Bethany, I find the real time with voice over soooo much more helpful as a tutorial than the time lapse videos! Thank you for taking the time to do this for us! I love hearing your thoughts as well as instruction along with being able to actually see what type strokes and marks you are making! Thank you! And please keep creating these real time tutorials! Real time makes ALL the difference!
I totally agree with you. I hope to find more real time tutorials with Bethany. I've just discovered her and she is lovely and very informative with wonderful painting tips and finished art work.
Thank you so much for sharing with all of us and taking time out of what I'm sure are very busy days for you. The sound is fabulous and I always learn so much when an artist shares their thinking process.
Your voice is an important part of your teaching medium as an artist, so the least I can say is thank you for adding your wisdom and gentle spirit. Good day!
Thank you for the info, I like the combination of using the pipe insulation for background shrubs and the alcohol treatment for the foreground underpainting. Great idea. I learned a lot.
Thank-you so much for this video! It was very helpful...and the sound was perfect! I really like these short video clips and your scrap paper demos. Your art is beautiful. I just sent my daughter the link and I have subscribed.
Bethany, I truly learn so much watching you paint. Thank you so much for showing us, you're a great teacher! Really beautiful and explanations are awesome! Have you thought of Patreon?
Hi Crystal! And thank you! YES, I just joined over there in January! :) It's been fun. If you'd like to check it out here is the link: www.patreon.com/bethanyfields
Beautiful and loved the voice instruction. Do you mind sharing what type of camera, lighting and device you use to hold your camera? Not only are your paintings lovely, but your video production is equally as well done.
HI Susan! Thank you very much! I have been around video and camera equipment all my life, mostly in front of the camera as an actor and performer. :) I'm going to do an upcoming episode about my equipment and will also be putting resources on my blog. Thank you for the nice words and for watching!
Hi Bethany, After working in watercolor and acrylics I've decided to try pastels in hopes of not creating muddy messes. :) Anyway, love following your channel and was wondering if you could show the finished piece so I could get a screenshot, printable copy to reference. Thanks and keep up the beautiful work cindy
I'm painting along with you and learning so much. My birthday is coming up and I have lots of stick pastels. Mostly Rembrandt and Nupastels. My husband is asking what I want for my birthday. I want pastels! What brand would you suggest. I like doing an underpainting with darker pastels and rubbing alcohol. Some of the Rembrandts I feel are a bit too hard. What brand would you suggest for your technique where they are soft enough to let the underpainting show through with a light touch. I know he will get me a partial set ($300 or so) of whatever I want. Thanks in advance. Just love your work.
Hi Linda! Thank you so much for the kind words. Your husband sounds like a keeper! :) Here is a resource page on my blog where I detail my different favorite products. www.bethanyfieldsblog.com/resources/ I particularly love the Terry Ludwig brand! I would love to hear what you decide! :)
Hi, Bethany, thanks so much for your videos! I wanted to ask you why you are not wearing any protections for your hand skin such as gloves or fingers cover etc? Do you think that the most ganger from the chemical ingredients of pastel is not to breath with the pastel dust? I am a beginner in pastel, and I really feel uncomfortable working with covered fingers, but I wanted to ask your opinion first before I take off my gloves :-) thanks in advance for the answer.
I dislike the feeling of gloves so don't use them unless I have a cut on one of my fingers. I wipe and wash my hands often to protect them and also use a barrier cream. I don't ever blow on my pastels and wet-clean it off of surfaces to prevent (as much as possible) it becoming air borne. Thank you for asking!
Thanks again for your videos and this response, I actually was wondering about the barrier cream, do you think it helps as much as much it helps from the oil paints?
I guess you could, but then you'd be creating alcohol inks, which are already available! :) I've seen some videos here on RU-vid of people creating their own alcohol ink. Let me know if you try it!
