Thanks! This worked for me. I've been trying everything to get my cheap sentry safe open (just over a year old), changed the batteries, tried the rare earth magnet thing, just kept getting that 5 beep error. tried this with a rubber mallet, about 10-15 hits in around the same spot and got the green 'proceed' light, put in my combo and it opened. Took all my stuff out of it, closed it, and now I'm getting the same error, and the mallet no longer works. At least I got all my stuff out...

What causes it?

I didn't even use a hammer... I pounded on it with my fist ... it took me a couple hits but the green proceed button lit up and I was able to open it. Thank you so much!

It only took about 50 strikes with a mallet but this piece of garbage is finally open. Thank you!

Are you kidding me - if this works ill be astounded. no amount of communication with Sentry over the past year has been able to get my safe opened!!! For 12 months i have a 5 beep ERR warning and it does not open. I even bought a 50mm X 30mm rare earth magnet and because mine has plastic cowling over the pin area it puts distance between the door and the magnet so it doesn't work. Now i will got get a small sledge hammer like yours and try that. Mine is bolted down however, so i hope it works when not on its back?

This actually worked for me, thanks for the video. My battery had gone completely flat, for a long time, and the combo no longer worked. Even the battery terminals were very corroded. I was very skeptical of this method but what the hell, I decided to give it a try as I had nothing to lose. So I lad it on it's back, and used a heavy rubber mallet, in the same spot as shown in this video. Took me about four tries and I was about to give up, and then, hey presto. I think I hit a little harder on the last try. I could not believe it when it worked. Thanks so much, this really helped me.
