My friend crashed his F700GS while we were riding at Carrizo Plain National Monument back in 2018. Hopefully this video helps one of you in some way.

Great vid, and glad he fared well, relatively speaking. The scenery in the vid is beautiful! Wishing you all many happy rides.

Very good review and like the others I am glad he was alright! I have F700GS and have not been in serious off road areas but "just dirt roads" which is what he was on. Thanks for reminder that any road can have that one spot that you just can't prepare for! I would like to mention need for first aid kits of a proper trauma type not dime store band aid kits. Some training in first aid is a must as minutes matter in a serious crash. Tow straps, repair kits for cracked cases hoses etc to get it home. Also poster's comment on having sat com like spot etc is a very useful thing.

Great video thanks! Crazy chem trails that day in the sky! Clouds do not form naturally in miles long, cross crossing patterns! Look up!

Agree on the steering damper and checking body after crash. Perhaps even X-ray to see if any internal bleeding occurred.

Steering stabilizer and tires for the terrain you'll be riding. Not much else he could have done. Glad he is ok.

How fast was your friend going? I rode between 7 Mile Rd., Soda Lake, through Cariso Plain to Hwy 66. On my 2003 HD Wide Glide, 30 to 40 MPH. The worst, was some fish tailing on soft sand. I ride the Shinko 705s on my R1150GS and they are an excellent sand tire comprise when you also do a lot of asphalt miles. Happy he didn't get injured more seriously. Get him on some dirt roads, plenty in the valley, to get experience on and most importantly... never have a newbie trail and try to keep up with a more experienced group. BTW, ride on the HD out there was not planned, I rode out on pavement and it ended, I decided to press on.

It was maybe only a 35 mph crash at most. Just a weird accident. He did have dirt experience before this and we weren't going at any outlandish pace. I've ridden the tires in the sand too and I'd argue they aren't great in the sand but maybe they're a better fit on the 1150. He's a pretty experienced rider too. He had just never hit sand before and we all weren't expecting a small patch like that as a few of us have ridden this road a few times over the years. I'm having a really hard time understanding what happened even after being right behind him and seeing some of it before the dust kicked up. That's pretty awesome you hit this on the HD.

@@MotoCampAdventure Thanks, I had to tighten every bolt on it after. But that area is beautiful, serene, scenic, it really takes you away. There are other areas near there that are awesome rides as well. Quatal Cyn., Ballinger Canyon et.al. I ride the Beemer for those.

How fast was your friend going on the 700GS? It seems fast to do that much damage..

think about a Spot X. I have mine hooked to my jacket where i can reach it, It has a SOS mode they can find you via GPS satellite. good if you ride solo a lot

Going to mention this for future reference for you, you forgot to blur the licence plate at the beginning.

I never understood the importance of blurring it in the first place? You ride around with it showing all day lol. What can someone actually do with a plate number?

Only people that have access to the license plate database is LEO. Civilians don't have access to it, it's illegal from what I've found out.

Not a real 'ADV' then. I'd rather be on a Honda XL 600 on trails and offroad. Newer ADV's have too many extra gadgets and breakable plastic. Glad he was able to ride away from this one.
@MotoCampAdventure
@MotoCampAdventure 2 года назад
No such thing as real ADV. All that matters is you ride it off road if/when you want to. What you are describing is practically a dual sport bike anyway.

Lol imagine being a non rider telling someone riding how not to ride.

There's really nothing he could of done with sand like that and the weight of the bike. If it was a dirt bike, he would've probably glide over it like it didn't exist, but a F700GS with all that gear, it's gonna be an anchor in that terrain. I suspect he was going a little fast. Probably got a little wrist happy and I don't blame him. I would've hoon on that terrain too.

I was riding right behind him and we weren't going very fast at all. Maybe 30mph or so.

...... why no actual crashbfootage in a crash footage video. It cut right before he went down. Would be nice to see where the problems happened.
@MotoCampAdventure
@MotoCampAdventure 2 года назад
I wasn't recording when it happened. I leave my gopro on setting where it turns on and records after pressing the record button. I do this mainly because gopro batteries don't last long and I have a lot of boring footage that takes up a ton of hard drive space. I wish I was recording while it happened of course, but I can't predict it.

Wow what a great friend . Instead of you pushing up the bike you let your hurt friend do the heavy lifting and you do a little pulling on the far side . Nice going . Where I come from we would call you a jerk .
