How to paint over wallpaper, use the Zinsser 3in1 WallPaper Cover-Up.
a product that allows you to then emulsion paint over your wallpaper, saving you time and money not stripping it all off and re lining.

Have used Zinseer 123 on patterned paper. Then two coats durable Matt over the top, looks as good as when it was done two years ago.

that will work too, but the risk is the water based products can penetrate the papers and if not hng well, you may lift edges and bubbles will form, the bubbles may pull back, that will depend on the papint you put over the top as to whether you will notice them or not. This Zinsser being oil based reduces that risk, as it won't buuble/lift the paper like a wb will.

Great tips thanks. Including throwing away the roller. Hard enough washing brushes after oil based, I never have cleaned a roller after oil based but I imagine the cost in time and thinners is more than just buying a new roller.

Have had no issues using 3in 1 base coat by Dulux Its thick enough not to liven up the wallpaper and also has the benefit of stain block, hairline crack filler and primer I have used this product on countless occasions and it hasn't failed yet You can go over painted walls that are crackle glazed where a diy painter has gone over a wallpaper stripped wall and not cleaned the paste off probably. I have painted candle soot covered walls and ceilings and it hasn't failed Also if you are working on a period property and the client doesn't want the walls to be reskimed, after stripping off the existing wallpaper, give it the once over with the Mirka then clean the surface then apply a watered down base coat to seal everything ready for filling to commence

I used this on my own property. I had no problems with the wallpaper until I painted it, within a year it started to bubble and peel away. Underneath lots of mold!?

Hi Phil, Great video, thanks ! I need your advice. Do you have video: How to sanding door frames and difficult areas of woodwork, which have beеn painted with gloss badly. What kind of machine you are using and sandpaper ? Thanks

I've a video on sanding a door. It's a case of getting flexible sanding paper (p120) roll it to shape it for mouldings.

Nice one Phil, I didnt realise this gear was oil based, So are the walls painted lining, or a finish paper, lovely job if its a finish paper, cant see a joint. Do you check for any 'stickbacks' or possibly raised seams and deal with them first?

Yes, exactly it was a finish paper, joints were good, being oil based product it won't bubble the paper up like a water based one would. Joints didn't lift.

How does this product perform on raised or embossed wallpapers that have a 2mm difference across the pattern? Does it smooth it all over?

I cant afford 2 lots of paint cant i just use standard matte white on a wallpapered wall???

Of course you can, but you can find the water based emulsion will effect a wallpaper different to this 'oil' based primer. Any loose paper may lift and the bubbles may raise faster. Fingers crossed they dry back. This product is ideal if going over wallpaper surfaces that wouldn't take a 'normal' water based emulsion product.

I've not come across that one. What paper do you have? If the paste is too thick, you can always thin it down to a more workable consistency

if it;';s the fibre lining, you'll find it easier if the paste is a bit thinner to apply, or you'll struggle to get it on as it'll dry off a bit too quick for you to get the lining on. if its eaier to apply you'll soo get the paper up. @@dermotgillespie5138

this is touch dry in 2-4hrs.. recoat 4hrs. Oil Uc isn't dry as quick as that.

In what way? It's a paint, not a filler. If you've got gaps in paper joints, that's down to not butt jointing and poor hanging of paper. If that's the case. You need to fill them if they can be to improve.
