Forklift Training - How To Operate a Counterbalance Forklift. This POV video puts you in the drivers seat to see what it is like to operate a forklift! #GOPRO
I just did 16.5 hrs of a forklift this weekend, doing load in, load at Arrowhead stadium with the Taylor Swift tour staging crew. First extended time on a forklift in 20 YEARS. This video helped. Got my brain RE oriented. Ha
Lights, levers, steering wheels, you get the idea. Knowing what the levers do would be nice, one raises and lowers the fork, another pushes it in and out, another must be forward and reverse
Idk if you saw it, but to the left of the steering wheel there was a lever for 'forward' and 'reverse.' The levers to the right of the steering wheel, starting with the one closest to the wheel, was to raise/lower the lift, the next one was the angle or pitch of the forks(raising or lowering the ends of the forks so they pitch up or down). I can only guess, since he didn't appear to use the 3rd or 4th levers, but I'd imagine the 3rd is for side shifting(where you slide the forks left of right). Not sure what the 4th one does... although on another youtube video they say it's to space out the forks(i.e. move them apart, or together). Although, it could be possible for extending the forks out, but idk how likely that is since I've never seen a sit down with extendable forks.
What would be nice is going to an actual course to learn about forklifts, watching videos on youtube does not teach you anything, there is more than just driving a forklift to think about, you need to know safety, what to do in different situations, how to check on maintenence on the forklift, know what it can carry and not and so on.
It's an old video but wth, I'll mention it anyway. That button on the second lever (from the left), your pitch lever, is to straighten your forks to true straight. That way there's no guesswork. You just tilt your forks all the way back, and as you tilt them back to the forward position, you keep your finger on that button. It will stop the forks when they are straight. It won't go any further when holding the button, so when it stops, that's when you know the forks are level. ✌️ Best of luck to anyone new out there. It's easier than you'd think.
I learned this by accident as I spent months wondering what that button was for (I mostly drive Reach or the bigger Hysters so I have limited experience with something like this). I thought I broke something at first until I realized the forks were perfectly level!
thanks alot i was successful on my test an i am now certified i know right when i got behind the wheel it was much more complicated than i thought lol but i overcome all the challenges and learnt alot about safe
It's just kinda cool watching other people do it on different lifts and environemnts. Like I drive an electric one in a recycling center environment and I've always wondered what gas lifts or straight warehouse is like.
As someone with ADHD (or ADD depending on which DSM you're looking at) I must say it looks fun. It gets boring for me in forklift simulators and consruction simulator 2015 has a nice forklift I don't like that much after a while, like it doesn't keep my focus. But in real life that'd be a lot different.. I used to love just driving a toro lawn tractor and couldn't wait to cut the lawn when I was younger... so yeah. Easily amused a bit
Where are the TURTLES!?!? Certification just go to your local temp staff agency and ask about the program it should be completely free and you can get done with it in a week and they will also help you get a job as well .
I started at my current job as a order picker, well one night the assistant manager told me the company was sending someone in to to do an audit on the all the forklifts and order pickers. He asked me “you know how to drive the sit downs? If not I’ll move them myself.” I told him “no” he showed me. Said “this is forward, this goes back, neutral, emergency brake down here, brake release here, got it.” I Just hopped on the machine and figured it out. Well the assistant manager has been on vacation so the fill in has been letting me practice. I’ve got it down pretty much, I just need to get better with the Inching brake. I picked an order last night and said “you know what I’m going to do, I’ll just leave the pallet on my picker and practice with the sit down.” Was super easy,
@@Snakeyes11123 I started yesterday. I did pretty solid. I smacked into two things tho 🤣🤣🤣 those tight turns are something else . I just gotta be real slow next time
Now that's what I call a good damn video. Quick straight to the point and for folks that visual you can watch over and over. And pass what ever test is given.
@@KhariConception yales are awesome for sure. We ended up getting a different rental company and got LPG Toyota, most of them have about 7,000+ hours now, they get driven 24/7 on 3 different shifts
I must be the only one who didn't lie on the interview. I told the lady that I don't have a certification or some sort but that I am willing to learn to drive a forklift. Now they put me on round two of the interview.
D Brown if you watch it on a computer you will see pop up's and tips. RU-vid took away comments and popups on mobile devices. Next video we will be making the video with the comments in it so everyone can see on any device :)
Dude it's a forklift lmao I aced a surprise test for a job interview without knowing shit. Turned it on and felt out the controls. Its super easy after you know which lever does what.
I wish my training would look like this. I'm moving metal crates with legs, I have to stack them, it's really hard to put one on top of the other. I have only 3 days of driving, only one hour each day.
My brain: "You can do this, just remember everything that youtube video thought you." **gets on forklift** Also my brain: Brain.exe has stopped working.
I'm here cause I wanted to get a job doing this seems like fun maybe I'm the only women into doing this I have learned a few things on youtube but I would like to give it a go I don’t like lying if I want to do something I learn it before saying I do. 🙂
I'm going for training tomorrow for a forklift position. Passed my written test, and now im doing the physical. Been watching all these vids, so I'm not completely clueless at work when the guy trains me. Watched the vid like 5 times to burn it in my brain. Thing is, I don't drive, and I've never driven a forklift before so im extra nervous
im in exactly the same boat mate haha =] don't worry i'm sure you will pick it up, the difficult part looks like reversing but its all about knowing where the turning points are, after watching this video i got a bit of a better understanding, how did it go btw?
I was trained that you are to honk when you start moving and change directions. (Also at intersections, rounding blind corners, and going through doorways)
Yes but it's a very important lever. When you have a 2000lbs load on the forks, the lever tilts back so you can secure it better on the forks. Imagine if you stopped quickly and your 2000lbe load flew off and hit someone. It angles it back so it can't. Everytime you lift the load, you must tilt back to secure the load...everytime. hope that helps.
We have 15 minutes to unload a truck. I spend way too much time making sure my forks go in without puncturing the product. Other drivers go in, pick their pallet, back out, and park it in seconds. I take minutes 😭😭😭. Ive always driven standup trucks where we extend our forks and then pick up the pallet. I think it's a psychological thing. I get nervous when the truck is so close to product 🤦🏽♀️. I talk to myself out load and say...come on dummy just pick up the damn pallet 🤣
@@danielletaylor4056 unfortunately I am awaiting surgery on my ankle and out of work. I had gotten to the point where I could grab pallettes in record speed with my eyes closed lol. I miss it so much.
@@danielletaylor4056 aww thank you, these things happen💕 and yes it's very satisfying, just take your time and build your muscle memory. You got this 🤗💪🏽
I don’t know why people commenting on here are against the guy making the video talking a bit I mean usually how to videos come with a little bit of dialogue sure he shows what he’s doing but obviously speaking as he does things like in any other instructional video would help a bit more
+KHALIFA KUSH yes, most are new. It's cheaper to maintain as they are under warranty that way. The one in this video is new and it's a Toyota counterbalance propane. There are many different makes but all are similar to one another. Before you go for your test, make sure you received professional training from a reputable provider. Good luck!
Hi Sean, That is great you found these videos helpful, But there is a lot more to driving a lift truck than just watching a video. Make sure you receive proper training from a reputable training provider who not only teach you how to operate the equipment, but also give you a theory lessons on the law and how to protect you and others around you. Good luck on your test!
damn i see this one doesnt have im used to the little knob on the steering wheel to hold on to. ive tried to drive it without using the knob on the wheel and my hands slip so much
It's strange, on reachers they dont have you tilt back the pallet. I understand this is to prevent from anything falling off but why is this feature not on reachers?
I was trusted to pull the forklift in for the night and there was a zero turn deck on the forks and I hit a door and shattered the window, I've never felt like a complete dumbass. And now its 1:30 am and I'm here
Lmfoa this helps I have a interview tomorrow for a wear house job and they said they need at least 1 year experience lmao ima lie I really need this job
The right hand controls would throw me right off from the trucks I've trained up on. Fingertip controls make life so much easier. Even if some bastard has limited the speed of the thing to 6mph
Currently have a busted ass 1998 Clark propane powered forklift at my job. Mostly use it to push semi trucks and other vehicles with compromised engines. The propane valve leaks. The hydraulic lines are leaking, the back rest is gone. The horn and lights don't work. No backup alarm. Have to adjust the forks manually. Just threw a starter in it last year the ring gear is fucking toast. Haven't changed the oil on it in about 3 years according to my company. The Guages do not work and the coolant tank stays empty. The wheels wobble and should have been replaced 10 years ago. But God damn it keeps on going.
There's absolutely zero how to in this video. The title might as well just be watch me drive a forklift. Don't waste your time on this video If you're looking for actual instruction
Not a dumb question at all. In fact it's something that most people forget to do. Yes, you should always put the lift truck in neutral to prevent accidental movement while lifting or lowering a load. I have seen people fail the job interview because of not doing that.
yet you forget to tilt your load backwards upon taking it out and pulling it down? also no mention to keep your forks at tibial height when driving in general? that's interesting.
jonas holvoet he did tilt, after the load gets picked up you will see it tilt back as it just gets off the Racking as you are supposed to. You don't do it near the ground. Watch as it gets picked up it will lean back.
jonas holvoet this isn't training. This is a pov video. This is not to be confused with Forklift Training as we do that in our classes we hold. The 4-6" off the ground and many many other things are not mentioned.
can you explain how to you use the inching pedal? do you have to have it in nuetral first to use it? my understanding of it so far is that you step down on it a little to accelerate the forks going up and down. and if u step on it all the way it acts as a brake is this correct?
that steering wheel would feel weird as hell to me as my forklift at work has a raised bit to grab on so you can turn one handed that looks like a car steering wheel
You know when you have to get off the truck lift the pin and change the width of the forks, this is a lever for that. It's also for different attachments. If you look closely there should be a button on the forth lever too, so the lever won't do anything unless your pressing the button at the same time.
COSMIC SOUL they are all the same I gotta job driving a propane forklift and only drove electric I've never driven the propane except for a test drive for 20 mins twice and driven a forklift 10 times approximately, no more than that, I was tested on the forklift that has propane the day I was interviewed to get the job I have now and passed and they thought I've been doing this for a year or more when I've only done it 10 times approximately no more than that, it just takes practice and skill and analyzing it's function u'll get the hang of it trust me if I can u can
I don't think the comparison between a Doctor and a Forklift operator is fair but the "Forklift Training Point of view from the operator" title is to show some of the drills we perform while we do our training from the operator's view. We do have more instructional videos if you would like to watch them which include step by step instructions. Please take a look here - ru-vid.com/show-UC5q7Dpsgo9xm7ZvT4SjLZogvideos?view_as=subscriber
I think what Anthony meant was people came to the video expecting him to show what the controls were and instead we just seen a video of a man driving around
