I’m nearly 39, i can still ollie 4 boards easy, 5 on a good day. I ollied 7 boards back when I was younger. I don’t have the best of Health. my body took a good beating over the years. Been skating again now for almost 2 years. Weekend sessions only, when I find the time. Happy with the progress. These tutorials make all the difference. Wish I had you tube 20-25 years ago. There basically wasn’t much to skate back in those day’s. So we skated flatground and streetspots a lot. That’s how my ollies got quite good fast. Can’t wait to hit the skateparks again.

Welcome back! I just started skating again less than a year ago. I skated from 11 to 14 yrs old then had to stop for basketball, picking it back up at 34. Loving the Giger tutorials. It would have been amazing to have this kind of resource when I was younger, although figuring out a trick for yourself is incredibly rewarding as well.

I have a feeling many of our generation are having this itch again to start skating. I am 36, skated between my 14 and 25. Stopped skating because my knees were really bad and becoming parent. 11 years later and having a knee surgery a few years ago i bought a new setup. Biggest issue is i am a major pussy now, but i have fun again.

@@thierry-cannot-aim Yeah, I'm 33 and when I watch his videos, it reminds me how much fun skating was (I skated when I was 18-20), but in my country skateboarding is very frowned upon, and to see someone in his 30's skating is "pure blasphemy" :P Not to mention that there aren't many skaters now as there were back then.

Biggest lightbulb moment for me learning to ollie recently was that in order to pop, you actually have to bounce the board off the ground. Practicing popping the tail down and picking up the board is almost like the first step.

This and JUMP. Pop the board down hard then jump as high as you can. Of course this sounds so much easier than it is, but once you process it you can get some really good height. Same with kickflips (and everything else) as well.

I'm over 60 something years old and have been skateboarding over 50 years. I could do low Ollies in the 80's and tried to relearn them in 2020. I practiced everyday while holding onto a chest high rail for about half an hour for about a month. All l accomplished was getting tennis elbow pains from holding the rail and Ollieing. I gave up trying. Now it is June 2023 and I still don't do them, but I did have a great Go Skate day at Kohala, Hawaii with over 100 skaters rolling down the closed main highway for about a mile to the roots Skateboard park for the Big islands once a year Skate , bike event.

To this day I don’t understand what went wrong. I never again tried jumping over more than 4 decks. 😬

This is what really helped me. Find a surface that dosent roll(grass or carpet), and a place where you can hold onto something while standing up. In my case I held onto the foot of my bed frame and kept doing ollies until I could ollie up to the height of my bed while keeping the board steady under me.

A big lightbulb moment for getting my ollies to improve was focus more on bringing my front foot up rather than forward. I would always worry about my board not leveling out so I thought I had to push my foot forward but dragging more up helps the board level better and once its level then push forward. Catching the board in the pocket with your front foot also happens much more naturally when you drag your foot more vertically which helps control the board a lot better + you drag your board up and ollie higher. For me this was the final thing to tie my ollie together. It took me about 6 weeks to get my ollies to a point where I felt like I could do them properly and each time there was major improvement came from a big lightbulb moment in each step so don't get discouraged when you think you figured it out just to encounter another problem. Don't be scared to try ollies up and down different things as well it will give you a sense of accomplishment and help you focus on different movements in the ollie.
