applying the paint onto the edger with a brush instead of dipping it into a tray is a game changer. Thanks for the tip.

I just put my drywall knife between my roller and the ceiling. I cut off the corners of the knife so it doesn't hang up. Use it on trim too. Pretty fast. Nothing crazy.

I’ve used the Edger tool but quickly returned to using a good-quality angled brush. The Edger doesn’t get close enough to the ceiling. You will end up with a thin strip of old paint color between the ceiling and the new wall color. If you repaint the ceiling and bring the paint down on the wall a bit before using the Edger on the walls it should be okay. With just a little practice, the Edger is easy to use. Me, I’ll stick to to my angled brush.

Brush loading the pad is the best way. Don’t try to get to far with a loaded pad as it will get too thin for good coverage which is a common problem when cutting in. Prefer the hard to find square cut sash brushes as you can reverse direction with a twitch of the wrist.

Oh my god you saved me so much time!!! Thank you so much! I have been rushing to paint my bedrooms before I get carpet installed. Using a brush it took me over 2 hours to cut in a single bedroom. Today, I finished cutting in 2 rooms in under 1 hour using an edger! Also, I confirm that painting the pad with a brush is the most effective way to load the pad. Dipping the pad doesn't load it nearly enough and doesn't give uniform coverage. Using your brush on method I was able to edge about 12'+ of wall with one pass. Also, keeping the little wheels clean of paint is definitely a skill that I am sure I will master. I had to stop several times to clean them off. It's easy to get paint on the wheels if you don't pay attention when painting corners.

I've been using the paint edger for years and it saves me a ton of prep time as well as the lines are perfectly straight. Keeping the wheels and guide clean of paint is definitely key to this nifty gadget. Years of experience using it I've learned to touch lightly at surface of paint tray verses brushing paint on. Wish someone would've advised me that little paint on the applicator goes a long way with the bristles.

Hello, I have been so incredibly lucky to have found you and your videos. I own several homes and have been gutting and renovating them, hence a ton of painting, inside and out. Your information has been so beneficial, from color choices thru the placement of each room's lighting (northern, southern, east, or west sunlight). I could go on, but........ please keep informing us on the technical (how, when, why) of painting! Your excellent at what you do, and your videos are entertaining while educating us non-professionals.

Good advice about getting the paint onto the pad. It makes obvious sense but I haven't seen this before in an edging video. I'm thinking it might work to use a 4" roller to apply the paint to the pad and then smooth out the applied paint with the roller too.

That roller trick seems viable, especially in situations where you wouldn't want paint on a brush solely for application, if you wouldn't otherwise need it.

There's also one other advantage to using an edger no one ever mentions. One coat and you're done edging, which most of the time isn't the case if you're using a brush. This gives a huge advantage to using the edger vs a brush. Those tiny bristles leave no peak a boos like a brush often does.

I 1 Im going to try this once. My thought is, it is for newbies and HOs. The time it takes to use a paint brush to put paint on it is time that can be spent getting it on the wall. Unless I can get several feet, as far as I can reach from the ladder before moving the ladder. Otherwise, instead of being on a ladder with just a brush and paint pale, now I got a third item with paint, with me on a ladder 2. You don't need tape if you got a straight line, if you don't have a straight line, use a paint knife. 3. Has anyone tried this? How far can you get on one pass? 4. I generally don't use a brush for my lines. 5. 5. When using a brush, you don't want to hold it vertically or horizontally, you want it at an angle, the corner of the brush pointing to the ceiling, you'll get about six to 12 inches, then flip the brush and go back the other way because the other side is still loaded. A. Use a good brush, they cost more and are worth it. B. You may find and angle brush will be helpful when at the corners. C. When you just loaded the brush, don't go right to the edge, go a 1/4 down and about the same from the corner,, because the brush will have too much paint on it, do a small pass to rid some paint then cut in.

I have been using this tool for probably 15+ years myself and I have turned everyone who ever paints onto it, as well. It is the absolute fastest easiest and cleanest way to edge, I don’t care what anyone says. Come at me bro! LOL I’m actually getting ready to completely spray a house that we just purchased but I am going to go through and edge everything out as I typically word and then use a cardboard blocker to prevent ceiling overspray instead of going through and hand masking over my head with tape and paper and a masking gun taking 5x longer for the same result. I just can’t do it when working by myself. But I prefer the finish and speed of spraying. If it doesn’t work well in the first room, I guess I’ll go back to rolling. But really hopeful that this process can work efficiently with little mess.

So this edger is alright. It is not all that great as described in this video. The comment section of this video over-exaggerates the edger. . I strongly believe that these guys were paid to make this video. There is no way that you can cut an entire room in 5 minutes. It is more like 30 minutes to 1hr. With a brush it will take 5 more minutes compared to the edger. Pros: it is easy. I will prefer an edger over brush in rental properties. Con: not all that time consuming as exaggerated in this video. Not worth using for private properties.

It really depends on the depth of the texture. If it's especially rough, the line won't be as smooth as you'd want it. In most cases, you'd need to clean up the finish line with a brush afterwards.
