As a fellow motorcycle rider, I must say that I really enjoy this channel along with Rough on the Road! It is packed with adventure and great places you guys visit. You should do more once the Covid pandemic ends. Recently I sold my XT660R dual that I used for a couple years (great off road capabilities, not so comfortable on the long rides - not meant for this) and was thinking to upgrade to F700GS. This is actually the reason I stumbled upon your channel while researching its off road capabilites, and boy was I impressed! I would've chosen the F800GS but my 170cm height makes it a bit difficult so I opted for the next best thing. How do you feel now in 2020 about the F700GS? Would you still recommend it as one of the best dual adventure bikes for short people or would you trade it with something else (70% long rides - 30% off road)? Thanks! Greetings from Romania!

Thank you very much for your kind words and support, Cosmin! In fact, I recently rode a 2020 F750GS just before Covid shut everything down out here. There's no question that it's an impressive machine with tons of bells and whistles. That said, for the additional $, I would opt to stick with my F700GS (and probably will for many years to come!). I wouldn't dare to comment on 'best dual adventure bikes for short people' because I just haven't rode enough of a variety beyond my F700 and Jess's G650. The G650 is probably a bit more offroad capable when you're equally accustomed to both and it has a lot of pep when you tug at the throttle. But boy do I love how the F700 performs beautifully on the twisty mountain road here in Guatemala and then blasts off the highway and barrels down an unpaved road without skipping a beat. I think the F700 is great for unpaved roads and even unpaved roads is very bad condition. To do more than a few km of serious off-road is challenging. But now with the dog on Jess's bike we are super content riding good and not-so-good unpaved roads to the campsite and maybe not trying to tackle the goat trails...

@@GoRUFFLY Thanks for the quick reply, Greg! Really appreciate your feedback regarding F700GS' limits on off road. Don't plan on tackling "ruff" trails, for that I got my trusty MTB. Once I get my F700GS this month (super excited!!), I'll just stick to easy forest roads & remote country roads which we have plenty of here. They often lead to amazing places. Ohhh, the thrills of exploring the unknown! :) Keep up the great stuff you're making!

@@Skyunlimited84 I have no doubt that you're going to love your 700GS. It'll be fantastic for forest and country roads and, in my experience, it's very reliable. Reach out and let us know how you like it after the first couple of rides!

@@GoRUFFLY Big dilemma here Greg, just found a great offer for 2010 F650GS 30k km twin with full options: ABS, original BMW handguards, original BMW zumo navigation, 2 original BMW windshields, 2 seats (low seat and comfort seat), top case vario, mudguard, kappa fender, crash bar - heavy duties, engine guard - sw motech, tankbag and sw motech trax adv side cases, ALL at the price of how much I'd pay for a stock (with side & top cases) 2015 F700GS with 40k km. Both of them look like new, in top conditions. What do you recommend?

@@Skyunlimited84 From what you describe, if it were me, I'd go for the 2010 F650GS. Sounds like a good deal with low km and lots of accessories included. They are very comparable machines so you can't go wrong!

thanks for great video could it be possible for y'all to tell me little more about wind screen ? Model number? how was installation of that extra bar ? is it durable ? and price maybe ?
@GoRUFFLY
@GoRUFFLY 4 года назад
Glad you found the video helpful. The windscreen is intended for the F800GS (part fiche: shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=55258&rnd=07242017). To mount it to the F700GS, you remove the two black plastic pieces (Cockpit trim panels) on either side of the dashboard display and place these brackets in their places: shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=55253&rnd=07242017, part #2. The links to the parts fiches indicate the prices. In the end, it's a fair bit of work and expense when there are a lot of other windscreen options out there. But, I definitely prefer how it looks and works compared to other options I've tried. Hope that helps and reach out with any other questions!

Sorry to bother you, but how long ago did you purchase your tool tubes? And did you get them directly from Moto Arbo?
@GoRUFFLY
@GoRUFFLY 4 года назад
Bought them about 4 years ago and yes, directly from Moto Arbo. The tube has been excellent and is still working perfectly.

Hi, I have the same windscreen, and although I like it because it has substantially decreased wind buffeting around my head, the windscreen itself seems to experience some buffeting, causing vibrations in the nose and instrument panel. Quite annoying especially at night when the light is vibrating. Do you have a similar experience?
@GoRUFFLY
@GoRUFFLY 4 года назад
Haven't noticed vibration coming from the headlight or instrument panel, just a fair bit of buffeting and noise at high speed. Can imagine how annoying a vibrating headlight must be...

Which bike would you say handles better off road - the g650gs or the f700gs?
@GoRUFFLY
@GoRUFFLY 4 года назад
Maybe the G650GS but just barely. It's gear for more torque which is nice but the F700 is probably the better all-arounder.

I would like to fit the same screen to my f700gs. Bmw say you can't. Where did you get the bracket from, did you have to make any further modifications for it to fit. Great adventure you guy are on.
@GoRUFFLY
@GoRUFFLY 5 лет назад
Hi there, Paul. You absolutely can use the F800 touring windscreen with the F700. No major mods or DIY is needed. You do have you get the adapter bracket (part number 77 33 8 531 603). The pair is $70. Look at the parts fiche through MAX BMW (shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=55253&rnd=07242017) and go to diagram #77_0523. Definitely not the cheapest windscreen option, especial with the brackets but definitely looks great.

@@GoRUFFLYHey, thanks so much for such a quick reply. I will order with confidence now. Like you, I've tried many screens, without success. I had the F800 touring screen before on a F650gs, so know it works for me. Thanks again.

Hi guys. Do you think I could make to ride these babies? I am 1.65cm so I am not sure.
@GoRUFFLY
@GoRUFFLY 5 лет назад
Absolutely, you should be just fine for an F700GS at 1.65 meters. You might be just a bit on your toes but you can also have it lowered. In fact, we've been told that they actually sell more factory lowered versions than standard. Don't know if that's true but I can believe it.

How many Km have you done on this bike and what repairs/replacement of parts were done? I'm talking about chain, tyre, wheel ball bearings, stuff like that. i'm currently looking at buying a 2nd hand f700gs that has 47,000km on it but am abit worried about the potential mechanical problems and cost of repair from worn out parts (or soon to be worn out)
@GoRUFFLY
@GoRUFFLY 4 года назад
Great question. My F700 recently clocked 100k km with probably 5-10% of that offroad. During that time, both wheel bearings have had to be changed. The chain needs to be replaced every 20,000km or so. I replaced the shock after 30,000 km because it wasn't top notch anymore. Otherwise it has held up like a champ and the other repairs have all been because of crashes. It's been a reliable bike even through some very hard living.
