You helped me gain the courage to take my Bernina 801 apart and get her back together again. Videos like this make so many peoples lives better and I just want to thank you for taking the time to give the community some of your wisdom to help us all out. Thank you.

Thank you so much for such a detailed video. My machine is over 45 and well travelled and now I have followed your tips it is sewing like a new machine. Bernina have unfortunately lost a sale as I no longer need a new machine!

Hello, Jeff! I actually used your vlog and another repairman's to determine what I might consider purchasing in vintage. Even though my husband offered to buy me a new ($$) machine, I am a little apprehensive about the current models as I travel with mine and I did not want to risk damaging the circuitry. I heard so many good things about the Bernina 830 from you and others that I impulsively bought one at auction for $350. I lucked out as this machine came with many of the original accessories, 17 feet, the manual with the sewing samples that the original owner had sewn and items from the owner's sewing drawer. It worked well, I cleaned and oiled it per your instructions and have had a great experience with it over the last six months. I will review this video when I am out the the Christmas hubbub to see about loosening up the buttonhole knob and becoming more acquainted with the machine in general. Thank you for your time in creating this video, it is extremely helpful. Merry Christmas.

This is so interesting to watch even though I have a late 70's Viking and not a Bernina. It gives me an appreciation of why I pay my trusted service technician to do the yearly maintenance on my trusty old gal. From watching this, I'd say you must certainly have a large amount of loyal customers.

I use this method on Bernina and also Pfaff sewing machines. You have to spray a quick 1-second blast at the back of the button hole or any other knob that is hard to turn then use with plastic safe penatrating oil then use a heat gun on low and it will free up in no time . Follow this up with oil. If too much oil is used it will seap out at the base seam where it meets the upper body. You can simply take the base screws loose and use a rag to clean it up . Just look for the linkage that connects to the knob you are having trouble with.

Thank you so much for taking the time to film this, I’ve just bought an 830 in amazing condition but wanted to double check the machine over before plugging it in. This video is so helpful.

Thank you so much! My machine stopped working yesterday in a class. I watched the beginning of this video I believe the washer inside the hand wheel was on backwards. I put the bumps just as you said and it suddenly started working.

Do you sell the rubber light bulb changer? I did not see you remove the bulb. I see you putting it back in. I have a Bernina 801. Found it at a thrift store. No rubber bulb remover with it. No accessories box. I do have the table that attaches and the machine works pretty well. The bulb pushes up but I can not get ahold of it to turn it counterclockwise or clockwise. I do not have the manual. THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME.

Thanks very much for putting the time into creating this video. Any chance you would consider hosting an in-house one day seminar on going through the machine and checking clearances, timing, etc. on the students' machines?

That would not be a good plan, too many variables, one machine could monopolize all the time. Not in the plans. Sorry

Hi Jeff, I just ordered the maintenance kit and some other items from your store, looking forward to receiving them. I watched the How to oil and tune up for Bernina 830 Record which I own. Your advice on how to free up the automatic buttonhole know ( which I evidently don't use much) is frozen. I will use the oil and hair dryer method when I receive the correct oil, now I was wondering how to free up the drop feed button below it, ( also VERY stiff). So far, I have not broken anything, but wondered if you have advice on that button also??? I have owned my machine since the mid 80's, have sewn many items, and want to get back into sewing more since retiring. Again, thank you.

Hello, Jeff. Your videos are terrific. Very appreciative of you sharing your knowledge. The "clutch tightener" on my Bernina 830 will not budge, hence I cannot wind a bobbin. I can't unscrew it. Any ideas? (I am an intermittent sewer, so several months can pass before I sew something... Separately, I am oiling per your recommendations using a sewing machine oil called Consew Zoom-Spout oiler. As I open the top and look into the machine, things seem a little 'gunky.' Could the fact that I can't unscrew the clutch be related to this gunk? Any help appreciated.

Hiya Jeff! Hey, just an FYI, the last section of your video duplicated, which is why it is as long as it is. I don't know that it's worth fixing, but if it's easy enough to do you could cut your time down by at least 30 mins. Thanks for the videos! Working on a 931 at the moment; somewhat similar. Still have to take a look at my wife's 830 like this one but too busy and she has like 6 machines lol.

Hi Jeff Love❤your videos! Question… I have Bernina Record930. After a trip for repair of the pressure foot shaft. The knee lift rod no longer lifts the foot. Would any of your videos show how to fix this problem? The repair shop went out of business. Only one in town!😢

Thank you , I learned so much! I kept looking for a way to raise the presser foot pressure. Now I know. I’m trying to quilt on pellon flex foam or soft and stable a By Annie product. I’m using a well oiled old style bernina walking foot that works well when quilting with cotton and batting. The foam isn’t moving and my stitches are tiny. Going to try raising the pressure on my foot. My question is should I use a different machine for this kind of sewing? I’m I running a chance of breaking the nylon gears? I’m sewing on one layer of foam and two layers of cotton. Thank you for your advice.

Thank you for the video. I have loosened and oiled the buttonhole knob as shown. I wanted to loosen the top buttonhole knob (zigzag stitch) as well and oil it a bit. Unfortunately, I hadn't tightened the lower buttonhole knob well enough and I think something got out of place. Could you also show how to readjust the upper buttonhole knob after removing it? That would be super nice.

Thankyou so much for this video Jeff! My inherited Bernina 830 record has been in storage for a long time and the original foot pedal has been misplaced. I'm having alot of trouble finding a replacement power cord/foot pedal here in Australia - do you have any tips on where to find the right one online? I'm getting alot of search results for the new Bernina 830 machines but nothing suitable for the 830 record.

Thank you for the video. One question I would really appreciate an answer to. I recently bought a 830 record which has no cam gears at all. Machine will only do straight stitching. Do you have the cam gears and how much are they please..

I hope you could help me please. I bought a 830 with a noise coming from the wheel/belts while on very slow speed, with the clutch disengaged. Once I speed it up, the noise goes away. I have tried to loosen up the belts, but that doesn’t help. I also took them out, cleaned with lubricant and oiled some parts inside near the wheel and that didn’t help either. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

My 801 made a sort of rhythmic swishing noise (can't describe it any better !) Was the main belt. Tried several things, but finally read about using bar soap on it - just ran it while holding a bar to each side of the belt. Worked.

I have an 802 Sport. It runs beautifully. The problem I have is that the machine needs a little help to get started. I have to turn the wheel slightly for it go. What causes this?

@susanlapierre-jones6009 Same here... I'm thinking it's either the brushes, as mentioned in the video, or the motor that's starting to fail.

@@berninajeff Thanks. Will watch for it. I've had the machine since it came out so waiting is no problem LOL. I tried to get into it to oil the needle bar, but it seemed the whole machine needed to come apart to get to it.
