That machine is offered by many retailers and the biggest draw back is the lack of prismatic ways. The flat ways allow the carriage to deflect when you change direction of cut so you have to watch that when milling as it could mean disaster for you when making longitudinal cuts as you might be taking a .020" cut one direction, finish the cut, advance table on the "y" axis for another .020" reverse direction back to start and find out carriage deflection is giving you a .040" cut instead. All of the "flat ways" machines suffer from this. The other thing is, you have to run spindle in reverse if you want to make lathe cuts with feed running away from spindle towards tailstock. They're fine machines for hobbyists but putting a toolbit upside down behind the workpiece just to cut a left hand thread is a PITA.

How are you getting on with the lathe? I am waiting for Grizzly to deliver their comparable model to me and have been looking for videos of people using them. (There aren't many out there!) So I was hoping you had some more videos of it working? Maybe an update on how you like it?

Hello Diesel Gypsy and welcome to my channel. I was going to buy a Grizzly combo until this opportunity appeared. Both the BT-800 and the Grizzly combo are great machines. I know you will enjoy it very much once you get it. I think that is a great idea to work on some demo videos and an update on how I like it is a good suggestion. I had few health setbacks but I will get on ball very soon.

The specs say distance between centers maximum 31.5” can you confirm that?

Hello Jacob Willard, I measure 32" from the face of the chuck to the tail stock. Any attachments will reduce that distance. I hope this help and may you have a blessed day.
