@@Zorpazorp no prob! Another thing i really love about these pieces is how unabashedly bold the logo is. The compulsion/impulse to be subtle, or sneaky about the logo could be there, (and I'm sure some folks doing the shopcolours challenge will make some AMAZING subtle logo-chapter insignias) but your use of their logo as is, is perfectly in line with how goofy and fun WH40K can be! I think it adds a dash of Frivolity to a scene that is otherwise grim, dark, and relativly realistic!

Mine isn't made with a sponge, but a chic cloth sitting in water. Creates the same effect, and the higher tub gives me somewhere to rest my hands while filming :)

@@Zorpazorp Nice, I look forward to it :) (Also bit of a random anecdote if you've got a minute or two) I'm really, really new to the hobby- as in, Indomitus will be my first box ever- so all the people I've met in the local community have been like "oh cool, what chapter are you going to paint your Space Marines", to which I responded " ...uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhUUUUUUUHHHHHH-"(at which point I basically devolved into an indecisive seizure). Was puzzling over it for ages... What damn chapter do I want? Then something hit me. My friend had been trying to show me warhammer lore for quite a while, but I was mostly confused and scared off by how complicated it was and how much common sense everyone in the universe seemed to lack. "Why don't they just blow up all the planets of those guys, then?!" I'd ask. "Uhhh... I'm not really sure," my friend would say, "but you get a lot of really cool fights!" "You just talked for ages about how super ridiculously strong these guy's armour is, but an Ork knife just went straight through it, how does that even work?" I'd say. "Uh... Everything's OP, so it just kinda... Cancels out...? I don't know, but you get some really cool battles!" He'd say. I thought he just meant more of the history of the universe "this big fight happened back when and stuff went down", so I wasn't too interested. But then, Astartes part 5 dropped. And my friend went " ohhh I never showed you that, watch this series quickly." Holy. CRAP. Was it good. I basically fell in love with the universe straight-up, found out there was a tabletop, thought "ohhhh yeah screw proper physics those battles are pretty damn cool" and was looking to get into playing before the day was out. So here I was, trying to decide on a chapter, when I remembered those videos. Went back and watched them. Damn, I actually really like how simple their colour scheme is, I thought. Grey and gold... I actually kinda love that. And the veterans and high-ups get white helmets and armour? Straight up love that. Could I just... Base my army off these guys? Turns out I could. Apparently they're called the 'Retributors', and the creator of Astartes made a big info sheet for people who were asking for lore and painting details. I loved the hell out of how efficient and badass they were in the series, and basically just said "yep, I'm doing these guys." "Waaaaiiit f**k I don't know how to paint." This led to me looking for a good tutorial for complete beginners, and finding Goobertown Hobbies' masterpiece of an introduction. Few weeks later, found your Judiciar tutorial. Don't feel nearly as terrified of beginning as I once was. And would you look at that, turns out the very next video is a collaboration painting one of my favourite-looking units 😅 Sorry to ramble for ages, but in summary- you and Brent have been seriously helpful, I cannot tell you how much easier it's made beginning. I'm planning to paint up a force of grey-gold-highlighted marines based off that gorgeous short film series whenever the box arrives, and I know for a fact I'll be relying heavily on the both of you to guide me through that with your videos. Thank you heaps again for the awesome content, and wish me the best of luck, cause I'm gonna need it 😂 love the channel and I'm looking forward to more awesome stuff in the future. @@Zorpazorp very! Although i dont have all the tools and paints you do, that mixture early on is definitely something i want to do. I've got a rad story for my custom chapter too!

You absolutely can! Because I was painting for a top light, it didnt affect this model much because the folds and ripples are all vertical, creating very little shadowing, but if you have a more angled or side light source you could make it a bit more dramatic!

I'm not sure! Maybe it was a brighter base, did you use water or medium as the thinner?

Yeah that's a bit of a meme ;) It's not white, it's grey. Good for what it's used for but it's garbage for white armour. You have to spend a bunch of extra effort to make it look good for white armour than is necessary. I did a whole video on it in my Clone Trooper paint guide.

It will go all splotchy and won't spread properly giving you a nice gradient :)

Hey Michael I use this chart to conver between brands www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart :)

Wet Palette keeps the paint fro mdrying, and adds a little bit of moisture allowing me to thin it more easily :)

Just thin it a bit more if you want it lighter :)
