Your channel is pure gold and overly underrated. You obviously put a lot of time and effort in your lecture, and it shows. Your explanations are always clear and concise, this is very useful to better understand the tools of the trade. Really, you deserve a lot more views and suscribers, I'm pretty sure it will get them with time. Many many thanks from an aspiring composer from France.

At the end of bar 1 there is an augmented octave of F# in the melody against G in all the accompaniments. I thought this would sound awful. But it doesn't. Why doesn't it sound bad?

Hi Richard. Thank you for the question. The F# is in the weak beat of the bar. Also, it should be noted that the sharp dissonances are not problematic as some modes contain these intervals. For example, A - phrygian mode. If, there is a A -note on the melody, you can choose, the A,B-flat,D, and F chord. And it will sound amazing.

Free yourself of certain dogmas when it comes to valuation of certain musical elements. Case in point here being that dissonance = 'bad'. Also, not every single thing in the _practice_ of music making requires explanation or rationalisation; if it sounds good, it sounds good. I'll add to Roshvan's point that you can even have dissonances on strong beats that will still sound OK depending on placement, style, taste and the music genre.
