Beautiful work again sir, you're an inspiration. Thank you for sharing. Do you always paint classic, natural clouds? It'd be interesting to see how an artist handles the layering and buildup of the wispy, trail-y, hazy 'clouds' of today's geoengineered skies. That's my focus for future skyscapes.

It's beautiful! Would love to do this in sunset colours... But working with multiple colours, would be more complex and which natural order would the colours appear?! Would seem easier to just do it in shades of blue, using white highlights. I think I asked you about this a long time ago...

Thank you :-))) Go and find some photo reference - making up a whole new light situation on your own without any support by photo reference is extremely difficult...I would not dare to do so even after 30 years of painting...you will be able to tell that it somehow looks not "real" when you try to mock it up straight from your imagination

Excellent as always! A question if I may; do you use photos (of the clouds) for reference or design them from memory, imagination? Thanks in advance.
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 6 месяцев назад
Thank you :-))) I use photo reference as a guide, almost always, for every single painting. WAY easier than trying to mock up a whole scene...you very often can tell if people use reference or not, almost all artists tend to fall into the habit to repeat a certain painting pattern when they do not use photo reference. And that`s what I try to avoid by using a good photo to draw and refer to.

A lesson I've learn't watching your cloud painting, is that clouds infact have so many colours. Greys,whites,blues ect. I had a common misconception that they were mostly white.. Thankyou! Ps what's some of your favourite scenery painting you like to do?
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 6 месяцев назад
Yes, that`s what all beginner painters believe, clouds are white...and fuzzy...and that`s about it...but there goes MUCH more into a good cloud painting ;-) I really do love clouds and water, also human beings although they do horrible on my channel...perhaps in general here on RU-vid, I don`t know ;-)

What kind of primer do you use? In the beginning of the video
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 5 месяцев назад
This is linseed oil...I use primed hdf plates (high density pressed wood plates) that suck up the oil in the colour VERY quickly...would I not oil out the surface of this plate the colour would dry way too quickly and I would not have the time to blend properly.
@ValentinaSmirnova9

@susancurelop9649 4 месяца назад
What did you paint on the canvas before the colors? 7:56
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 4 месяца назад
The colourless liquid? This is linseed oil, this seals the painting surface. I use here not a canvas, I use a high density plate that is primed...and these plates really suck the oil of the colours in like crazy...in applying the linseed oil before I extend the drying time which would be drastically reduced would I just start to paint on the plate without using the oil before.

Clouds are still kind of mystery for me, same goes for water but i am betting better on those atleast.
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 6 месяцев назад
Clouds do look easy to paint...and they "somehow" are when you keep certain things in mind...but people very often forget to put in the volume, all the different colours and most of all - never use a pure white for clouds...they are NOT white!! Some sunlit parts may be nearly white but most of the rest is NOT!
@varjovirta3085
@varjovirta3085 6 месяцев назад
@@brennerfineart Values are hard yes, and nope nothing is purely white or black in realism any media . I think values is not issue but clouds are so formless and indefinable.
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 6 месяцев назад
@@varjovirta3085 that`s the amazing thing about them! They can come in all kinds of shapes, forms, sizes and colours - an extremely broad spectrum. And therefore, although it may sound a bit weird, they are highly difficult to just mock them up without any reference. At least one where you can get the light situation from...starting completely from scratch without any help is really extremely difficult.
@Tore1972Wisdom
@Tore1972Wisdom 6 месяцев назад
It´s interesting that you don´t use grey tones and mix them up with cool and warm colors. The colors are very blue and to me it´s not that realistic. Don´t get me wrong, it looks great, but i have never in me life seen so bluish clouds. Storm clouds are very dark and blue/purple, but there is also many grey tones.
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 6 месяцев назад
Yes, it looks a bit artificial, fully agreed. But that`s the freedom that comes when you paint ;-) I like to explore the limits or go beyond the limits and that`s what I basically did here, using just not the usual kind of colours.
@Tore1972Wisdom
@Tore1972Wisdom 6 месяцев назад
@@brennerfineart* Okay that make sense. Of course we have to try different things out. That´s how we learn. I´m still in the process of being better at painting realistic clouds. Actually i don´t think we ever reach the point where we can say, we reached the goal. You are a pretty skilled artist, that i know.
@brennerfineart
@brennerfineart 6 месяцев назад
@@Tore1972Wisdom right!!! Larry Elmore (a fantasy artist, one of my heroes when I started to paint with the intention of becoming a full time fantasy illustrator) once said "you will not learn to paint in four years or six years or sixty years" - and that is true..as we progress our own expectations go up and we basically are never 100% satisfied with what we paint. Even though it may be lightyears better now then it was when we started to paint. And that is soooo true :-))) but art is a life long journey...its not a "when will I reach my goal" kind of thing ;-)))
