“Easy for beginners” oh neat that helps, they are the first minis ima get once I have the money to get the starter boxes and have some idea how to paint minis and play table top
@@vyskull2546 Mine is and I like the fact that if I end up messing up freehand especially with orks I can tossed it up with they’re not that intelligent so messy artwork would make sense.
I hope you ended up picking up some death guard! I've always loved nurgle but haven't started tabletop yet, I have a whole army and all the paint supplies on the way for my first army. Can't wait
Just got the discord notification of the upload, can't wait to hear patreon names cuz mines one of them. Edit: I was pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis and I did sort of think I had you. Edit2: I can actually pronounce and spell that (and yes I’m just bragging but it’s true).
As a Chaos fan, I love it, but as a Thousand Son player, my anger is palpable. In all seriousness though, I love your speed painting videos, you make it a fun process to watch, I like the color schemes and methods you use, and I'm always in the mood to paint my own things after I watch you... P.S. PRAISE TZEENCH!!!
Midwinter Minis, your sound quality is just immense. I never realised how difficult it was to understand the mumblings of other channels till now. I know you were in in the music production scene so that know how helps, but your voice comes across crisp and audible without me having to crank up the volume!
Man, when your speed painting looks better than my best efforts lol. Seriously though an excellent tutorial which has given me a few pointers to try on my minis.
You've done really well with your channel Guy been watching since the original Necrons cracked skin tutorial. A warm hello from West Sussex! My son and I have 9 armies between us, one of his is Death Guard and being 16 didn't want to spend too long on painting, you've nailed what most people want - great quick paint jobs. You are underrated for your knowledge of colour palettes and mixing basic paints. Your production quality only gets better too! Good luck to you
I would love to see Grey knights or a description of how you would do it would be great. I so new to model painting but this gives me so much confidence.
I think your limited palette you started the Blackstone Fortress series with is hidden genius. By mixing what you need from these base colors (instead of buying another specialist color) it helps unify not only these Deathguard models but all your models together (that use that set of colors anyway.)
I really appreciate how you make painting so accessible. You dont say, you need this specific green that you'll only use once, you just say grab a green and a brown, mix them up a bit and put it on the model. Also, you're not using a $20 brush, you're using a decent $1 brush. Painting can be easy, fun and affordable if you make it.
This was a fantastic video. The Death Guard are one of my favourite factions. Every video is someones first video and I feel like these are becoming faster. Is it possible to go the earlier format used before where every colour was pointed out? Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
These videos always bring me into the depths of despair. They always look so nice in such a short amount of time, while mine take hours and don’t look near as quality. I’m glad that Guy is teaching people with his cool tricks, I just feel like a failure by comparison lol
You should really start to work with oil washes Guy. I've done a test model for my death guard Kill team and oils cut my working time by a lot (granted, I had 1 day of drying time afterward). Looking forward to the Titan!
I really like do think that you were actually referring to "sticky outbits" at 3:31, as that's very fitting for grimy Plague Marines (and way funnier than "sticky-out bits"). Also, that No Respite joke at 1:01 was funny. I'm still crying because I missed out.
"Death Guard models are *really* great for beginners-" Good to know, they look really intimidating with all the detail and different textures (they're on my list of "try painting at least once" models)
They do have a lot of detail, but, IMO, that makes them the most fun models to paint for me. Plus with all the different colors and stuff going on an average paintjob ends up looking better than it actually is. The Dark Imperium Death Guard units were the second group of things I ever painted (first being Necrons) and I swear those models make up more of my top best painted models than anything else. If you can pick up Dark Imperium, Know No Fear, or First Strike at a good price definitely pick them up. Or the DG side of these boxes. Also the Mephitic Blighthauler Easy-to-Build box is only $25 for a nice lil model that, last I checked, is very good right now. Also consider picking up some Nurgle's Rot to make gross Nurgley puddles on your bases. Painting it over a circle of Caliban Green with Warpstone Glow around the edges of the circle makes a nasty lil puddle of goop.
@@Kottery awesome tips! I’m still relatively new to the hobby, but I’m really trying to dive in because it’s sort of everything I like in one game (art, modelling, and turn-based strategies combat I have yet to get the hang of...)
Honestly, the more detail and more curves on the model, usually means its easier to paint and make look good. Flat panels require more time to paint ironically, because you will notice every single brush mark and every little mistake. It is much easier to notice, say, a speed painted tau vattle suit vs a deathguard pox walker. The eye is easily tricked by multiple focal points, and detail helps cover that. The only difference between what you consider good vs bad with the actual paint job is how much practice you are willing to put in. Just have a go and you will be surprised with what you can achieve with painting.
I did some zombies similar to your Pox Walkers. I found by making a wash with red and blue paint (I don't have purple at the moment) and not fully mixing it I got a really nice effect when I put it on.
Great as usual! Your paint scheme looks amazing. I have always felt the paint scheme for death guard by GW does not make a whole lot of sense. Too neat. Did they suddenly decide to clean and paint their armor? Wouldn't the base color be a faded white from the heresy? Then build up grime and filth with other colors and washes over it?
Goodbye cruel world! :D haha. I use heavy glass shot glasses for batches of minis - you can buy them buy the dozen cheap at dollar stores here in Nova Scotia... the alcoholic & weed smoking capital of Canada. When you coming to visit?
@@anurglingwithinternetacess4622 xmas is coming up mate 😉😉😉 I got a timber tech set with airbrush, various needles, etc. Really great tool for what.... Eighty euros? I can understand that you'd rather stick that money into models hehe. Happy hobbying!
I've been revisiting some of these earlier videos lately trying to sort out how to do this for Khorne and Black Legion marine colors. It's been really illuminating.
I wanted to say thank you SO much for this guide. I just finished my first 1k list of models and this was the first time I've painted any models. They may be rough, but they're mine.
Hey Guy, I am just getting into Warhammer and would like to see how you would paint a Tau model, as I am inexperienced at painting and I am scared of the "Vior'la" Sept white color scheme. Your videos always make it looks so easy and your models come out awesome even though you do them quickly! I know your going to have your hands more than full with the Titan, but perhaps maybe some day you can do one of the fishys. Looking forward to the titan!
Very original colors, I don't think I've seen anyone do this kind of take on the traditional DG. Those green and bronze work really well together, I like how the whole model looks drab and kinda monotone in line with BSF's style but actually still has color variety to it.
Hey guy, you always do an amazing job with darker colors and models. I challenge you to paint something in white like white scars or yellow like imperial fists. Both of these colors are known to be tough. Are you up for the challenge?
Hey Guy, i've got a quick question. I just watched your battle report and couldn't help but notice your Ork wyrdboy was looking quite fancy. Is he a kitbash, because I couldn't find him on the GW store or anywhere else online. If not could you please tell me where you got him. Like the paintjob btw😁
You were the reason I decided to start putting money towards things on patreon, so glad my measly donation of a cup of tea a month has helped you gain a big boi titan. Watching this has seriously made me consider getting back into painting 40k again, you make it seem so accessible :)
Nice work! I loved doing my first strike set. Next up is that lil starter set with the necromancy. Just fun to test out models and have a little skirmish set to pull out for quick fun games 👍🏼
I adore watching yours and others channels and always keep thinking how much I would like to start in this hobby , but the more I watch painting and building vids , even what you consider to be a very basic paint job is as far away from my abilities as climbing 🧗 Everest without a Sherpa , oxygen and stark naked. It would just be a total waste of money for me coz everything would end up in the bin 😁 so I will just stick to watching and enjoying others skills
Interesting that you prefer to thin paints "manually" rather than use a wet palette. I'm on my 4th box of minis and still can't decide if I get on with a wet palette.
I have to say that you are a big reason that I finally decided to dive into Warhammer 40k, I absolutely love the painting tutorial videos! Given the current covid situation, learning how to - and trying myself! - paint the minis has been a great respite. Keep up with the awesome videos!
I love the way you do your speedpaint. And yeah you just inspire me to put my miniatures and paint as good as i can, without being afraid to make to bigs mistakes. It take some more time to paint my minis, but everyone tells me that my minis look quite hilarious for the beginning ☺️
Thank you for making this easy-to-follow painting guide I have been struggling to paint my miniatures lately and thanks to this it's made it so much better
I'm actually getting a few minis in soon. A combo of Birthday and Christmas cash bonus before Black Friday sales (WOOT). I'll be re-watching your back catalog while painting those up to refresh my mind on those forgotten tips. When not listening to the Death by Dice play list.
For some of my death guard plague marines, I have used your guide on the black legion and I think it worked quite well! I have just replaced the black metal paint with a mix of death guard green and gunmetal and the result is really nice in my opinion. It gave a nice metallic shine to the green armor. These are really nice too! Thank you for these videos. I have enjoyed every single one of them! I hope you keep them coming. Cheers from Belgium!
You got the crazy long name but failed on A A Ron lol. Check out Key and Peele for reference. Congrats on all the new Patrons and for getting the Big Boy.
I'm always really jealous how he can paint a colour over a primer and it solid straight away. Every time I paint, every colour I use always goes on streaky. 😭
“There are a few dangly bits you should be aware of while assembling because you could easily damage them” meanwhile I ripped these suckers off the sprue with no damage to the model (I didn’t have clippers at the time)
Goddamn Guy, please just clean out the rim of your flash gitz yellow, zandri dust, mechanicus standard grey. They really look horrible. Just use a hobby knife and clean the rim. Great Tutorial as always tho.
Awesome.. look so good.. def gonna follow this guide on my poxwalkers..Absolutely luuurve ur painting guides...😁👍. more please sir!! And cant wait for the Titan.
I find the official paint scheme for post heresy death guard is abit boring, I like their 30k paint scheme and even my own stuff like painting their HQ units to have a deep red left army minus the shoulder pad and special weapons guys get a line down their helmet
Okay, i have two Question: Do you have any experiences with the Royal Purple from Vallejos Model Color Range? I bought one a few Month ago and it looks much lighter to me, than my old Game Color Royal Purple I bought somewhere around 2007 or so. Second Question: How good/bad would you describe the Undead Flesh from the Game Color Range? A few Paint Conversion Charts describe it as an alternative to Death Guard Green.
