@@mks2184 I have the blower fan running at just below 3000 rpm, so it is loud, but it keeps the card around 50-60 degrees c during games, and 25-30 degrees c while idle. Not sure on exact power consumption, but since it is also undervolted, I imagine that that helps it be way more power efficient than at stock. But at stock Vega 56 isn't too bad either in that regard

So in short... • run benchmark (heaven, etc) • increase power limit to max (50%) • set target temperature of about 75c • set core clock speeds to about 1650 at state 7 • reduce mV until the core clock speeds fall below 1650 • increase the memory clock speeds by 10 until you see artifacts

I managed to have another good result. My friend asked me to do something with his vega 56 - in a nutshell I overclocked VRAM and underclocked core (870 and 1420mhz). I've also set temperature limit to 77°C. He is using ASUS strix version. Now, he has power usage of about 160W (according to wattman and some mining software - as a benchmark) and fans don't exceed 1500RPM - it's silent. He just wanted to have low power usage and as much performance as possible. I didn't even have to set power limit to more than 0 (base) or voltage - it's on auto. Feel free to use this preset.

Well i have some numbers with this Vega : I used a wattmeter to measure the TOTAL SYSTEM power draw. I have a Ryzen 2600 CPU 1) 4k resolution, 325-350 Watts (60 fps limit) 2) 1440 p around 170-220 W (60 fps limit) 3) 1080p around 135-150 w and 60 fps limit (without FPS limit : 320 watts) Also it depends on what games you play, consumption can he higher with Crysis 3 for ex I didn’t undervolt the card, just Wattman “Balance mode”. FPS limit can also save some power use with 1440p and 1080p
@AncientGameplays
@AncientGameplays 5 лет назад
Using FPS limit is not that correct, but yeah, the card comes with a 180W on core limit, that is why :D

HBM Voltage in wattman doesn't actually change the voltage. HBM is 1.25v hard coded into the BIOS.
@AncientGameplays
@AncientGameplays 5 лет назад
Exactly. I tought i said that in the video. Maybe i failed in that part haha. You are changing the memory controller / interposer voltage. That is why vega 64 bios will show even better performance
@tst6735
@tst6735 5 лет назад
If i raise the voltage in Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.2.3 It freezes. At Stock 950mV, no problem. So it does something, at least with this driver
@HristoUzunov
@HristoUzunov 5 лет назад
@@tst6735 I've seen this explanation a lot: "The memory voltage label in Wattman is wrong, it does not undervolt HBM, it is more like a core "voltage floor", or power budget to be shared among core and HBM." forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/vega-64-overclocking-undervolting-information-guide.18793012/ I'm fairly sure it works as some voltage floor too, because I've set it to just 900mV, while HBM is 945Mhz and everything works great. If I raise it to 1000+ mV the card starts to act weird with the same HBM and Core clocks. Also power draw and temperatures are lower with 900mV, contributing to stability I guess.

The safest way is to Set the Memory Mhz to +900 (Every Vega 56 can handle that) And the GPU mhZ in steps of 2% and to decrease the GPU mV in steps of -25 until you find yourself getting artifacts. Atleast thats what i would recommend.

It is really mind blowing how much power a single vega 56 alone draws. Like I stated in one of your video, my reference vega 56 draws 220 - 250. I have tried for weeks to get this card to work with my cooler master lite 600w psu, to no avail. The gpu tack has random spikes and freezes my rig for several seconds or my display black screens, forcing me to shutdown my computer. I never had a single issue with my 1070 ti and 980 ti but this card is truly something else. I really wanted to give AMD a chance, since I have a Freesync display, but I have to say I'm really disappointed compared to my experience with Nvidia cards. I honestly hope that AMD will release a more efficient card or they are forever dead to me.
@AncientGameplays
@AncientGameplays 5 лет назад
The problem is not amd. The problem is your PSU. Like u are on this video vega can draw a lot less power when fine tuned. You can put vega 56 to draw around 170w on gpu using around 1550mhz. Also, if your 600w psu is not enough, it means it is also not one of the good ones

@AncientGameplays

Well, i didn't actually see it yet, BUT, i suspect it is no Samusung's at all since it can't go past 920Mhz properly. Most Samsung VRAM chips will do close to 1000mhz on HBM2. @lashyndragon 5 лет назад
Is it safe to assume that any crashes either come from not enough voltage to the core? Or is that often a memory thing? I feel like although it doesn't crash right away and just underclocks, if it keeps "trying" to hit a higher clock with not enough voltage overhead it does crash eventually

If you want faster hbm you must add hbm voltage, the only way i know how you can do this is by bios flash. The "hbm" voltage in wattman is the gpu interposer voltage floor and has nothing to do with hbm voltage it self. Meaning if you set your "hbm voltage" to 1100mv your gpu core will not be able to go below this. I think they do not allow you to have voltage control for your HBM for 2 reasons. #1 you could likely push much faster, and #2 too much voltage can damage your ram long before it would overheat and has no built in voltage or temperature limits in place to save it. is nice video again :) ty have good holiday season for you and your family!

@pantzman
@pantzman 5 лет назад
Use a monitoring software (HWinfo64 for example) and take a look at the "GPU Hot Spot Temperature" it will probably show a higher number then the temperature in Wattman (and GPU Thermal Diode in HWinfo64). If the Hot Spot temp reaches 95 degrees the card will start throttling, so keep it under that. Do as Ancient Gameplays said and lower the max fan speed limit until you are satisfied with the hot spot temp and noise.

Great video! Do you have a Samsung or Hynix memory? And will a 750w psu be enough
@copadinac
@copadinac 5 лет назад
Also two more questions, will the stock r5 3600 cooler be enough if Im not planning to overclock😅 And will I need watercooling (or something similar) for Vega if I undervolt it, or will I be fine with fans from my case? Thanks in advance 😄
@AncientGameplays
@AncientGameplays 5 лет назад
I have Hynix (i do say it in the video) 750W will be more than enough (if a good PSU)
@AncientGameplays
@AncientGameplays 5 лет назад
As for the R5 3600 i always advise to get a cheap cooler and manually oc to 4.2Ghz. As for the VEGA, if it is a decent one, you will be fine

I have a question, So in my wattman panel, i have clock and voltage for all stages but the first (unlike yours were you only get the last 2). Do i ONLY try to under volt the last one (farthest right one) because if i drop my voltages enough, i run into the voltages for the other lower staged. Am i supposed to start ramping those down as well?

Well, the drivers were improved a lot since then. Still, i have my profiles in the description, which you can download :D

Man i got a Cooler Master 600w 80+, and i bought an Asus Strix Vega 56, but i'm concerned about the power requirements, so i would like to only undervolting it without overclocking. So i got 2 questions 1) Could the card reach its regular gpu frequency of 1590 while being undervolted from 1200 to 1070 and clearly without modifing the power draw ? 2) Is my PSU enough for this card in ur opinion?
@AncientGameplays
@AncientGameplays 5 лет назад
Then, the process is the same
@Maratuer
@Maratuer 5 лет назад
Ancient Gameplays so i should also increase by 50% the Power limit while undervolting, whitout this causing the increase of power drawn from the psu. Is that what u mean?

Hey man great explanation! I just dont know witch is better deal: Asus Strix Vega 56 or Gtx 1660 Ti? Both are 320€... and can you please tell me about sound? Is it noisy? Thanks!! And I subscribed!
@AncientGameplays
@AncientGameplays 5 лет назад
Well, my card is not noisy at all. the thing is, if you want a card to last longer, VEGA 56 will be it. If you want a card to not have to tweak and with a bit lower power draw, go GTX 1660Ti :D
