I actually used one of your paintings as a reference for a school project about warm colours your painting really cought my eye (the one with an orange cat sleeping on a chair), now months later, as i was looking for tips to see as to how i can paint cats better because i always wanted to be able to (cuz i love cats so much), here you are, it feels a bit unreal, i never would have expected to find you here, but your artworks are gorgeous and your skills are amazing. I hope one day to reach that level as well! Thank you so much for all these tips! I'll try learning from you. ♡
Rachel, thank you so much! I've been doing commission work for 8 years now but I seldom get cat orders. Your art is always so soft and beautiful! Thank you so much Stacey! I can't believe you don't get cat orders. They are one of the most requested things for me. But, right now, my next commissions in the pipeline include a wedding portrait, a dog, a rooster, and a dock, lol, so there is a lot of variety!
First of all, Sadie steals the show from you, LOL! I don't paint water color, I do acrylics...but your tips are terrific! Most all of them can be applied to any cat portraits. Your paintings are simply amazing, so creative and beautiful. Thank you for this helpful video!

I’m just at the start of my watercolour journey and just starting my research on best colours to buy to start. I know I’m going to want to paint my horses, dog and cat down the track so I’ll want to choose colours for this purpose. Love your videos. Thank you 😊

I just wanted to go beyond what I have painted and paint my tabby cats. I had not clue and was scared of how to do the stripes all different shades of dark brown. Your wet on wet stripes looks so good!

Grids - NO WAY JOSE 😢 Love the video. For those of us who work and don’t have a ton of time to paint, it’s really impossible to pay for a Patreon for any of you that have those. It would take me a long time to paint anything. I only see this in the watercolor painting community really, this everyone having a Patreon, the five dollars a month times a few people ends up getting expensive for those of us who can’t paint all the time. Maybe one day I get to retire and have extra money, and I can pay for a Patreon.
I totally get it. I always say, if money is the object to you watching any of my content, just message me and I'll share with you! But Patreon is a lifesaver for someone like me who wants to make a living at painting and there is no other way to do it other than figuring out a way to make a liveable (barely) income spending my days painting instead of spending my days using my college degree.
Thanks for all the tips 🐈 I recently volunteered to paint people's pets for a Humane Society benefit and I don't normally paint pets I do landscapes so I had to do a lot of RU-vid looking up the best ways to paint cats thank you for all the wonderful tips it really has helped me bring life to the 2 watercolors I have done so far working on the third one now

For the greenish gold eyes I love Winsor Green Gold, a touch of permanent green light, sometimes a tiny bit of burnt sienna to tone the color down just a little. I am sure I'll do a cat's eyes videos sometime soon!
I love your tutorial! I found a video on photo shop that shows you how to change the opacity so that it makes an outline you can use without having to trace it by hand. It is in one of the 'help tutorials' from adobe (sorry don't remember link). I googled it: How do you automatically trace an image in Photoshop? Part 1 Setting Up the Image to Trace Open the image you want to trace in Photoshop. ... Click on Layer in the menu bar. Click on Duplicate Layer… and click on OK. ... Click on the duplicate layer in the "Layers" window. ... Click in the "Opacity:" field in the upper-right of the Layers window. Set the opacity to 50%

Funny you should ask - I'm about to release a video about masking. If you look up masking fluid you'll find it. It's like a liquid plastic you paint on your white paper, let it dry, then it will protect the whites of the paper until you remove it near the end of the painting process. I use it a lot for whiskers.
