I think you have a great set mate. The only thing is be careful with a salt pool with corrosion on the metal parts. I have a 33X54 30,000 gal pool. Great video.
Word of caution on the "conditioner". I've been a certified pool operator for 8 or 9 years now, and am very experienced with pool water balancing. I've had sales reps try to dump "conditioner" in my pool and tell us we need x number of gallons per week. This is a fallacy, designed to get you to spend more on chemicals. The water conditioner softens the calcium hardness of the water. So when you bought the hardness increaser (calcium chloride), you fixed your water hardness-- but when you add the conditioner, you mess it up again. Always take what chemical suppliers say with a grain of salt. All the chemicals you need are Salt or chlorine (tablets for chlorinator, liquid for feeder) Sodium Bicarbonate (literally baking soda) to raise alkalinity Cyanuric Acid for stabilizer (to keep chlorine active) Muriatic or Acid to lower pH Calcium chloride to raise calcium hardness That said. The algaesides they sell are good for removing algae growth (can also shock the pool [raise chlorine levels way above normal for a short time]) One last word to the wise: when you buy "boost hardness increaser" or "alkalinity up" or "pH lower"... those are the exact same chemicals I listed above, with a different name on the label, sold for 150%-200% of the cost of the chemical. If you buy Sodium Bicarbonate, instead of "boost/ alkalinity up" you save money. For example, Leslie's pools sells 50lbs of "alkalinity up" for $79.99 A 50lb bag of sodium Bicarbonate costs $38.99 And yet, they are the exact same chemicals 🤔
Thank you so much for this info!! Also, how important is it to let the salt dissolve before running the saltwater system for the very first time. I see he didn’t do this, but he is also using a system he’s already previously used. I’m BRAND new to this and I am so worried I’m gonna screw something up. Went to the pool place to buy salt and they charged me $12 more/bag than I would have spent at WM and the guy told me I only needed ONE 40lb bag even tho I told him it was a brand new pool and filter. I don’t trust the pool store now needless to say!! It seems very overwhelming and I want to make sure I do it right.
mines came with standard 3 prong plug too but i haven't install it yet, and does the built in timer in the aqua trol unit control the pump too (since that's where you plug it in) or would i need a separate timer for the pump?
Quick question! Is your pool a 24 feet? I just installed one yesterday but I have no clue about the ph and ppm. So you basically took the water sample to the store and they told you how much to use of each chemical?
I have an 18' round. You can take a water sample to your local pool store and they'll tell you what your levels should be. Or, you can buy a pool chemical kit and test yourself. The kit will also explain what your levels should read based off of how many gallons your pool is
I have 24' and I use test strips and take water sample to store. Find a store who does in-ground pools bc they won't generally try to sell u crap u don't need. Best advice, 2 things...#1if u shock pool bc of heavy use, find a store that has pure chlorine!! The stuff at Big box stores and Leslie's has stuff in it that messes up ur balance which Cost u MORE MONEY! #2 Look on RU-vid for The Pool Guy and look into adding Borates. I'm in Texas and after adding Borates have not had 1 breakout of Alge!
@@pamwebb6606 thanks! Yes, I’ve been taking the water to the store to get free testing. I will take your advice since I do have algae but I think it’s because I’m still learning how to control the water levels. Good luck to me this month when I will clean and reopen my pool ☀️😁
You can absolutely convert a chlorine pool to salt. The salt generator essentially converts the salt to chlorine. Consult your local pool store, they should be able to assist you further.
Buying an above ground and starting off as salt water. Do I need to buy the salt water system and sand filter in addition to the pump system it’s already comes with?
