A few years ago while traveling for work was in a hotel room with clouds painted on the ceiling. Loved the effect. So calming. Always wanted to do that at my house but didn't have the knowhow. Thanks to you videos I'm gonna give it a shot.
Yep. I did that to several of my cheap brushes too. I got ones that weren't thick, and cut into the bristles holding my scissors in such a way that it cut straight into the bristles, with short, quick cuts. I've seen hair salon places do it to their customer's hair! They are great for painting grasses and animal hair, etc! Thanks for the download!!
Thanks so much for this video. I'm moving into a new loft apartment with 16 ft cathedral ceilings and doind this is an absolute must. Im going to get out my Baker scaffold from harbor freight, put the wheels on it, and roll myself around, laying on my scaffold and painting clouds. It's gonna look so great, and you almost can't mess this up. Im soooo looking forward to this.
Holy cow, this looks amazing. I was hoping this would be easier to do. But apparently it helps if you truly have artistic ability. I sure hope I can pull this off. Thanks for the helpful instruction Joe.
Perfect, I'm always seeing the clouds and it fascinates me to no end at the multitude of combinations the sky presents, it's an ever changing canvas of art. Thank you
Going to do this in my new studio under construction in the main space with the sloped ceiling. I'm thinking of doing a starry night theme in the small hallway with the the barrel vault. The hard part is going to be getting the lighting just right, after the painting of course!
I loved it !!! Thanks you Joe ! Happy New Year to you and your family and everyone watching and reading this , " Um maravilhoso e próspero 2020 "are my whishes from Brazil !!
Now if you can make your floor look like you are standing in a shallow mountain river, we would have my ultimate room to spend time in. Good stuff Joe.
That's definitely a toupee! It looks like someone tried to put it through the washer and dryer, though. Hahaha! What a great effect it makes! Always love your work. So impressed by your technique!
I am a dormant artist. It has been almost 10 years since, I last picked up a brush. I have always admired and studied Caravagio, Tinian, Leonardo, and Michelangelo. I have always wanted to do a ceiling. I have this bedroom that needed some work so here , I go. That urge to paint came back. I must ask. Do you have any artist of inspiration.
Wow... that's exactly what I'm going for...but quieter. Can you come over? Lol. Had an artist paint the ceiling on my Victorian houses porch... Now I want to try it myself in my bedroom...thank you
Did I miss something? What color did you use for the shadows? Is it gray, or a blend of gray and blue? I did a cloud ceiling a few years ago, but I'm not satisfied with it yet. I want a more realistic look. I've having problems with getting the shadows done correctly, and on the right place. I like the idea of wetting the area first. Do you use a faux glazing medium mixed in your paint or an extender to slow the drying time?
previous owners of my house added a lovely white textured wallpaper to the ceiling, I want to keep them like that but i also want clouds on my ceiling, do you think that i would be able to achieve that even with the textures. By textures i mean patterns with indents.
Mirandas Painting C33 CSLB C#851159 was here. this video is awesome sir we love it amd will be applying the techniques you have shared in the field. 1🤙
Hi there Evgeni. I use oils for canvas paintings when I really want to go slower on the details and get a softer more blended look. Oils also leave behind more attractive brush texture in my opinion. I rarely use oils though since I can accomplish my purposes acrylics most of the time.
Yes, the ceiling was textured and painted already. Smoothing over it just allows me to make a more realistic sky without texture shadows in it. But it's not necessary.
@muraljoe You TOTALLY make me want to paint clouds on the ceiling for my daughter and myself. Honest admission I have 0 patience and 0 skill & talent. I found removable peel and stick cloud wallpaper and am wondering if that would be a good idea for a person like myself? Also I would really like to have an effect of the night sky with stars when the lights are turned off. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Joe, I recently saw your video with the painting of Jesus coming out of the tomb and I was wondering if it would be ok for me to paint that for my church. I don’t know what the rules are on how to give you credit for the original design, but if it’s ok for me to try and reproduce I would.
