Hey dude, before you get swamped with comments and bells; could u give my 2 packing tips vids a look and tell me what u think? I’d appreciate it. ❤️🇺🇸🇰🇭🙏🏻
Good video, May I suggest: 1. Sports, light weight, sweat wicking t-shirt. At times you need it for water activities or hiking, etc long sleeve wld be great. Plenty of mosquitoes and leeches. 2. Normal marino wool t-shirt for slightly formal occasions. Marino wool is warmer and cooling depending on ambient temperature, and anti-odour. Can wear it many times before wash. 3. The jacket size is still too big & heavy. Get something lighter with warmer rating. AC Is cold but not that cold. 4. You can get away without a rain jacket. Just get a rain cover that only cost a dollar and weigh nothing. It’s nothing fancy. But no one here in Southeast Asia owns a rain jacket unless if you bike. With our rain, rain jacket is useless too. Carry an umbrella instead. 5. The number of socks is overkill. You do not need thick socks anyway. 1-2 pair is good enough. In fact 1 pair is enough. Get a pair of sports compression socks. That will keep your feet healthy with all the walking. Sports socks also are durable and easy to wash and air dry. With the temperature & humidity, Compression/sports socks are great as they are sweat wicking. Your feet can breathe. Don’t go for anything woolly. FYI, most of us wear shoes, even sneakers without socks. Don’t be afraid to ditch socks here. Socks are so American. People can spot you as a tourist from a mile. 6. Yes, the fan is a luxury item. But it’s a godsend necessity. 7. Bugs spray. 8. Hat and sunglasses. The sun is scorching here. Don’t be afraid to use umbrella. You will not look crazy. 9. Other than those you pretty much covered everything else well. Good choice of flip flop. 10. Lastly, to everyone else reading here, wear a smile and try to learn the local language. You’ll go far when you learn basic phrases. Taste the local food and go to non-touristy sites. Oh ya, don’t worry about what’s in your pack. You can buy most of the stuffs here too. In fact some of them are quite cheap. That’s the beauty of travels. Just ask the locals, don’t be a tourist. Be a local and you gain much more. Do come to Malaysia, btw!
We'll be there in a couple weeks, starting with Thailand. Right now we're traveling throughout Japan. I wish I could pack this light! It's harder to stay minimal with kids.
BTW - The only other thing that I'd recommend making sure that you take with you on a journey is 2 pens. Keep on on your person at all time,s and pack the other away in a ziplock bag for an emergency. Can't tell you how many times I've forgotten a pen which created real problems when trying to fill out customs forms at the end of a long flight. Hope this helps someone :-)
Good save! Actually I had that, but the video got too long and I cut it out m. I figured people wouldn’t want to hear about pens and floss haha. But true, it is good to bring, I should have kept it
Just a suggestion......Instead of using a Ziplock bag, an alternative is a Toothbrush holder. This prevents the Pen/Pencil from poking through the backpack :)
Good video minus the underwear thing. That's a little nasty dude.. Sure they are odor resistant and maybe bacteria resistant, but you can't get away from that ball sweat over there... Poor ladies if you hooked up with any during your travels.
Get the NOMATIC! The backpack that I use here: www.nomatic.com/?RU-vid%20%26%20Instagram&Alex%20Travelbum And use the code Alexander15 for 15% I believe it's the best travel bag out there right now. Check it out
On my travels not only do I have a few pens, but I take along index cards. Before I leave my home country I write my itinerary down and important phone numbers, flight information , hotel information, directions and just general notes. They come in handy so you don’t have to pull your cell phone out all the time. Index cards fit in your shirt or jacket pocket.
All flight in SE Asia have a carry-on limit of 7kg, but the baggage fees are not as exorbitant as those in N. America. A one-bag carry-on travel bag is not going to work over here. I know because I make over 20 flights per year around this region
Awesome video!. watched it 2x and ordered a ton of items mentioned in the video from your Amazon storefront. I will be starting my 5 month South East Asia backpack tour next month (mid Sept 2019). Starting in Bangkok, Thailand. Thanks for the tips!
Hey thanks so much for the support using my links! I really appreciate it. Your trip is going to be amazing. I did 5.5 months and started in Bangkok too. You’re gonna love it. ✊🏻✊🏻
I think mentioning weight restrictions on flights in SE Asia and Australia is worthwhile. I see Americans pouting like children at the airport on every trip when their bag gets weighed and they are told they must check it. 7kg MAX weight is strictly enforced.
Watched your og vid of how to pack for SE Asia a while back even got the redwing 50, your content really inspired me im currently In Thailand gonna be over in seasia for 3 months.
With the weight of the bag itself there’s a few more pair of underwear or shorts. Planning on the same only using much smaller lighter bag and with a few more items thou not over doing it. Like a linen long sleeve for sun protection when outside/boat trips. I use smartwool 3underwear & 2 boxer it’s almost too many thou I wash them out after every wear so they don’t smell like a sweaty sac and even thou merino I want to keep fresh especially if not washing shorts every wear.
interesting way of packing :D your bag/backpack is amazing! I do it a bit different, but in all I take pretty much the same things, but f.e. not a water purifier, normally you can fill up your own bottle at almost any place. But I even had the fan, because my old Laptop heated up like crazy. you can buy one f.e. in Hanoi for 5 $, so no need to bring it to Asia. sink stopper! never heard about this before! must have. I used the dustbin sometimes to do small laundry. Did I miss it or did you forget a torch? and may be you take some Aspirin (ASS) and Ibuprofen, in Asia in many countries is only Paracetamol (Panadol) available, and that is not good for every case of pain. Diclofenac could also be useful as pill or as gel if you have some accident. but don't carry around half of a pharmacy. most things you can buy everywhere. very good, your packing list!
This is the best thing I've seen on this subject. I'm planning to spend a year there traveling, and it never occurred to me that I should bring a jacket. I can't stand cold temperatures, especially air conditioning. Appreciate the advice.
I appreciate the video, super helpful! I am planning a big trip to Southeast Asia and other Asian places next year, and I need all the help I can get because I'm only 19 lmao. But props to you for these amazing videos. Keep it up brother :^)
Love it! I watched your previous video and got the redwing 50. We leave in 3 weeks! 4 months of travel 🧳 Just a little worried about the 7KG carry on rule from AirAsia :/ Any advice? Just worried bc I’ll have my camera in my bag
Thanks! I love the Kelty Redwing still. See size is one thing, it’s easy to get around but weight...if things you own are heavy, what can you really do? I’d say just to do your best to avoid getting your bag weighed. That works most of the time. Or if you’re allowed an extra small bag like a purse or tote bag, put your camera and a couple heavy things in there during the weighing
Inacreditável como você está nascido bonito lindo demais seja feliz você Ian todo reino e é claro me seguindo comigo RS segue tudo que escrevi e ensinei
Don't forget to pack Imodium, Tylenol and your regular medication for the period of your trip. Carry WHO vaccination card or Covid 19 Vaccination certificates if you have them. Anyways very good video watched it two times. Reminds me what to pack after such a long break.
Thanks so much for these packing videos man, they are super helpful and will save people finding out they are missing things on their travels, myself included!!!
Absolutely love this! 🔥 This makes me want to book my next trip asap. Definitely going to subscribe. We just started a couples travel vlog so this is motivation! Check us out! We're a smaller channel but hoping to grow and support other channels with travel inspo like this one!🧡❤️💛💚💙💜
Yeah you can get by without it. But if you can fit a tiny portable fan, why not? For the rooms without AC or minimal fans, it’s great to have it pointed directly on you all night
Yes I use it as a carry on. I’ve only had my bag weighed twice, after 100 or more flights. So usually it’s fine, just make your bag appear small and they will assume it’s not heavy either
Cool video! Which gears are you using to make videos like this? By the way, if you like traveling blogs, check out my newly made channel, I will appreciate your feedback. Thanks!
Great video!! I'm traveling to al SE Asia starting next January. Any advice? Also, what do you think about Nomatic 40L vs Osprey Farpoint 40L? Thanks for everything!!
Thank you for your videos! Can you please answer my question: did you do any vaccination before you backpacking trip to Southeast Asia? I plan to go there in Octobre for a long time.
You’ll have a lot of trouble fitting that pack into carry-on in many of the small aircraft used on regional flights. Better to have a small packable daysack that you can use to keep your valuables together when they WILL take your pack off you.
How was your stay in Philippines? I am a Filipino and I hope you enjoyed your stay in our country! Let me share to you a duffel bag my husband likes to use for our travels, it is from Nomad Lane. It is a game changer! We just love it! I am planning one more for myself.
This makes sense. I am from SE but planning to travel out of the country and want to travel light for a month-long. And being me, I had to do research on how to maximize everything WHILE still packing light since I do not want to bring a trolley suitcase while we travel around. Thanks a lot!!!
How safe is it for a woman and a 6 year old boy to travel? Also if you go for a hike do you keep passport in the hostel or take it with you at all times?
Great video. Have you found the global entry card worth it for you? Faster through airports? I would also suggest bug/mosquito repellent spray. Observation: your link to backpacks for the Kelty Redwing 50 seems to no longer have the comfort fit model you displayed and it just looked different hence I did not order it.
Kelty to Motherlode to Nomatic. Interesting evolution. But what happened to the Hawaiian shirts? Not so sure about the fan. It seems a bit too much. Definitely agree about sunscreen being overly expensive. Not a water person so prefer a decent camera. I like snacks since sinxe airport food is poor. I love having a kindle just incase the entertainment system fails.
Yes, it’s an odd evolution but I still like all of those bags. still haven’t found the perfect one that has everything I look for. The bag is getting smaller so the Hawaiian shirts had to go. For me, the fan is a necessity, a life saver. I used it directly on me at night about 80% of my time in Southeast Asia, and I would have had many sleepless nights without it
I just did 7 months in Se Asia. But i drove allover. No plain, train or buses. 23000 km. i was not dress warm enough so i had miserable time in Laos and didn't go to north Vietnam because too rainy and cold. I don't know where you sleept because rooms without AC are rare and if so, they will all have a fan. A mosquitoes net is essential and i always carry emergency gears for camping. i only used twice but if someone doesn't need a shower every night and wants to travel really cheap, a hamac and a wind breaker will be useful because i notice there are many many abandon houses or shacks or shelters one can squat for a night for free along roads.. I don't plan to ever go back. Once has been enough. But i m glad to have done it. Thail;and, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Cambodia again, Thailand again, Myanmar, and Thailand again.
@@AlexanderTravelbum Awesome cant wait to watch your adventures. Laos is super chill and the people are the most relaxed you will ever meet in all of asia
