In this video I demonstrate how I fold and roll a packraft tightly so it fits on top of my backpack. I also show how to avoid damaging an airtight zipper when packing your packraft.

Liked. Fantastic. Just saw your channel for the first time. I'm used to 0.7mm and 0.9mm 1000 denier PVC. Is there any TPU fabric that comes close to the toughness and strength of the PVC or is it much less tough? Thanks for any info.

Fabrics are made to the buyer’s specifications, so yes, a manufacturer can make a TPU coated fabric as thick and strong as you want (within reason). The only real advantage of PVC is that it’s relatively cheap.

Do you ever had a leakage or a burst on a Packkraft? I thrust them for myself (with a life-jacket), but i am concerning about my bike or other heavier stuff, i want to carry with me. Do you think, a hose inside the hull (thin material and with an own valve on the outside), could be a safer option? The extra weight would be acceptable to me. Better, than a lost bike. With a zipper, it would't be a problem. Then, i can fill it up with some bags.

I have had a slow leak, but that is no problem because there is plenty of time to paddle to shore. A fast leak is unlikely to happen far from shore because there is nothing there to puncture the raft, so I do not worry about it, but yes, the easiest way to make multiple air chambers is to place dry bags inside the tubes through an airtight zipper. Don’t forget about the seat and back rest though - those provide flotation too, so even if the packraft lost all of its air your bike and other gear would not sink.

It depends on your needs and budget, but here is an article I wrote about that with some options: www.diypackraft.com/faq/packrafting-paddles/

Open the zippers - better let them open - when rolling?
@DIYPackraft
@DIYPackraft 2 года назад
I try to keep them closed as much as possible to keep out dirt and debris. If some dirt or even a grain of sand sticks to the lubricant it can cause the zipper to leak, and then you have to clean it carefully to make it hold air again.

@@DIYPackraft OK, I learned this too. So closed is better, but dont brake it rolling in wrong direction.
