When you light the P Tex candle use a metal scraper to catch the excess. You need to clean off the carbon on the metal scraper. This will help the clean P Tex bond. Tip the candle with the flame up an the carbon will run back so you can rub the candle on the metal scraper. You also should use a file to put a flat sharp edge on your scraper or use an electric edge sharpener. We use a Swix model. I also use a Scotch Brite pad to gently feather the edges of the P Tex so it is even with the base. If the gouge is deep you may have to put some epoxy in first if you can see the ski core. Then PTex over the epoxy. Keep the epoxy layer thin so there is space for the PTex. Base repair take time and practice.
Hello, great video, thank you. Do you recommend Ptex or just waxing over long scrapes that did go through the wax into the base a bit. I fear I've been Ptexing too much and loosing all of my base grooves. Thank you!
