Thankyou so much for showing & telling us all about the equipment/products you use. So many videos show us how to do something but not what to do it with. ❤️ from England
Thank you so much for this tutorial,I wanted to surprise my son and daughter-in-law to be with a special wedding cake and this is just what I was looking for. What brand of luster dust is that? Iv never seen it sold in such large quantity?
With the final brushing, with the very light brush, are you applying it with a dry brush or damp like the others? Also, are you able to use a different alcohol if you can't find ever clear? For example, vodka? Or another thigh alcohol content liquid like that? Thank you :)
Hi Minette! I know it's been a while since this video was published, but if you're still reading comments, I have a question for you. Do you think I could use this technique with a stencil? As in, painting on the cake with the lustre dust/alcohol paint like one might do with royal icing over the stencil. I thought it might be a lovely multi tier cake idea to have some tiers completely covered in gold and some just with images stenciled in gold.
Zahraa Mostafa lemon extract is alcohol. Any extract has an alcohol content. I have never come across a way to work with fondant detailing that doesn’t include alcohol. I think it important to remember that the whole idea of using alcohol here is that it evaporates very quickly and so won’t turn your fondant to mush like water will. Any alcohol content left on the cake would be virtually nothing.
Hi Minette, Thats really a very good tutorial. I have a question regarding use of Alcohol. Due to religious reason i can't use alcohol. is there any substitute to alcohol? thanks
Okay I have a question and I needed answered as soon as possible it's about the silver Luster Dust where can I buy that what store can or cake supply store I can get it at
Hun can I put the meringue in the fridge with the mixing bowl to cool down before I add the butter to make Swiss meringue buttercream ? I don’t want to over mix the meringue and still the bowl is warm
minetterushingcakes Thank you so much your an amazing woman I’ve added the butter and it’s very running I don’t think I left the meringue in the fridge too long 😫😫😫
Can I use a pearl luster dust on blue fondant? Or would it cover the color?? I want to make a royal blue pearl cake and I'm not sure if I should maybe mix blue and pearl luster dust?
Hi I was just wondering if I can use lemon extract instead of vodka, AND, am I able to apply a sugar lace to a cake after this if it dries fairly quickly? Thanks a lot for the video.
+Diatriber Diatriber You are welcome! Yes, you can use lemon extract instead of the Everclear to paint. Lemon extract will dry very quickly, as well. Yes, you can apply sugar lace to the painted cake...just make sure it is good and dry.
Good morning! I have a question for you. Have you painted a cake using this method (grain alcohol) with modeling chocolate? If so, what is the reaction? I hate fondant and would like to pearlize a cake that is covered in modeling chocolate. Heeeelp!!
Talithaz1 Barnes thanks for reply. Why you not use the lemon extract? Have always said me that, with luster color, is the best to really make the luster ... is that it?
I'm from the UK and a cake decorator too. You can use vodka or gin to mix, you can also buy a dipping alcohol from your nearest cake shop, hope this helps?
minetterushingcakes I can’t believe you replied Thank you so much Do you mind if I can message you when I need some advice as I’m new to baking and I have a wedding cake to do in March next year 😆 I shall definitely try the lemon extract instead of the vanilla By the way I love your videos I came across yesterday and watched afew with delight 🌹♥️
tee givens, I buy large containers of pearl dust from CK Products, which is a wholesaler. Check with www.flourconfections.com, they should carry large containers of dust too.
thank you so much for this lesson! i was stumped to know how to show the metallic look. i wanted to ask.. I'm doing a frozen character ombre two tier cake and going to use the airbrush kit for the first time so my question is do i airbrush first then add the lustre dust or do i add the lustre look then airbrush over?
savannahcustomcakes thank you so much for your response, ok i guess i will have to learn it lool.. so how do you make an ombre effect on a cake without using an airbrush?
