
Pick two. A moving bait like a spinnerbait and a bottom bait like a texas rigged soft plastic. You can't go wrong with either of those from the bank. I was a bank fisherman for 12 years before I got my first boat.
This is what my table looked like yesterday. Great video... they're all very informative. I'm always looking for good videos on reel maintenance because I'm always looking for good tips and some extras I might miss. I also brush the top of my brake weights with a q-tip because they will also collect dirt and I also run the q-tip around the inside of the side plate where the brake weights run. Do you recommend oiling the worm gear, or using grease?
The more oz the weight of the sinker the deeper or the ability for punching situation to go through cover. The weightless style is more for finesse type of fishing but can be great for skipping with spinning gear..Keep on Fishin'
Nice tips, sir can u tell me which parts of baitcasting reel is more responsible for smooth retrieve. Is it pinion gear or one way clutch or any other part. Sir I go 3-5 days for a week so my reel is not so smooth while retrieve. How can I get it as it was new. I did oiling and greasing too. But still not so smooth. Can u tell me any suggestions
I have a Daiwa TATULA 100HS that makes noise no matter what. I've sent it off to have a deep cleaning and it comes back sounding the same. I returned it for a new one and it does the same right out of the box. Is it something I'm doing wrong or is this a Diawa problem? Thanks for all your videos. Best videos on the net!
Michael Jenkins It may just be a normal noise. Reels these days are made with materials that thin but very strong. This makes for a lighter reel but also allows us to hear more sound coming out of the reel. If it casts good and retrieves good and doesn't break then it will be fine.
I love Abus but the knob that you twist for the magnetic cast control on my Revo SX keeps pushing in. I can't figure out why and I think I need to take it in to a repair man. Any tips? That being said I used your last video to regrease my STX and it feels better than new. Thanks man!
This video really helped me! I did it and it worked great. But I feel it's time for me to do a deep cleaning. I watched tacklejunky81's video. I am not doing that haha. Who do you recommend I send it to?
Awesome vid, think ill go as far as you did but just be a bit more meticulous about getting sludge off(I know this was only for show or a quick cleaning). Did you put any grease or oil where that sludge was or was that residue from the main gear? How often for a deep cleaning?
I do it this way whenever they start making more noise than normal. Then each year I completely break them down and give them a complete cleaning and lube and oil.
Hey Fluke, i know this is an older video but was interested in your comments on the Lubricant on the worm gear...some say no grease and only oil because grease will catch dust and debris, I really dunno was just tryin to figure it out. thx your friend Greg from Kentucky
I oiled my worm gear and it quit working. It gets stuck on one side. the screw for it is tight. I got the oil off and it is still stuck. I guess it was time for a new reel anyways though. Thanks for the tips. I leaned how to take mine apart all the way after trying to fix the worm gear, at least I learned something haha. I still have no clue whats wrong with it because it looks like it should.
Just an update if anyone else is having this problem. I greased my worm gear and after a while of working the grease in it is working again. Use grease on the worm gear, not oil!
KC291 Yep I made that mistake and called Abu Garcia and they told me never use oil on the worm gear....so back at it again so much for fishing that day.
What do you do to fix a casting reel if the spool release button isn't being clicking into place to prevent line from coming out as soon as you start reeling? It's so hard to fish top water when you have to stop with your thumb, change hands, and then by the time you start reeling the lure has already sunk 4' into a snag.
Barring a are sealed don’t need the oil and reason why you don’t grease level wind worm gear is cause it retains all dirt and becomes abrasive clean and dry is best just a lil FYI well done video don’t think I’m a hater I’m not just passing on friendly info
Edward Egnor I bought some quantum hot sauce, grease and oil. You think the grease might be to much for a worm gear. Would you recommend oil on the worm gear , ? Just oil more often
Hey FM, some here...like me, are questioning changing out the bearings for faster CERAMIC bearings. Can you give the pros and cons in upgrades? Thanks for the videos.
Hey flukemaster. I have an abu garcia ambassadeur and recently lost the spool tension knob and finally got a new one. Once I had put the new one on I relized my anti reverse was not working. I was just asking for help on how to fix it.
It sounds like it was put back together wrong. I would be able to help you without seeing it though. Take it to a local repair man. That should be an expensive fix.
Sorry brother, I may have sounded like a jerk on my question, but I was trying to refer to "bearing lube" a different bottle made for the bearings according to Ardent. I didn't see this bottle on your table. That's all.
do you think this would be any different when lubing an cleaning the skeet reese bait casting reel? I also can't tighten my physical reel handle and it is getting real loose on me. I can't find anywhere where I can tighten the screws on the handle, any help on this? thanks!
They're probably work towels. Even if they aren't, towels are dirt cheap and easy to obtain. If his wife is pissed off about a few stained towels then she has a problem.
My baitcaster is screaming every time I cast. Does this mean it needs oil? Im pretty sure its caused by the spool rubbing agains the reel itself but I just want to check. Thanks Gene!
I got a few new reels on some combos. H2O Xpress Mettle camo and 2 of them aren't as smooth as the others, they feel more geary and make a slight whirly sound when letting the handle spin and I can feel the vibration in the handle of the rod. Do you think the gears and bearings either have too much or not enough grease and oil or is that something else? Thanks for any input.
I'm having trouble unscrewing the little silver knob thing on my Abu Garcia revo sx it like is so tight when I turn it towards me but it will unscrew away from me but then I can take the side plate off what should I do??
sir in my baitcasting retreive is not so smooth what to do i have cleaned it and put greasing also did nicly but not so smooth as before what to do please reply me
