I love painting furniture and I'm desperate to do my wooden fire surround. Think I'm just going to go for it when my husbands not home and its too late lol
Did you do it? What was husbands reaction. I’d love to do mine, but I have a really difficult husband who trashes every idea I come up with. I currently have a nice lounge full of light oak furniture, soft grey furnishings and then this dark mahogany! fire surround that he won’t let me change! It’s so annoying as it doesn’t go with anything 😩
@@karencarter7925 Fleetwood Bloxit-It Oil Based Primer..... then used Satinwood paint. You just have to make sure that everything is done in heat resistant paint (if the fireplace has a wood burner or is a working coal fireplace).
I just found this video and I’m taking notes on all this and gotta see where to purchase the primer & paint as I have everything else and I’m gonna too paint it while hubby is away! 👀 I hope yours turned out great girl because we haven’t heard anything 😬 I’ll definitely get back with y’all on mine, just give me awhile to get the paint & primer as that’s important I get all the right stuff beforehand and let y’all know as soon as I get done! Wish this girl luck y’all 😉 Ha Ha
Question… I want to sand the mantle down to bare wood and will be painting the rest. My question is what finish should I use on the bare mantle??? I want it just to show off the beauty in the wood. This is a working fireplace with back boiler which is used to heat home
Hi, I have a wood surround that was waxed, I covered it with Zinsser Bin but unfortunately it has bleed through so I have taken it all off sanded the wood and scrubbed it with detergent to get off as much as possible. I would love to paint it white but I’m worried that it will happen again! Could you advice me please. Is the product you used a stain blocker? Thank you.
Yes bloxx it is an oil based primer and blocker. There is alsdo the shellac version called Terminator... Both by fleetwood. If you think you see a bleed through the primer... Go ahead anyway... It usually doesn't come through to the paint once the primer is on.
This info is great thanks. I have the exact same fireplace and want to do it. Is this colour an actual white or does it come up darker (looks v. white on the video, which is what I want)
Great video, well explained and great result, I have pine doors in the sitting room and kitchen area . I have bought block It , paint for the primer, Which is oil based. And I bought eggs shells paint for the finish coat , which is water based, Is it ok to used water based finish over , the oil based primer, ? Thanks 🙏
Shop around antique salvaged shops for 19th Century Victorian Cast Iron fireplace inserts, I found one for $1,450.00 just like this but look in around your area and flea markets, Oh and find a Habitat for Humanity Restores as they have great deals that are affordable. Hope this helps ya to find your beautiful fireplace insert. ♥️
