Funny story about dry ice and explosions- When my parents were newly married, my mom was trying to get some food storage set up. So she bought a ton of red wheat, and some five gallon buckets. She read that if you put some dry ice on top of the wheat in the bucket, it would seal and preserve the wheat when it melted/evaporated. But, wherever she got this info, forgot to mention that you should just place the lid on top of the bucket, and she full on closed the lid, on like, 3 five gallon buckets full of wheat. Sure enough, as she was praising herself in the next room, she heard a huge BANG, and then a sound like the kitchen had become a rain stick, and then a second BANG, and more wheat kernels landing everywhere. I think she managed to get the lid off the rest after the second explosion, but they still found wheat kernels lying around when they moved out of that house about 5 years later.
Hey so I have some questions!!! Do you think this contraption would keep the cake from melting if it sat outside in 85°f heat with mild humidity for like 4 hours under a canopy so out of direct sunlight. Also would it still work with whipped cream frosting or is that stretching it? What frosting do you recommend that it wont melt?? Making my brothers wedding cake and trying to gain experience to start my own in home bakery. Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much! I have a 6 hr drive and delivering the cake the following day for my cousins wedding. I was trying to figure out how to use/insert dry ice to keep the cake as frozen as possible. Thank you for the tips.
I used dry ice to transport a cake that was 5 hrs away. It was I. August and it was about 90 degrees outside. When I took the cake out of carrier the buttercream started to bubble right before my eyes. The entire cake was covered with air bubbles. Did this happen to due to the rapid change in temperature?
Need info on the insulated material used in the box. I have tried to buy this but the Home Depot type stores do not have it. Also the dimensions used for the panels. Many thanks!!
