Rejuvenator spirit helps to turn edible dusts into a paint. It evaporates completely so leaves no after taste. Zoe’s Fancy Cakes sells this and also ships worldwide x
I understand that this video is for tutorial purposes but question for you... Did you use a styrofoam instead of a real cake??? Is this the best way to learn how to cover a cake with fondant? Just curious. I have a wedding cake to do in November.
Hi there x yes I did use a polystyrene cake dummy for this (it’s currently on display). Using a dummy is a great way to practice covering cakes, just bare in mind that the dummy is significantly lighter than a real cake x
Rejuvenator spirit has a high alcohol content so it evaporates quickly when painted onto a cake. You could use a very high alcohol vodka (not the normal drinking one) or if you wanted or needed to avoid alcohol completely, you could use lemon extract x
What kind of edible dust did you use ? I'm having a hard time finding actual edible dust. It seems websites like Amazon market as edible but it is not.
Hi, this helps a lot, I've to do a rose gold cake in a few days, what I'm wondering though is can you do brush embroidery over this? I wouldn't want to pull the colour off it. X
Hi Mandy x I’ve never actually tried, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to. I would possibly leave it to dry/settle for a day before doing the brush embroidery though x
Can someone help me, can you put the painted cake back in the fridge after or will it affect the paint? EDIT: I did paint the buttercream in gold paint and it was fine in the fridge overnight! Just have to make sure the buttercream is very firm before painting. Thank you so much for replying xx
I wouldn’t advise putting a fondant covered cake in the fridge regardless whether it’s been painted or not. The fondant will sweat when brought back to room temperature x
Oh lol x I’ve personally never painted a buttercream cake. I tend to just colour the buttercream the colours I need. I know many ppl have painted a whole buttercream cake before. Not sure if they have put it in the fridge after, but I know you would need to be very gentle when painting it as not to ruin the smoothness if your buttercream x
is it okay if i wanna color it gold but i don't use similar color fondant? i don't have the food coloring. please give me an answer cause it's for my final exam and i have to finish it tomorrow:')
Yes honey gold x I find it best to colour the fondant a similar colour to the lustre dust you wish to use as if there are any little parts that you may miss, it wouldn’t be as obvious x
Hi its very helpful video. Plz could u tell how to do glitter effect on buttercream cream cake. I've searched so much, but cant find answer. Would i apply glitter first then paint it on the buttercream, also what kind of glitter is paintable. Also can buttercream cake can be refrigrated after paint & glitter. Thank you so much for your tutorial .
Hi there, I don’t/have never painted a full buttercream cake (just maybe a name). They can be placed in the fridge, but you would need to be very careful when bringing it back to room temperature as it could sweat and the paint could run or discolour. If I use glitter on a buttercream cake, I just use the non aerosol lustre puffs all over the cake once decorated x
Hey colouring your fondant yellow before painting really makes a difference? Like does it make look more shinier or brighter or something like that? What if i paint on white Fondant. Will there any be large difference?
Colouring it a similar colour just helps with the covering of the paint (as in if you slightly miss a section, it won’t stand out as bad). You can leave if white, but depending on the paint, you may need more layers of paint to ensure it’s covered.
Hi do we have to put cream first and then fondant because I’m gonna make this similar but it’s my first time doing all these so if possible can yuh help me please 🙂
Fantastic job! Could I do a ganache this on a ganache cake? Also would I be able to do a ganache drip over the painted ganache or would it run the colour?
You can paint directly onto ganache. Adding a drip after may effect the paint slightly. Best thing to do would be to do a little tester to see how that turns out before going straight into a cake x
I’ve not personally used any, but I’m sure there will be a brand out there that does them. Failing that, I would use standard colours and add some edible shimmer dust to it so it sparkles x x
Hi Hun x always allow your fondant to set over night before attempting to stack them, and use a cake lifter or something similar to help to lift your cake so you don’t have to handle it too much x
Hello, thanks for the tutoral. Is the fondant originally colored or you colored it yourself. If you did were there no issues if fondant being to soft or cracks. Again which brand do you use. thanks
I would always use a large brush and do longer strokes where possible. It’s impossible not to have some streaks, but the buffing after can help to hide some of it x
Hi there x I’ve never coloured fondant a champagne colour before, however I believe if you add a hint of pink and a very small touch of brown to your fondant, these may give you the colour you need. Alternatively, there is a new edible paint out by Sweetsticks, they do a champagne paint which can be painted straight into cakes. This can be purchased from www.chrissiecakesandsupplies.co.uk x hope this helps x
Hi Hun, you wouldn’t get the same effect without turning the dust into a paint, dust alone would make it sparkle, but it wouldn’t give it the deep gold colour x
Hi there x rejuvenator spirit is a strong alcohol which turns edible dust into paint, the alcohol evaporates very quickly allowing the paint to dry very quickly x you can also us dipping solution x
I’ve never tried it hun, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be a problem. Best thing to do is to try a little test piece (not on the cake) to see if you can work with it x x
Nauty Little Treats hello!!! Thanks for the response. I didn’t know you’ll respond cause you uploaded this way back. Anyway, I made the cake! I didn’t used plain extract but used alcohol! It worked. The only problem I had is that the fondant was to soft to be painted! Should I let the fondant dry first before painting? I could’ve waited for a while but it was already becoming so soft and sticky. But we made it work and it looked beautiful! I wish I can send a photo here for you. Thanks!! ❤️
I would normally leave a cake to firm up/set over night before decorating but I have painted one straight away before (I am impatient lol). But yes if your cake is very soft, I would allow it to firm up as it does make it easier to paint x x If your on Instagram, then please tag me in your post and I can see (unless it’s a private page) x x
Nauty Little Treats that’s what I thought! But the fondant was kind of melting 😭😭 I don’t have the good photo but I took a photo after we painted and decorated it. My instagram is gezzerreemarie 😊
Hi there x I’ve painted onto small sections of buttercream, but never tried a whole cake before. I’m confident it’s doable, but I would say you would need to be a lot more careful as to not mess the buttercream up x
Hi Fatiha x rejuvenator spirit is a very strong alcohol (not for drinking) which evaporates very quickly leaving no trace/taste x it’s also know as dipping solution x I purchased mine from www.icedjemsshop.com
