In this video, I show you how I paint a little bird called a nuthatch. This video is my January watercolour painting tutorial, though I posted it the first week of February, better late than never :) Learn how to use wet into wet washes, and wet on dry washes to build up the detail and create a realistic watercolour bird without overworking your paint. Such a lovely painting. The colours blend beautifully together. I enjoyed watching this little Nuthatch come to life. With your step by step instructions, even though I'm a beginner, I feel like I can give it a try. Thank you for the inspiration and guidance.

Thanks for the feedback Shelley! Yes creating realistic watercolours doesn't have to take hours and involved tons of layers. I just don't have the patience for it. Lol I would love to see what you create. Happy painting 💕

Beautiful painting of one of my favourite birds, Laura, and thanks for doing this in real time. Your close-ups are really excellent: even though I don't have all the colours you're using, I think I can make something similar because I can see them easily. Also, being so close allows us to see your tiny brush strokes (more than I would have expected!) and where you're leaving the highlights. Thanks also for letting us know what brush numbers you're choosing. I feel I learned some very useful things from this video that I can use in other paintings too. 😊

I want to try this cute bird. I really like the idea of the blending of the colors. I think I can do this and will give it a try. After I paint it (the first time), I'll give feedback on whether it was too hard for me.

Thanks Janet!! I really appreciate it, it's a very fun project. You could try the first week was on a scrap piece of paper and see how long it need to sit to draw in those soft edges first, then start into the bird . That will give you some practice first before starting the good copy 🐱
