Just a tip from someone who has bricked their ECU before. Do NOT turn the key off before checking that you can start your car after flashing. If you get an error during flashing just keep retrying until it works and or switch to your stock ROM and continue trying to reflash because if you turn your key off with an incomplete ROM you may lose the ability to connect to the ECU through the OBD2 port. It is possible to unbrick an ECU but it requires some electronics know-how.
Local tuning shop has a electronic gifted mate that fixed it though for couple hunjy. IM very curious how this was done as i would like to learn my self

Coming from a Cobb Accessport, and wanting to go opensource, I was a heck of a lot more confused than I needed to be. This video made things incredibly simple. Thanks!
This seems like a pretty solid and informative video... the bird noises and ship horn are super distracting, 10x louder and make me want to turn the video off. ( just FYI) otherwise, good relay of technical knowledge! ( this is supposed to come across constructive.... not like an asshole lol)

@@speedmastermarine already pro e-tuned using my accessportv3. Luckily my e-tuner also opensource tunes. I know what software to download, and know I need to purchase a tactrix cable, but idk if my old laptop (that I used just for accessport manager) is up to the task. Does my laptop need to have a certain amount of ram or ram etc? Or just a certain operating system? I'm not too computer savvy
@@eze8024 most laptops made in the last 10 years will have enough hardware resources to easily run the software to flash/datalog. Having windows 7 or 10 will work best, but older operating systems can also be made to work with the correct version of the drivers/software.

Can I flash a tuned file to two identical vehicles? Will automatic checksum solve the issues or there are some blocks or maps that needs to be adjusted?
Yes, there is no issue with flashing the same file to two different vehicles pending that they had the same ROM ID to begin with (I.e. they are the same identical car that you mentioned), if the tuned file was built from ther same base ROM ID, that isn't an issue.
@@speedmastermarine Thanks brother for the clear answer. I'm a beginner tuner tbh and right now plan to have uncoded tuned file from an expert then flash it into multiple vehicles with the same specs. I think ECU ID ajustments can be done via Winols software. I don't know if it's complicated or not but this will be my bext stage. Much love ❤️
Crazy question..just gotta ask..can a custom map be made using romraider and then sent to an accessport for easier flashing? If so, at least those of us that own an AP would have some use left for it.
@@KushestWRX No you can’t. In order to use the AP you need to flash a COBB tune. And you can’t pull the ROM if you’re on a Cobb map because it’s locked.
Hi, I'm new to tactrix and all this stuff. I have a an engine check light on in my '07 WRX and I'd like to start with just knowing how to run a diagnostic on my car. Can Ecuflash do this?
Yes, romraider logger can see alot of the extended CEL parameters as well as the learned knock correction, the long term fuel trims, as well as the ignition advance multiplier.
Absolutely! We agree! We are happy to help.... to get started go to our website and chat with us about the etuning process and how we can be of help. Link is below www.oppenheimengineering.com/product-page/subaru-wrx-sti-etunes-obdii-gen
Hi this is a great question, if you just want to datalog the vehicle's ecu paramaters while running the vehicle there really is no risk, it is a good way to understand how all the vehicle systems are performing. Obviously flashing the ecu carries a risk associatied with it.
I’m having problems to get the ecu to comunicate, aways get “download transfer failure” what could be the problem? It’s my first time using tactrix. From brazil 👍🏻 otherwise the vídeo is really good
i have a 2014 wrx that already had an opensource tune on it from a prior owner. the car is catless and no cel so i atleast expect its been tuned. i recently deleted the secondary air injection system. would me downloading the current rom and disabling the cel from the air pumps being deleted be a bad idea or effect anything in a bad way? still have the baro sensor. just have a cel now for secondary air pumps
Hi Zach, we can definitely help you out and advise a good opensource tuning calibration for your setup, send us a message at www.oppenheimengineering.com
Ihave a 2006 outback with a P0605 code, will this ecuflash procedure fix it? I had the dealership flash the latest wvu31 update and have had the code since. I can’t drive the car currently since the code won’t clear now. I thought I would try this myself
Yes, we can fix that reflash error for you. Not a problem. Are there any hardware mods done to the car? Send us a message at www.oppenheimengineering.com
Excellent video ! I've been doing some research but it doesn't seem to work on WRX 2023. Anybody has some experience with this car ? I don't want to go the Accessport way yet . I'd like to just monitor live data without flashing the ECU like the accessport does (to keep my warranty in case a problem occurs) Thank you !
This could work for my 08 NA forester. I have an wrx UEL headers and need to clear the CEL for not having any cats. I wanna make sure this method could get rid of the CEL code
Yes, it will work for your forester. Please check out our website and submit a tune request form at www.oppenheimengineering.com and we can get you sorted out

Hi! Stupid question, but alls i got is a computer and an OBDII to USB no fancy tactrix n all, im assuming im just gonna need to buy a tactrix cable? Or would flashing with just a usb direct to OBDII work??? Cheers if yall can help
@@speedmastermarine haha awesome! I just bought one lol, happy tuning for me i guess haha. would you have any base line recommendations? Im putting a Td05 in there with 700cc injectors and high pressure fuel pump, would maf scaling be all i need? And would the ecu figure out the rest? Cheers!

In my subaru liberty 2007. Using tactrix cable openport 2.0. I never pass through the first part. It tells me sending key.. Interface close Interface close I did it 193839 times already After it the car entry on the test mode, fans turning on and off. In the RR it never connect as well
If your tactrix cable is bad, or your OBD2 port is bad, or you Computers COM port isnt properly getting selected/recognized or you have the incorrect communication protocol selected then it will give you that "unable to connect to vehicle interface". Try and test each of those individually and systematically to pinpoint what is causing the issue and then we can provde more detailed feedback.
Hey I swapped a Non ACVS JDM 206 (was the twin turbo setup) into my 2002 Subaru WRX. Im using my stock manifold, turbo, plugged the ports on the driver side. That being said, I’m getting signal from my cam and crank but no spark, I think it’s because the cam/crank gears have different notches. I don’t really want to mess with the timing and I’m told that this is something that can be tuned and adjusted. Is that possible with this?
Bro you put you old heads on the 206 block.. then good to go.. the crank sproket and cam gears on the right side are different.. you would need a revd twin turbo engine as they come with the compatable pullys and gears.. i take it your wrx is a version 7+
Anyone know a forum or site that tells you specific numbers for specific tables that you don't want to go over or under for tuning? like how they say injector duty cycle shouldn't go over 80 percent and air/fuel ratio should be near 14.7? Might be a confusing question but im just learning how to tune
Great question, but there is no general answer unfortunately, it really depends on the type of engine and the application. The @Highperformanceacademy series of courses are a great resource for people starting out.
I have a 04’ Legacy 2.5i, I’m assuming the Tactrix cable will work and I can re-map my fuel trims? Would a FTDI vagcom cable work? What does it communicate on, KKL? Sorry I’m new to this stuff.
Hello, unfortunately the drive by wire 2005-2009 legacy/forerester/impreza 2.5i/RS are the only ones that are open source tunable. The 2004 is not, it is cable throttle and a totally different architecture.
@@speedmastermarine so I wouldn’t be able to mess with fuel maps and stuff, but could I clear DTC’s and force readiness monitors? I could still interact with the ecu via KKL protocol cable correct?
@@LemonsCraftMC_GAMING your vagcom cable is just a diagnostic cable, you cant change the rom data just tweak some of the learned parameters like idle speed and ignition offset, and clear DTC's

Downgrade to windows 10, unfortunately ECU tuning software prioritizes stability and consistency more than new features, so they often lag behind many years from the operating system releases to suppot them.
No unfortunately not, that generation is noy supported via opensource, but checkout our website at www.oppenheimengineering.com, we have tuning options for that platform.
So you do custom tunes if we send our logs etc ? Would love to know more as all the dyno tuners around here are BS and struggling to find a road tuner.
Yes, that is correct, the process is very systematic, with good quality datalogs often you can get a better optimized tune on the street with datalogs and reflashing. Feel free to send us a message on our website at www.oppenheimengineering.com for more information
Hello, yes that platform is supported, please get in contact with us on our website for support on tuning the EZ30 platform www.oppenheimengineering.com
No, not unless the tablet is running windows. But there is an excellent android app called "BtSsm" that will allow you to capture datalogs and display data on a tablet.
I just recently did a long block swap on my 06 wrx. I went from a ej25 to a JDM ej20. I have swapped over all the necessary components from my USDM ej25. Car runs. I need to know if this romraider application would work. If I understand correctly, the software setting has to match the cars ecu but wouldn't necessarily match the ej20.
Hi Jeffrey, yes we can tune hybrid setups like that, you can run the EJ20 jdm engines no problem using the EJ25 usd. Ecus. Why is it when you read/write the rom you have to simultaneously turn on key and click ok? When I read mine I didn't do it the way you did but still worked.
The 16-bit WRX ecus were very sensitive to the timing for turning the key and clicking "ok", especially the bugeyes, so you had to do it almost simultaneously or it wouldn't flash. 32-bit ECUs were much more lenient.
Do we get a certificate for graduating this tuning course haha , also what if you have a push start car it'll go to light first push then acc 2nd push then engine start 3rd push with applied braking , and completely off everything on the the 4th push ?
Yes, that is very common, send us a message on our website www.oppenheimengineering.com with some details on the year make and model and USDM/JDM/EDM/AUDM etc.
Don't pay someone to delete/disable codes for you, that is the easiest thing to do yourself. Go to romraider download page, get their latest ecu definition. V 0.8.3.1B. Record your vehicles ecu into a BIN file. Open that with romraider. Go to the bottom: "diagnostic trouble codes" and look through all of them for anything called "secondary air pump..." click on all of those, and select "off" for all. Save that BIN as CodeDelete.bin for example (it must have the .bin at the end) and flash your ecu with the new bin within ecuflash.
hey so you're going to think this is funny, but I added TGV deletes and my check engine light is on so I bought a 2.0 OP cable. is this going to work to get the ECU to disregard or forget that code? it's ok you can laugh
Hi there, I just swapped a jdm ej20x into my 06 wrx, swapped intake manifold and everything else from the ej255 except I used the jdm fuel rail, injectors and deleted tgvs. I was wondering about the e tuning service you provide, how does it work?? My green connectors stop working all of a sudden. Can't go into test mode. Tried different ecu with same results. Can my green connectors be bad? It was fine before until I went to smog my car and the technician smog plug wasn't working. After that green connector stopped working. Car still starts and is still able to go on romraider for logging and go to ecuflash and still able to click on the write/read icon but can't go into test mode so can't do either one.
This is very rare, but yes if there is a wire which has poor connectivity it will not go into test mode, you can manually try making the necessary connections by jumping the correct wires to see if it fixes your problem.
It's been awhile since I replied but I got it fixed like a month after I first comment here. The wire to one of the green test connector was bad and broke off. Made a switch to my car so now no more fondling around messing up the test connector wires.
Yeah, it is always a compromise unfortunately. We agree though. The timing of the ignition on sequence is very important so the overlay of the dash cluster is crucial for that.
@@speedmastermarine Thanks for your reply. With your help, I just reflashed my 04 Baja turbo; my first time. It had a spurious O2 heater circuit low code that came up at all the wrong times.
