O yeah its silly. Its like selling a car without your price " call me " ya ok .. lol I know why people do it I just like comments. Good or bad we can learn from them. Thanks for sharing ! See ! Comments ! hahaa take care bud.
Gw fear any other brand of paints. AK interactive, vallejo, scale 75, abteilung 502 etc = Heresy. (less profit in gw's pockets). Its nice to see Duncan has thrown of the shackles of an ignorant imperium and Kaos ensues
@@ClarkesonTheMarksman nah it's cause GW has alot of trolls just there to be constantly negative, their FB page is full of those kinds and frankly it's tiring luckily for us all Duncan as an individual is free from such people.
When I learned of warhammer, I fell for the Death Guard. I loved the concept and their resiliance. Getting cool paints and minis is impossible in my country, so I made my own miniatures with clay, among them a 30k color scheme death guard. To know it actually exists makes me smile, the video helps me a lot, thanks!
@@savagex466-qt1io hello there! By some fortunate events I stumbled on this video again. Yep, as stated by @Happy-zg4zd I live in Latin America, after some years and responsible purchases I now have a small force of Kill Teams. Among them, after several years, a Death Guard Pallid Hand Kill Team.
@@Happy-zg4zd Yep, this is true. The current starter set is now available in a 8 hour drive, which is a vast improvement from not being in my country before.
Just a warning to everyone: i've used enamel products for several years, keep in mind that this is very different from acrylics, there's habits of licking off a brush during painting, that might be okay for acrylics but is quite toxic for you with enamels. It has fumes that can make you dizzy too, so use good ventilation or an A1 respirator. However, enamels are really fun to use and a great product! You can think of it as a wash, that you can remove away again so it only stays in the recesses, my facorite is the streaking grime from AK. I would recommend Lacquer thinner though for cleaning brushes, and white spirits for thinning paints.
Licking paintbrushes is bad for you (and your brushes) regardless of the medium. Many pigments are toxic, especially in the more interesting paint ranges. Cobalt for example is used in really intense blues, Chromium is used to vibrant reds and yellows. I don't think GW uses them in their paints but better safe than sorry.
As far as cleaning off your brush in your mouth, this is a bad habit taken from GW stores in the 90's that was mixed up. We used to shape the point of the brush in our mouth with our lips, after cleaning it in water to keep the point sharp. I also used to roll the brush in the fold of my palm, under my pinkie finger to shape the point. So we would teach customers to paint as part of the job, but they all thought we were cleaning our brushes in our mouth, and it stuck with them. They passed the habit down, and so on. I remember so many children asking "You eat the paint?" with their face all screwed up in disbelief, as I painted with them. I made sure to point out that the brush should be cleaned with water first when teaching customers how to paint, back then, and I was just making a sharp point on my brush, not cleaning it.
Ok fair enough!. I think you paint the whole model bronze then fill in the blue, if that's the scheme you mean, tried it myself, does work. Easier than trying to paint the trim after the blue!!!
@@markdennis7038 I only realized AFTER I bought them and wanted to paint them for the first time that their color scheme is more "gold with blue details" than "blue with gold trims". I'm getting Retributor Armor spray next time I'm getting anything Thousand Sons(or figuring out how to work an airbrush, whichever comes first).
What we really need is a tutorial from Duncan showing us how to keep our Citadel paint pots that clean. Mine leak all around the edges, especially in the back.
2 👍for using pigments and enamels. Enamels are also far better and easier to use for recess shading. You should also check the Ammo - Mig enamels and oil products especialy the oil brusher is a unique and helpful product. Thanks for the video!
You know what would really transform that model even more? A few hundred bolter rounds of white hot HERETIC PURGE! EDIT: Also, that looked like a really neat job! I love the rust effect! Maybe one day I will use that one some terrain pieces.
For anyone trying this out, I stumbled across a neat little trick with the white spirits: when using it to draw down the rust, you'll get some thin rust enamel at the end of your brush: draw this into the recesses at the bottom of the panel (fortunately, Mark III power armor has these on just about every last part of it). Doing this adds shading in recesses where rust would build up naturally, and it provides areas of very faint rust tint color, basically like a glaze, and it adds subtle but very nice looking variation to the armor. And of course if you don't like how these areas look, the spirits can clean it off too.
Aha! I now know how to use my streaking grime from AK! Doesn't seem to matter how many videos I've watched of people using it (the reason I bought it at all was because of watching other youtubers) I don't think any of them demonstrated the method from making rust streaks as effectively as this. Cheers Duncan!
Even if I ultimately went with a different shade of red (I prefer Mephiston Red to Khorne), your video on the Farsight Enclaves inspired me to start painting Warhammer. Now 4 years later, I have been painting for Battletech and Pike and Shotte. You're the Bob Ross of army painting my man, and thank you so much!
You look really tired in the intro, Duncan. I hope everything is all right on your end. Great content as usual, I especially loved your recent Void Dragon one in the PA!
Another great video. I wasn't expecting to see a mini tutorial for enamels and weathering powders too! I always thought you had to varnish a model before using enamels or oils. I thought the paint underneath could get damaged. I know you put down a gloss varnish for pin-washing but I thought you had to for weathering too?
Awesome video, using this scheme on my marines. I did have one question, what's your take on a colour for the capes, tabards, and cloths that would work well with this scheme?
I was doing some AK Rust streaks on a Terrax/Termite Assault Drill earlier this year. A useful tip I learned for working with enamels and white spirit is to use the little glass dishes that Gü puddings come in (If you don't/can't get Gü where you're from, they're little cheesecake desserts that come in glass ramekins). You buy a big bottle of white spirit from any kind of hardware/painting/DIY shop, and when you're painting you set out dishes full of the stuff. You want one for cleaning, and another one for thinning. You want to use glassware because it's not chemically reactive, which you can't guarantee for any enamelled or glazed ceramic dishes or tiles you might normally use during painting - I ruined the saucer that I used as a pallet this way. The white spirit reacted with the glaze, and it went tacky and horrible
I’d never thought I’d see the day when Duncan would use enamels! One thing that I feel is worth noting, when using enamel paints (especially for washes, maybe less of an issue for streaks), it’s maybe a good idea to paint them onto a glossy surface to make sure they both flow well and can be cleaned off very easily. I think you’d do that with ‘Ardcoat with a brush, I’m not 100% sure as I use an airbrush for that. Amazing work as always!
Hey Duncan, amazing paint scheme! You mention in the video about painting any horns corvid black but you don't mention what else to do with them. How would you finish the horns?
Hi Joshua. We'd use the same colours we used for the other black parts so highlight with Eshin Grey and then add Screaming Skull (a small amount) on the very tips for your final highlight 😊
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA thank you so much for your reply! Absolutely love your work. Just started a DG army so hoping to replicate your scheme (if I can...😅)
Closing in on Christmas, I’m asked for quite a couple Skaven things, Doomwheel, Warp Lightning Cannon, Spiteclaw’s Swarms, Stormvermin, Clawlords (both of them), Clanrats, Grey Seer and Storm Fiends. And I’m planning to paint them all in the style of Clan Mors. Just thought I’d put this here. Also, if you may Duncan, do you ever reckon you could do a Clan Volkn painting video? They’re the coolest Clan visually apart from my boys of Clan Mors, with glowing firery runes and obsidian armour and weapons, and red fur, just look it up on Google. Scritch Spiteclaw would probably be the best one as it’s dynamic, and with the cape you can paint on the Clan Volkn flag.
So... you're not sealing the model BEFORE applying enamels over your acrylics? Or did I just not hear that bit... ? Paint job is amazing either way... just I was always taught to seal/varnish before weathering... find of surprised the white spirits didn't eat into the bone white.
Duncan have you seen the Mr.weathering products In particular the brown stain washes..... They are impossible to get in the UK do you know of any alternatives?
Thank you for this great tutorial! I am currently painting my Death Guard this way. I have a question, though. Some models have a leather strap wrapped around their bolter, and sometimes it wraps around a wooden grip on the underside of the barrel. What colour brown would you recommend for the wooden bolter grip to keep it distinct from the leather strap? Thanks so much! Keep up the good work!
Duncan pls, I've been wanting to paint my Plague marines ever since i bought them, but i can't find a tutorial nor the courage to do it, as i'm pretty noob... Could you show us how to do it, pls? Hugs from Perú!
Love the vid! If I dont have magos purple, what would you reccomend? I have The shyish purple contrast (i thing a little too strong so maybe add some carrobourg crimson) and druchii violet wash, would these work instead?
The thing that surprise me Duncan is your Agrax finish is mat... Each time i used it, i always obtained a satin/gloss finish in the better case (i precise i'm an experienced painter with 25+ years of practice so i always shake my paints and washes very well before to use them). That's why i stopped to use it and i prefer to make a wash from a black/brown paints mix to get a very mat result.
Beginner question : on the tentacles, you cover a lot of seraphim sepia with the kislev flesh. Why don't you base with kislev flesh then wash with seraphim sepia on smaller areas and then do the "gruesome" colors?
I am about to start a Death Guard (Pallid hand) Warband with Captain Typhus leading them. I actually just got Typhus and I am painting him in the Pallid hand paint scheme :-D
Duncan! Ur painting skills are almost as good as NinJon!! NinJon is a bit better coz he loves doggos... do u like doggos Duncan? I hope so #NinJonNumber1
Thank you for this inspiring video! Any tips what colour would go well with pallid hand dg cloth? I was thkinking to use incubi darkness highlighted like a kabalite warrior armour
I think that some Nihilakh Oxide on the brass parts would have been nice. They look pretty clean in comparison to the rest of the model. But apart from that, great job.
I just got the Battleforce box and man, this helps so much. I'm new to the channel but do you have a pallid hand Mortarion video? If not it would be a solid endeavor
duncan, I have an idea for a chaos army, my "christmas chaos" they're blood angels turned nurgle and I really could use some pointers on what to do. I want my base red, layer green and trim silver/iron could you give me some tips on how to work this out? my current colors are mephiston red, death guard green, and leadbelcher any advice you can give me would be appreciated.
I'm painting some of these guys up now, only subbing the green for purple. I like the idea that they see themselves as being regal, even if the rest of the galaxy don't.
I've got a DG kill team and I plan to start building the bigger DG army when the new codex is out and I was thinking on how to pain them. This is a good idea :D might think about the shoulder pads if I don't want them a bit brighter but the rest is perfect
I love the detail on the death guard, and they're my favorite minis to weather. I heavily weather them, cause have they ever cleaned their armor and weapons since the horus heresy.
Any chance you all could do some bright, obnoxiously-pink Emperor's Children anytime soon? :) I want to hurt people's eyes with how bright my miniatures are.
