How to Organize the Terraforming Mars Big Box to Hold All Game Components

We’ll show you how to organize the Terraforming Mars Big Box in order to fit all of the components from the base game and expansions.
When we got the Terraforming Mars Big Box in from Kickstarter and did our unboxing, we noticed there weren’t any instructions for how to put the pieces efficiently into the containers. We fit all of the pieces in and now we’re showing you how we organized it. We fit the special Kickstarter 3D tiles, the base game, Elysium board, Colonies, Venus Next, Prelude, and Turmoil expansion sets.

Thanks, this video was useful. I did it a bit different. First I put all the old city/greenery tiles underneath the 3D tiles. This helps being able to take out the 3D tiles, and also helps as an aid on how to put the tiles back into storage. I also switched the two lower trays, putting the deeper one on the bottom and the thin one on top of it. I use the thin one to store Turmoil, Colonies and Venus components, as well as basic game components. The bottom trays middle compartments hold the city domes and a couple bags of custom tiles we use to randomize the milestones/awards

Very nice! Love the idea of putting the old cardboard tiles underneath the 3D tiles. Going to do that ourselves now!

Awesome idea man, I also put the cloud of the nuclear zone tile on the cardboard one, next to the base, because otherwise the base is too high and interferes with the cover

You guys deserve a medal. It feels like every kickstarter there's a sea of comments on how the company can improve their game or should add this mode or increase the size of this board i the comments section. It blows my mind that during this campaign it wasn't suggested to make instructions. Anachrony Big Box and Too many Bones did it right

It was one of the most surprising things to us that they didn’t include instructions. To be fair though, as much as we love TM, it’s not known for having a crystal clear instruction book.

@@PartyTails totally agree. I have a quick question how do guys divide the cards using the card dividers? I'm new to the game and I noticed Several dividers had the same symbols on it. I'm just trying to discern everything.

There are dividers for the different expansions and promo cards that they have. We put one divider in front and one behind to create a card sandwich. We play with all of the expansions - except Turmoil - so we just leave all of the cards together and don’t separate the Venus Next and Colonies cards at the end of every play. So some dividers don’t have any cards between them in our box.

Im there because it's really dumb that you pay a lot of money for an organizer, and theres nothing in there to explain what each slots are used for. I figured out some, but I really had to check online...

Our pleasure. Glad we could help! We joke but there’s nothing wrong with the peasant stuff. We played on the original player boards for a long time. After enough accidental table shifts and cubes going everywhere we finally had to upgrade though.

The official dual layer boards are still neat and a huge step above the original paper boards as far as usefulness. We would definitely recommend that upgrade for TM.

Wow this game looks massive. Now to hunt down the game review. I think half way on pulling out all these pieces, my wife would have disappeared.

We haven’t posted our review of the game yet, but it’s one of our favorites. Teresa and Juliana haven’t played with the expansions yet, so we’re working our way through those before we do a review. And just set it all up before your wife comes out to play. Then it won’t be as obvious how many pieces there are.

How did you get your nuclear zone tile to fit in the box. The plastic on my hits the roof of the lid and it doesn't close properly.

That's definitely a flaw in the Big Box design. We have to take it apart and store it in two containers. We like to put the mushroom top in the Deimos Down crater so it doesn't jiggle around as much.
