mediation to overcome desire implies control and which indicates conflict , isolation , depravation and all the rest of drama . strong mediation can not enlighten anyone rather it is self hypnosis and control mechanism . i don't even know if buddha said it and if he really said it this way , it merely meant for average people to have some self control .
