What should you bring to wear? You can survive and thrive by bringing just the right clothing and nothing more. By choosing the right materials, you can vastly reduce the amount of clothing you need - which reduces the amount of space you need, the amount of dirty laundry, the trips to the laundromat, etc. Up your vanlife game by bringing less.
After wearing this shirt (in the video) from Woolx for a while, it started to stretch out. I've since been wearing this Meriwool shirt, and I like it a lot more: amzn.to/3KCzt94
Welcome to Minivan Camper Gal! I'm Kelly and I camp and travel in a Chrysler Pacifica Minivan, doing part-time van life. Here you will find van build videos, tips on the digital nomad lifestyle, general travel vlog videos, and more. I'm into minimalism, and I eat a mostly plant-based vegan diet. I'm still learning how to do vegan vanlife well! I have some great vegan camping recipes to share with you, but would love some suggestions, too! Sometimes I stealth camp in the city, but mostly I like to boondock. Join me and my camper van as we embark on all the car camping adventures!

I'm guessing that maybe you wouldn't want to discuss on air - but silk undies are the equivalent of Morino wool over garments. I travel with three pairs - wash and wear and dry in no time. Plus of course they're light - and natural 👙

Excellent video. I was an Outward Bound instructor in the polypropylene era. Thank you for the packing tips-I tend to bring too many things. Less is so much more, and I am inspired to explore Merino wool.

I love merino wool garments and am slowly adding. I've found though that the blends do get smelly, not the pure.

Hi Kelly, great explanation of the wool and different types! I agree, it is more expensive;however, the lifespan outweighs the average clothes I purchase! Great idea re: the book too👍Good info, thx again for sharing-Lisa🌞

Air-drying clothes makes them last a lot longer, even cheap clothes. Maybe the hand-washing does too.

Love this! We too pack around our hikes - our van is a like a rolling base camp & gear closet - we too use packing cubes to group our seasonal & type of hiking gear in the van! Keep making memories & adventure on! ~Karen & Shannon WOY

I have what I consider good rain gear that gets soaked when I’m in the rain (I stay dry) so when I need to go out again I use a second set of rain gear. I know usually rain comes and goes and I try to wait for breaks but sometimes I can’t wait, any ideas?

I use a poncho- it works well, and I don’t get sweaty in it. You can find it on www.minivancampergal.com

Well, this is pretty much it. Actually I’ve been doing an experiment to see if I can live with just these items- and I’m loving it! Maybe you can try that.

My husband wears Merino wool socks and long johns for his winter outside work. It is expensive but I bought some pieces for his Christmas gifts. I never think of using it for warm weather. I think wool for cold. I like the short sleeve top you are wearing. I will have to get into the site. I have a summer birthday and I may be asking for a top.

Hi Kelly, I'm enjoying your vlogs. Merino wool is wonderful. We moved to an area close to mountains in NZ.🏞️ I get Merino wool clothing from the local Hospice and op shops. (I think you call them Thrift stores). I've built up quite a collection over the last couple of years. Not that I hike, but I ride and keep horses,🏇 so out in all weathers. Thanks for the videos! Brigid ☺️👍

Evey fall Costco Canada sells meriino sweater and leggins (well they are supposed to be undergarments but I used them as regular clothes...). Actually they are a mix of merino wool and other fabric but they do the job very well and they cost a lot less.

I see a big price (quality?) difference between Amazon and bona fide wool sites. Are your pieces of merino wool 100% wool or a mixture of fabrics? Like many others you've inspired, I'll be trying a wool t-shirt in the near future!
@minivancampergal1554
@minivancampergal1554 Год назад
Hey Becky! I try to get everything as close to 100% as possible. Woolx is a little higher priced than some companies, but their wool is non-cruelty certified, so that matters too.

Merino wool, is it itchy?
@minivancampergal1554
@minivancampergal1554 10 месяцев назад
No, it's not! It's really soft actually
@angelinasouren
@angelinasouren 10 месяцев назад
If you find wool itchy, you may be responding to lanolin. Want to know for sure? Find some ointment with lanolin in it. Put it on your skin, cover it with a bandaid so that it won't rub off, and then leave it long enough to see if you end up with a mild rash. (The green herbal ointment for bruises - I've forgotten it's name - has lanolin in it.) Some wool is definitely easier to wear, though. Of course, there can also be ethical concerns; you may want to look into where the wool comes from.

Ahh disappointing you are not vegan after all as I really like your channel. All animal products involve exploitation of sentient beings, not just what we eat. Wool and down - awful awful cruelty. And merino wool has particularly bad cruelty involved because of the extra folds around the animals rear - look into mulesing. I come from a sheep farming history in Australia - my uncle has become a millionaire from exploiting sheep here (he calls them his woolly fortunes) and I have nothing more to do with my family because of it. I hope you will reconsider use of and promotion of animal products as you are so natural and likeable. You would make a wonderful vegan advocate and ally.
@minivancampergal1554
@minivancampergal1554 Год назад
Thanks for your comment- yes, mulesing is concerning. The shop that I buy from- Woolx, is all non-mulesed certified. www.woolx.com/pages/ethically-sourced-wool
@antinatalistvegan
@antinatalistvegan Год назад
@@minivancampergal1554 thank you for replying. I’m pleased that you are already thinking about these issues. But putting sheep cruelty aside for a minute (and there are plenty of forms of mistreatment, other than mulesing which has been well exposed), I would like to leave one final comment on this matter and ask you this: Is it ok to use animals as long as we treat them well, or is their use also an abuse and exploitation? Is it ok to view them as objects, property, slaves or machines? Is their commodification acceptable? Is it ok to take their body parts, secretions, skin, fur, wool, hair, feathers to make a profit? Can they ever give consent? How is it different from taking these things and enslaving non-consenting humans?
