I just finished a cat on velour and found pastel pencils impossible to use...after I got a layer of medium soft pastel down (Richeson just glided beautifully on it) it was not bad but it was still hard...I am hoping the square shape pastels I just bought will work better...eyes are hard to do without the pencils, especially on size A4 which is what I tend to do. Not exactly sure how you were able to get it on their so effortlessly

Yes it's certainly not effortless to apply the pencils on velour. Darker colours, no problem. Light colours are more difficult. That's why I work as much as I can with the sticks. And a lot of the time the small details around eyes, noses etc are with a dark pencil. In time you get a feel for the velour and what it will allow you to do. Some hard sticks are also useful, again especially black.

Hi Emma. I love to watch you work. I bought some of the same brand pastel pencils. I'm having a hard time finding a sharpener that works. Can you tell me what you use to sharpen your pencils? Thank you

From the look of her pencils, they are sharpened by a knife.

Hi Linda, I ususally do sharpen with a scalpel or knife. As you can see from the shape of my pencils I'm not very neat about it! But it does the job and I can finely tune the point as I need to without breaking the lead which is easily broken.
