The pace of the video is perfect. Enough detail to understand but fast enough to not drag. The lighting is great and the framing works well for a mix of detail but showing enough of the piece for context. Clearly a lot of effort on your part
I find this video quite intuitive and even relaxing to watch. Your finished product came out gorgeous and clean. I particularly liked your technique for the chest plate gem icon and creating that illusion of translucency.
Pacing, detail, and also the fact that you slow down and show certain aspects of what's going on brush wise in good detail! I wish I could give you more of a reason for the intuitive nature of it but its hard to describe. Also the color and quality of the video is super high. Good structure to the whole video too. The steps all make sense. Like the calm music as well.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record. As everyone else stated the pacing is perfect, music is solid choice, you showed the process very thoroughly and neatly. Only thing I can think of potentially adding is maybe adding in the same video your basing process but that's not even a critique since you link the basing video at the end lol. Seriously though grade A work man. Definitely gonna recommend you to friends.
On the topic of custom mixes: when you find a mix you like, buy whatever paint you need to mix your own in mixing pot. I did this for my Custodes and it is 1000% worth the effort to mix my own pot so I don't have to worry about color matching at all down the road.
Absolutely! This is great advice for sure. I have a number of “exclusive Brushstroke” colours for exactly this reason. 👍🏻 Same goes for washes. I have pots of pre-thinned shades and contrast colour to the ratio I like to make it quick and easy to get the same result over and over
The progression of the channel from those first painting guides on FB through to the well crafted YT videos has been fun to watch (and educational - but keep up the stage by stage Instagram photos, they're awesome. Congrats on the follower milestone. In the unlikely event I win, it would hae to be the Chaos Knights
Absolutely FANTASTIC colours. Gave me the final push to Start a HH Emperors Children project i'd been putting off for ages. QUICK TIP for those like me who couldn't/cant get their hands on the S75 and ProAcryl paints for the purple: Citadel Genestealer Purple over a white undercoat comes out pretty similar to this. It isn't a perfect match, but still looks alright.
You're painting guides have always been enjoyable to watch. I always pick up new techniques or ways to approach different areas of a model. Thanks for the time you spend creating these videos. In your contest, I'd choose the King Brodd model. Thanks again!!
Im have been watching your vids since my first tries painting… they help me alot! Im very happy that you have reached the 20k subs! So deserved! I would love to try painting the Chaos Knights! Hopefully Im lucky enough ;)
Mad congrats on the 20k mate that’s an awesome achievement! This is a beautifully painted mini, love the contrast of colours and the clarity of your explanations! Here’s to the next 20k! Chaos Knights would be my preference please if I’m lucky enough to be picked, best of luck to everyone in this awesome community!
Your tutorials have helped me so much in learning how to paint in an efficient and smart way. Love the process of sub assembly now it makes everything so much easier. If I win, I wouldn't mind the chaos knight. Good luck to everyone
Amazing tutorial! I might be a bit biased though as emperors children were my first love when it comes for the Horus heresy. If I paint anymore though I will deffo be using your guide as you just make the miniature pop. In regards to the competition, both prizes are amazing but I would prefer the chaos knights box. Keep up the great work
Oh man watching your workflow has actually been so helpful! I love the purple shade and relaxed your video and scheme is. If I were to win, I think Chaos knights would be a fun project!
Thank you, really appreciate it. I’m a MASSIVE HeroQuest fan! I have two sets. One fully painted classic set and the other is my version 2, which I made using Zealot miniatures’ Litchmyre range. I have a couple of vids on painting the zealot minis you may like to check out 👍🏻
Great video. You're brush control is actually quite amazing. If I were to be chosen in the contest, I'd go for the King Brodd model. Thanks for what you do!
Love it. Makes me want to try to paint an EC mini, even though I dont like them haha. For the contest, it’s a tough call. I would be happy with either, but if I have to pick…. I think chaos knights!
I just discovered your channel through the instagram competition. I truly like this guide. Very clear and concise. And also a beautiful result. I look forward to watch more of your content. As for the competition, I would say Chaos knights for the win!
I've been following the progress on this on FB and honestly such an inspiration!!!! For your giveaway, I would love to win the chaos knights army set!!! Good luck everyone!
Awesome work as always! Thank you for you great tutorial... Always love you matte looking finish model.. Hope i can paint as good as you do one day! Greetings from Indonesia!
So clean, really refreshing to see some Heresy paintjobs that don't lean too heavily into the battle damage and grime. Not sure I'd be able to pull it off but pristine Chaos Knights could be super cool 😁
Thank you I figure you can always add damage and grime later if you want but all paint jobs should start with good base coats. Best of luck in the draw
Love your guys' videos. They give me something to strive for. I also think that chaos knight would be a fun thing to built using your techniques! Hope I win!
Thank you. I like to think my videos show painting doesn’t need to be complicated to get nice, achievable results. Ideally, I want people to watch and think “Well, I can do that.” Good luck in the draw
Wonderful video! Your videos are always well made and fantastic. I’ve always liked the look of 30k Emperors Children. I would like the Chaos Knight Army box
Congratulations on the 20k! I'd prefer the Chaos Knights. I've never painted a 40K mini before, but would love to try my hand at armor. I can't do freehand we but I can paint and decal!
Thanks for watching I was like you, I knew how I wanted my purple to be. The advantage of the method I used here, of combining two colours, is it lets you tweak the purple to exactly how YOU want it whilst still keeping it always a good looking purple. Hope you give it a try 👍
Okay, I'm in! I've never painted a titan before, but if I were to win I would not only fix that, but also allow the viewers to choose the colour scheme/s 😁
This looks great for the purple, it is a hard to get the right shade. For me I did a pot of xereus and added loads of genestealer, I ended up using most of the pot I think 😅
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides I will, I have been put off many legions because I can’t find the right colours in gws range and I’m trying to diversify between more brands now
Thank you. It is true metal fleck in true metallics are harder wearing on natural bristles but if you clean your brush thoroughly after each session I’ve not had a problem. I still get a couple of years use out of mine that way.
Thanks for the answer, since these beauties cost a lot i did'nt have the courage to use metallic with it. I may reconsider (i'm always cleaning everything after use). Gratz again for the following and a really nice video.
That chest gem detailing was impressive. I’m going to have to practice a feeeeew more times before I’ll get even close to that level. 😅 I would love the Chaos Knights from the sweepstakes! The corpse emperor is a lie!!!
Hey Brushstroke, will you working on any Nurgle any time soon? Something greatly disgusting maybe? And would like the Chaos Knight so I can drag through the pits of Nurgle!!!
Ooo, interesting question You know, I don’t think I have any nurgle 🤔 Would fancy painting something putrid and puss ridden for a change. Leave it with me 👍🏻 Good luck in draw
Hey! So I think it's a really good video. In the interests of actually providing you with a useful comment rather than just one to enter me for the prize draw, I'd say the following: - I think you may have correctly identified a bit of a niche. Some of the top-tier level painters have amazing videos but they're still pretty unattainable; this is very high quality but also replicable. I think that's valuable. I don't know if you ever watched RobPaintsModels (RIP), but his were similar, and very strong for it. - I also thought the pacing of the video was a real strength. If you think about what a lot of people do while they're watching, they're often painting or hobbying. Your video doesn't require 100% attention at all times, which lends itself well to this - it's a good background-y style. - In general terms, you sound good on video: fluid and, I'd say, soothing. In short, good job. I'll be keeping an eye out for your output. And if I were fortunate enough to win the box, I'm planning a heavily converted Chaos Knights army, so that box would fit very well 🙂
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. Your kind words are very much appreciated. 🙏🏻 sounds like I’m on the right track Best of the luck for the draw 🤞🏻
Wow! Never been a fan of the EC but this looks incredible!! Congrats on 20k my man!!! Easy to see why with content like this to watch, very well deserved 🔥🔥🔥 and as for the giveaway…a chaos knight army would be 🤌🏼🤌🏼
How do you not have more subscribers, these are the nicest paint jobs i've seen on RU-vid, easy to follow what you're doing also. When i start to paint my army i'll be following these video guides, very nicely done.
The rope/cords on military uniforms are called an Aiguillette (also spelled aiglet or aglet). Historically, they date back to the laces knights used to secure plates of armor together, and which were often also decorative, especially for knights of higher rank/wealth and increasingly so as armor became more ornamental and ceremonial than practical. Later they were adapted to close seams and obscure slashes or tears in uniforms for dress occasions, and in modern times are included in the dress uniforms in several militaries, especially for officers.
That purple mix is great, but i have no ECs 😅 Btw i like the advices on the brush sizes for the different parts of the miniature (loancloth). And.. Chaos Knights 😉
"I've spent a long time trying to find the perfect purple" man I felt this! 😂. Love this, very chill and it feels like an achievable tutorial even for me! Chaos Knights is definitely the way forward
Haha, yeah that was from the heart that statement for sure I lost count of the different tones I tried for this. I’m very happy with the one I went for in the end. Just what I was aiming for Good luck in draw
It's been great watching this come together in all the sub-assemblies over on IG, the clean look is very fitting for the Emperor's children. I really enjoyed watching how it was done!
I absolutely love your videos! I have learned so much to refine my own painting abilities. The way you constantly repeat and reinforce the basics as you are working through is wonderful. By far my favorite painting channel and I wish there were more videos and more often! I would love to see some zenos races, especially Necrons and Orks!! Hopefully we can see those sometime. Honestly though, I will watch anything and everything you do anyways.
Thank you 🙏🏻 It’s so great to hear you’re enjoying my videos. I would really love to be able to post more videos more often too, but unfortunately the pressures of the day job get in the way. Maybe one day I’ll be able to RU-vid as a living, but I’m a very long way off that 🤣 Will see what I can do about adding some xenos videos 👍🏻
I love how clean and sharp your painting style is, especially in this video, and congrats on 20k subscribers! and for the giveaway Chaos Knights would be a really cool set to have
Rich purple? Check.. Opulent gold? Check... Creamy white? Check... Effective painting method to unite everything into the perfect Emperor's Children scheme? Check... Nothing more to say.... Other than - I'd choose the Sons of Behemat King Brodd should I be fortunate enough to win
